I don't get it, correct me if I'm wrong, but even if he had a gun, if he wasn't pointing it at the police, they can't shoot him right?

Sounds like a lawsuit to me.

Preemptive strike, bro. All the police need to do is say "i feared for my life" and he is scot free if the person had a gun lol.

EDIT: I mean, hell, you got cops shooting unarmed people because they "feared for their life" and they get off free. Having a weapon almost guarantees that they won't be convicted of wrongdoing.

Maybe he had a dehumanizing stare on as the garage door opened.

lol, convicted... They don't even get indicted.

And yet my parents are convinced the problem of systemic racism within our police force is a made-up problem.

The sad thing is that this kind of shit isn't a surprise anymore.

The cop should be treated like anyone who opens fire and hits/potentially kills someone in their home. But he'll probably get paid vacation.

I was pulled over today and treated like I was in a boot camp, he even asked where I was coming from and where I worked to which I replied "I don't belive I have disclose that information". I feared for my life and I am white.

.

I never understood this. It's not like black people ever actually get any benefits from this country from broadcasting actual tragedies that happen within their communities. So the idea that it's a "made up problem" is so inane. What did we make it up for? Cause we're bored? We want sympathy? We're trolling? Or we're crazy? People that say this just need to be asked point blank why anyone would make that up and whether they think this vast lying conspiracy has actually benefited the minority population in anyway.

It's a defense mechanism so they can ignore any privilege they might have had and the disadvantages others have experienced. It allows them to believe that minority problems are caused by minority communities so they can ignore those problems.

It's not done out of malice, it's just ignorance and a byproduct of their upbringing. Every time politics come up, the conversation gets a bit grayed (but in a friendly way). However, if I bring up the obvious disparity in how black people are treated by the police as opposed to whites in general, instant real anger (family full of cops, most of them good).

People don't like to have their worldviews attacked.

well, maybe dont carry a gun when your approaching cops...

How was he supposed to know they were cops? They approached without any lights on to sneak up on the suspect. He thought it was the carjacker returning.

It sounds like they probably didn't even announce themselves before they shot him.

well, ok. havent thought off this.

Somehow the scene played out in bright daylight in my head with the cops arriving with sirenes and stuff..

Really the only way to not be accidentally shot while black is to have a young, reasonably attractive white woman close enough to you that they'll worry about hitting her. The instinctual feeling of not wanting to shoot a white woman is far stronger than the one for shooting a black person, and those moments could make all the difference. If you don't have one nearby, a cardboard cutout of one could probably suffice
WW shields sounds like a good idea.

So cops got called about a robbery and arrive at the house and see someone with a gun and shoot him. Without knowing more about what happened as the cops arrived idk what to feel about that. Could be negligence, could be just a tragic mistake. Fucking ridiculous how it's instantly racism horse shit.

You may be on to something. White Person Safety Escorts. $2k per month gets you a white person with you at all times, home and travel. Be safe from police and most occurences of racial profiling. Just need to start that LLC up.

Damn, you both could be right. If I was white, I'd make a killing (no pun intended) with this.

Or they got a call about a robber and saw a person with a gun and thought robber. But whatever, lol. Not gonna waste any more of my time. Good night.

Why exactly do you want the racial aspect to be separate from this? There are multiple studies about racial bias and how it relates to police procedure along with multiple actual examples of black people empty handed, carrying phones, fake guns, and legal guns and encountering police brutality from harmful to outright fatal when the same response isn't mete out to white people who are actually armed at the same frequency.

After seeing a lot of reports on black people being shot when they call for police help at their own home, I have decided to just lie down on the ground before they ever show up if I end up calling them. I will get everyone in my house to do the same. Then I hope to do it in a area where my cameras can see everything. It's a warzone out there, calling the cops is a life or death situation.

I could still get shot, so I don't know. I have a old bullet proof vest in my garage, I don't even know if I could get in trouble for wearing that for protection, though iirc the Bundy dudes or whoever it was that had the face off with the FBI on a bridge with their guns pointed at them seemed to have army gear on. Maybe it's ok for defense, but I'd probably get shot in the head anyway. Those are the beaks.

Damn, you both could be right. If I was white, I'd make a killing (no pun intended) with this.

Actually you'd be even more likely to get pulled over or confronted by curious people/cops. "Are you ok Miss?"

They saw a brown man and assumed must be the robber *boom*

But yes racism horseshit...

That's got to be a record for quickest flouncing

Whatever happened to Freeze and Drop your weapon?
They have to think you're human before speaking to you. We see every day, it's shoot on sight for brown people.

They can always deal with white people, as they are seen as human. Even multiple instances around nation with them aiming guns at police.

Yet, they always fear anything brown. Armed or not.

Two things:

1. I immediately assumed the victim who was shot was black (I was right).

2. I immediately assumed the officer involved will get off scott-free (I will be right).

fuck everything

And this is the next thing that pisses me the fuck off.

Holy shit, what the hell is wrong with these Police officers, how can one be so paranoid and scared, that he just shoots a man without warning. Seriously, get your shit together over there.

It's usually not good to call the cops for anything, unless your car got hit. You'll either wind up dead or in a legal mess

Guns are legal in the United States. Open Carry is generally legal in the United States.

So perhaps cops shouldn't just be shooting anyone they see with a gun? In fact, shouldn't shooting someone be the absolute last resort for the police instead of their opening move?

Racism isn't an accident or a mistake.

And yet they only seem to show up when the victim is black.
I have yet to see one of you wait and see folks pull this in a thread where a cop is assaulted, shot, or killed.

That thread where the corrupt cop killed himself and tried to make it look like so black people did it, is a perfect example.

Can you link me this thread? I'd like to see it because it sounds interesting, and I can't find it.

Also, there're barely any threads posted here where that happens. When there are they normally die out pretty quick. I would absolutely say that if evidence was needed to come to a conclusion. I hope you realize that when you mock "Let's wait for facts" like it's a dumb thing to do when evidence is lacking, you're saying "Obviously, you should knee jerk react, the fuck is wrong with you?"

I hope they aren't racist. They just want to sustain comfort and self-deception. The facts have been out there for a long time. since the 1830s the facts were out there in regards to slavery and do you think it changed the USA? nah. Slavery never ended, it just changed form.

But keep waiting for the facts, maybe from the 1830s to today hasn't been enough for them to get to you.

I mean just look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIghbrn5yfI

Stop, you're not showing me anything new. I'm saying, "In a situation where it's unclear what happened, you shouldn't assume what happened" then you're replying "History about black people oppression, stfu." And while, yeah, that's extremely important, It's not even a counter point. It's just unrelated information that I already am aware of. We can talk about that in another context with no problem.

Let's not forget what they did when white women got uppity ideas about maybe choosing to be with a black man not all that long ago. White women are valuable property, what happens to the black man might not be any better and definitely intentional.
