Just picked this up a few days ago and having a blast. Just got up to the mission where you encounter
those invisible mechs
and died against the boss at the end of the level.

Swapping Assault Boost with Boost on the controller has been a godsend for me. No more accidental take offs!

its my big reason why I fucking LOVE their games and why Armored Core VI is my GOTY even tho it’s not “mainstream“ enough for your average joe.

I would still give System Shock Remake the edge but both are by far the best experiences this year.

It's kinda like with music for me in that regard. The further away from the mainstream, the better it gets.

Can't wait for System Shock to be released on consoles. That's a strong recommendation.

How beginner-friendly is this game? I am ready to be disappointed ;)
There’s specific combinations of weapons you can get quite early that melt basically everything. To me, it was much easier than the Souls/Sekiro games. Not even on the same planet.

Melee works wonders.

I fgured you can replay the ALT mission in ng+. For the battle tags. But I didnt get any new conversation afterwards. I guess there arent any?

If you are talking about decisions you make, those choices only going to take effect if you do it in main mission not when replay it, those are only for ranks.

I'm one mission away from finishing Chapter 4 of my first playthrough and I just feel the need to share my thoughts so far. I fully expect many people in this thread to disagree with me and thats all right.

When AC6 was announced, my impression was "Good for AC fans because they've been lacking for a long time, but I'm going to pass, since I just don't care for mech games." Eventually, after enough of gameplay trailers and marketing hype, I went against my initial gut reaction and pre-ordered the game.

When I started the game up, I went in knowing AC6 is not a Souls-like, so I've not been holding it to any Souls-like standards. That being said, I'm struggling to finish this game, not necessarily because of the challenge, but because of boredom and lack of interest. The following paragraphs are some of thoughts on the game and would love to hear from people who have other perspectives. My hope is that someone can help shed light on what makes this game special, because I'm not seeing it and I'm about to just put it down for good

I struggle to understand the appeal of mech games. Every mission feels the same. Fly through similar looking environments, mowing down a bunch of nameless, faceless goons that are of no challenge or consequence, until you get to another AC or a boss, wherein you engage in some minor strategy. That being said, skill seems to play no part in the opponent ACs and bosses. Rather, what matters is your load out and I'm not having any fun tinkering with parts between and during missions. The non-AC bosses generally look cool, but aren't all that complicated or challenging. The AC bosses seem like you're fighting yourself, which suggests some amount of skill and strategy needs to be used, but so much of that skill and strategy gets thrown out as the boss ACs have completely unfair amounts of health.

I had hoped that Fromsoft magic would get me through my initial aversion to mech games, but it's not happening. When I first tried and bounced off of the challenge of Dark Souls, I still found the lore and the world so incredibly interesting and compelling that I was willing to try it two more tries before the gameplay clicked with me. The same continued for DS2 and 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. I'm not finding that here. Every mission involves codecs from faceless people I know nothing about who are mindlessly fighting over some clearly dangerous power source.

The fact that you play all sides and take jobs from every faction makes me even less interested in their struggles. Not one of these groups ever holds a grudge against me for fucking them over in prior missions? They don't ever care that I've killed their people or destroyed their weapons, mecha or bases? They just keep giving me jobs and therefore money that I can use to buy more equipment to fuck them over in a couple days when I'm working for one of the other factions? How does any of this make sense? The lack of consequences for playing all sides just feels weird.

The settings and environments for nearly all of the missions are just blending together. There's a few stand outs here and there, such as scaling the gigantic walker to take it down, but those are by far the exception rather than the rule. There's almost no missions with any unique looks or color palettes or architecture or enemy design. Everything looks the same to me. For every other Fromsoft game, you tell me the name of a level and I guarantee you I can recall some aspects of it's design, whether it's a skybox, a particular enemy encounter, interesting architecture, a clever secret, a fun boss, or something else of the like. I can't do that with AC6. Everything is gray and bland, outside of a few non-AC bosses.

What am I missing in this game? I want to like it, but I'm struggling.

Why? If you don't like it then drop it for something else. I'll give you credit for being willing to try something you don't usually play, but it sounds like it's just not your thing in general.
If it doesnt click by Chapter 4, then there's no point in forcing yourself to go through it tbh.
I don't exactly know why. I've been in love with everything Fromsoft has done since Dark Souls 1, so I guess I'm concerned about missing out something that I might actually like due to me either overlooking some special aspects of the game or not playing it correctly.

Well, the best way to know whether or not you'll like something is to see for yourself. At least now you know for certain after forming your own opinion, so the FOMO won't be as powerful for the next one.

You're not missing anything you tried and it's clearly not for you. I read your thoughts and everything you said is right.

What I like about it is this is exactly what I wanted. A straight forward heavy game play type game. I'm in and out of missions and the focus is just on fighting for the most part. I just got done with a story heavy game and I wanted something different from that. Normally I'll go to an indie game for this type of stuff but AC6 happened to get the job done. On top of that I just really enjoy the mech game play it's fun to me.

I will say the stuff about the missions and working for multiple people is because you're a merc. This is what they expect of you that you will take jobs and have no real allegiance. These are corporations they understand you're just doing your job. On top of that they try and send you on suicide missions a lot of times.

Hmm. Question.

Is there a ninth log

Got 8 but it's still pending.

MdRdOe8.jpg

The 8 Combat Logs have nothing to do with the Battle Log. You get the Battle Log from killing Little Ziyi at the bottom of the pit.

Check the Battle Log symbol at the left to her health gauge to see if it's still available.

Snail in the balteus AC was a challenge, phew. Not the toughest encounter but close. tougher than ayre in the first playthrough. Great ending going up against handler walter, and the coral based AC unlocked rocks.

Beat the Coral convergence boss from ch4 yesterday and this might have been one of the toughest and best from software boss ever

Crazy 2nd phase, I thought I would never make it.

well done :messenger_bicep: yeah its tough until you learn the pattern and then its not so tough. struggled for a couple of evenings first time, beat her third try on ng+. the ice worm gun is great for this fight. knocks big chunks off her health bar. helps a lot to have a booster with a high quick boost thrust, to dodge her attacks. but its a great feeling beating the encounter. reminded me of malenia obviously, but not quite as tough.

I went in with the laser lance + pile bunker, Zimmerman shotgun + needle

Basically melee and close range so it was a game of patience since that AC zooms around so much, and sometimes I time bad my switch from lance to pile bunker.

Fun thing is that this build, soon as the fight start you can do the laser lance directly on boss for a sure 60% stagger, shotgun for nearly 75% and if lucky and placed in front of you, can do a needle for stagger, then switch pile bunker for massive damage in first few seconds.

Can also go completely wrong

Best is to get to 2nd phase without using health regen.

2nd phase with this build is tough, very tough to get close to it.

Dunno why I insisted on this build as a long distance build seems smarter for this fight, but I managed It anyway.

I used dual zimmermans with the abbot fcs, and a songbird in addition to the ice worm needle. I think one double shot with the zimmermans staggers her, more or less. I tried to use the pilebunker but I suck at it, I dont know why. Have to work on the melee weapons in the next game, esp the pilebunker seems great.

Just finished a fresh playthrough on the PS5. Goddamn did they nerf the bosses... the new weapons are dope though. PVP is where it's at now. SP is just too easy (aside from the S-Ranks, which are just absurd).
Yeah its a bummer, I really hope they just make an easy mode for these people because im sick of the nerfs. Pre nerf balteus is one of my favorite video game bosses.

Pre nerf Balteus was a boss where even though it was really hard, it felt deserved to beat him, more importantly it taught you that not any AC you built would be good enough, sometimes going away and trying new designs will help. It may have took me 50 plus attempts but it also taught me a lot about the Combat

As for me, I took down the Ice Worm in about 5 attempts, that was a really cool spectacle and fight with a really good payoff, I believe it used to be harder but aiming that Shot to take its shields down and then the Rail gun hitting it was so good, it kinda makes me want a co op mode doing those kinda of bosses as teams

It reminds me that the best part of this game is the combat, the story, well its there I guess as some reason to fight things but I love the Arena mode more, I'd play a full game of just that tbh

For me it taught me how to use Assault Boost properly since that was the best way to dodge the homing missiles, it made me understand just how critical assault boost was.

Ive played through twice, before and after the nerf. And never used assault armor. The game isnt that tough to begin with, its not Sekiro. Making a point out of changes to one encounter sounds like gatekeeping the experience from other people. Ive usually found some way to make most boss encounters pretty easy, but thats from starting with something that doesnt work and spending some time in the garage finding the right build.

Toughest encounters for me have been getting some of the battle logs, and a mission like intercepting the redguns, and learning how to deal with those annoying HC models.

The way its tuned now most people should be able to get through the main story, and thats a good thing.

I don't think gatekeeping is inherently bad. I also don't see why more people being able to finish the story is a good thing.

Christ the end of Chapter 4 is rough, I kept running out of ammo in that one boss fight with the Redguns
