I found this interesting because as housing affordability drops, I prepare for potential homelessness. I wonder about the importance of videogames at these times.

I don't mean to pry or judge so feel free to tell me to fuck off, but is this hyperbole or an actual situation you find yourself in?

Lots of people fall on hard times, myself included, but there are lots of resources you can engage with (based on your location) that can help support you through situations like this.

Hell, in the US I don't think you can get evicted any more.

I would think 3DS is the best homeless gaming system. Clamshell design, backlight, superior battery life, relatively affordable. Cloud gaming is also a potential avenue here. Just use a phone and a controller with a cheap plastic clip, but you'll need to be next to some solid wi-fi.

Hope you figure out a better option. I hear Planet Fitness is a must for $10 a month you get access to showers. And they might still do free pizza sometimes, but I don't know if that was phased out.

As for games increasing awareness / empathy of the plight of homelessness, definitely. Detroit touched on it briefly, but there's so much more to be done. Most people don't even hardly acknowledge they're human which is crazy when you see that objectively, a lot of normal people literally can't afford housing right now. A great indie game with actually good writing like something like Norco would be awesome. Citizen Sleeper kind of covers this as well but in a future sci-fi setting. But you really genuinely feel a tiny taste of that.
