lol Vincent is going to have a stern talking to.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Dev team must be taking fucking crazy pills.

"Lets not make our game look as good as possible because people might have internet forum console war arguments!"

Is there moneyhats going on here? Thats the only rational explanation. What the fuck would you gain otherwise? I guess maybe other than "we get to be lazy and not have to put in optimisation work"?

So instead of pushing the X1 as hard as possible to meet the PS4, they're intentionally gimping the PS4 version?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Hey Ubi, if one part of your game is poor, you don't bring down everything else to match its poorness. You wouldn't do that when designing your game, so why would you do that when optimizing performance?

EDIT: I wonder how people would react if they didn't say it's 900p across the two platforms because of "parity" reasons.
Black Flag already demonstrated Ubi's ability to obtain 1080p results on PS4. I'd assume people would judge Unity accordingly.

Saying out loud that you intentionally gimped one platform, in order to avoid online debates? Hoo boy that's not a good look for the game or Xbone.

I jumped ship to the PS4 this gen, but I still can't believe Microsoft would do something like that. There has to be more to the story than that.

why exactly would you think there's more to it? sometimes the most simple, obvious explanation is the explanation...

I don't think anyone in this thread has said "because it's 900p, no buy" simply because of the resolution. It's the fact that they are intentionally gimping one version because of the other side paying them money is what people are upset about.
Wait, was it confirmed this is because of MS paying Ubisoft? Or are you just jumping to conclusions?

Well im and XB1 own and even i think this sucks....how the hell did 900p even become a thing, that said we are only taking 180 lines of resolution here guys.

I refuse to lets numbers cloud my mind anymore it just ruins gaming, i just enjoy the games now, lifes too short.

180 lines of resolution...resulting in about a 50% increase in the amount of pixels.

This :(. Can't believe there's some people who actually avoid buying some games now just because it doesn't run at certain resolution or it has a few frame drops. I remember there was some people cancelling their MK8 pre-orders just because of the frame stuttering thing in the game...

You guys are entirely missing the point.

I don't really care about parity but why on earth would anyone with a lick of sense at Ubi say this? Why bring the unwanted attention? Not that this is going to have any meaningful effect on sales anyway but you know, seems rather pointless.

:lol I'm dying.

Sorry, my initial post made it clear I thought it was speculation, but I should extend that to all posts, especially in a fast moving thread.

MS is marketing the game, however, instead of Sony (who has marketed every other game).

Is Ubisoft the only publisher consistently pushing out 30FPS and sub1080p even on PS4? Best I'm aware only exceptions are launch games or 60 FPS

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff,"

Wow fuck you

Back when it was ps2 and Xbox 1 games would come out on the og Xbox pretty much identical to their ps2 counterparts. Seems like similar things are going to happen this gen.

Given Xbox's market share back then it wouldn't make much sense to spend a lot of money making the games look better there. Simple business.

But now, given the current standing, that justification doesn't make sense.

I guess they want to have people talk about their games, even if it's bad press. Oh well, it's not like there aren't other games available, so I will wait to buy this for 1/4th the price or so, to give it parity with all the other half-assed games out there.

It's not the fact it's crippled, it's the fact he's so brazen about it. It's like giving you a slap in the face and thinking you can't retaliate. Pfft, I dove back in with Black Flag and my excuse was lack of games following ACIII but can't be arsed with that now, plenty of other things to play so I won't be left hanging this time.

werent people upset about Ubi not being clear and direct on other issues? Now they have clarity and directness and people are upset about it?

Everyone of Ubisoft game is much better on PC even on similarly spec'ed PCs, so whats Your point exactly?
My point is that they always have issues even on higher spec'ed pcs. I'm not the only person who experience these issues, that's why I prefer consoles for Ubisoft games to not run into this issues. You crazy if you will get the same performance of consoles from a Ubisoft game, with the same specs of the consoles, there games are poorly optmized on pc and always have issues.

In general I'm not too concerned about 'parity' if it means that the quality of one of the platforms has been raised to be closer to the quality bar set by the other (e.g. Diablo III, Destiny). But this is the opposite; they're intentionally lowering the PS4 version to the lower quality of the Xbone version. This just seems stupid, like they've just made the PS4 version 900p just to spite PS4 owners. I can't imagine they'd do this unless MS had put pressure on them to not let the Xbone be disadvantaged.

I'm torn because Unity is one of the few games I've been looking forward to this year, but I'd rather not support these business practices.

I think this is the actual reason why, not anything to do with moneyhats or a clause from MS. Better versions of games are being lopsided with sales. Companies want to sell through to the install base for each platform, not the platform that has the best version. There are people on the other side of the fence that won't buy it because it is not the best version and they only have one console, it's possible they want to avoid that, as above.

This is some great spinning, even for you lol.

Really powerful GPUs? What's Ubi on about? It's the GPUs that are holding the consoles back.

The is the most incorrect thing I've seen all day.

Platform parity is bullshit. I really have the aliasing the comes from upscaled 900p. Ubisoft are a bunch of pussies. Patch that shit day 1 please.

If someone was going to buy this game and decided not to because of this article, you are no true gamer!!!

Never have I seen so many whinny brats!!

That's all well and good on a personal level, but 1080p should have been the absolute uncompromised standard this generation to match 1:1 pixel distribution with 1080p TVs that have been sold since 2004. And while I admire that in your mind its just "numbers" there is a real, tangible difference between the two that comes down to more than just "180 lines".

Yup, which is fine by me but if a game interested people in the past and now that it is 900p for whatever the reason may be, I don't see why anyone should be that much pissed about and suddenly cancel their orders. But hey, people can do what they want with their money. We'll be getting alot of this shit during the gen, I guarantee it. Happened in many gaming generations. If it ain't between the consoles then the PC in every case, reigns supreme.

It is more voting with your wallet against these kinds of actions rather than a reflection on how good the game may or may not be. For me I was interested in this because I enjoyed Black Flag but now I will not buy this game because I do not want to support these kinds of decisions.

Some games will obviously have parity because they are not taxing the hardware that much and that is fine but if they are trying to push the envelope then they should be aiming for the best visual experience each platform can provide. When they decide not to do this on purpose that is when I have a problem.

Xbox games always looked better. PS2 also had 10x the sales of the Xbox, so it made sense to target that. That's not the situation here.

People discussing the actual resolution are completely missing the point. If you think 900p is fine or not is irrelevant.

Good guy Ubisoft, restoring justice one game at a time. You knew your customers demanded parity and you delivered it..

I applaud you, I shall buy three copies to show my appreciation for your decision to not alienate the most significant and dedicate portion of your fanbase.

No longer will we have to suffer ridicule, no longer will we be forced to put up with snide and often sarcastic remarks. Thank you, Ubisoft.

Thank you.

guys guys i got it. clearly he leaked this information into the media so that backlash would occur and the pr disaster would stop the parity

What if this is just a deliberate slip-up from one of the producers to get outrage and force higher management to "allow" one of the consoles to be "better" than the other?

Because this decision isn't coming from the 1000 actually working on the game...

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com

Translation: When Microsoft was balls deep inside my wallet, we decided this was best to avoid the debates.

Yeah they could probably hit 1080p on PS4. The article, however, states that CPU was the problem because of all the NPC's on the screen at one time. Ubisoft could have used the cloud on Xbox One to handle some of these NPC's right? So they compromised and met in the middle. Instead of allowing PS4 to have better resolution but few characters on the screen and Xbox One with lower resolution but more onscreen characters. Both systems have their limits, albeit different, so they compromised. It makes sense to me!

Reddit is full of magic sometimes

Man, I'm so disappointed in them and those dev comments. Fucking disgraceful that they don't want to even try to take a stab at much stronger PS4 GPU.

They don't want debates? More like they don't want to have integrity.
