Yes it requires Ubisoft Connect.
I see no reason to buy it when you can rent it for a month and finish it via ubisoft plus for fraction of the price. Then if you really need to own it, you can just get it on sale.
I didn't even know Ubisoft had a gamepass like subscription. Shows how long it's been since I've played a Ubisoft game.

Is there an EXP boost DLC in this one like the last few?
Probably, but I can only see it being "needed" in origins, because that game has some atrocious level gating if you're just trying to go through the story and ignoring the repetitive side-missions.
It wasn't needed for odyssey since you could swap your loadouts for specific types of damage, a bit annoying to keep swapping, but no grind required.
Absolutely superfluous in valhalla since that game had guaranteed assassinations regardless of level, so no level gating, and you couldn't really grind anyway since there were no side quests.

I'm assuming shadows also has guaranteed assassinations, so any xp boosts would be worthless as well.

Game looks pretty decent and reviews are in line with what I thought.

The main thing is that it just looks like assassin’s creed again, as I said before as someone who is STILL playing through origins cause it’s so unbelievably large a map (Makes Elden ring look miniature) i just can’t see myself getting to this anytime soon.

My gaming time is so limited these days that a game like rebirth will genuinely take me 6 months to finish and I need to pick and choose more wisely these days.

I enjoyed far cry 6 a few years back so I can deal with some “ubislop”. I loved the first division as well so they definitely made great games. I think they just expanded far too quickly and started pumping out yearly copies of the same thing. If they can show some restraint and come up with a genuinely interesting new IP it would be cool to see.

People loved Origins and that's the sloggiest game that ever slogged.
Origins isn't bad. Doesn't wear out its welcome, but that probably comes down to whether or not you really like the gameplay. I did and really enjoyed it. But despite really enjoying Odyssey, it absolutely became a slog towards the end, especially with the DLC. And I never even attempted Valhalla because I was so burned out by the formula.

My girlfriend is sitting next to me, and after reading some comments, she was wondering why people are so disappointed. An 83 out of 100 is a great score. We’ve developed such a weird mindset in this industry, if a game doesn’t score 90+, it’s automatically considered not worth it, which honestly doesn’t make sense. What I dont like from some of the footage I have seen is the enemies dont react sometimes when being hit with weapons, its a bit off putting

Anyway, I think these reviews are solid enough, and I’m definitely going to play it

Papi, the problem isn't that gamers nowadays consider a 80+ metacritic game "mid" and that they're jaded, the problem is that these type of games score EXACTLY how you think they're gonna score by the usual suspects, and to put it more bluntly, these type of scores are always inflated to kingdom come for the usual - and always petty - e-politics®

See also : the latest DA vanguard with its "return to form®", the bland, boring and ugly Avowed (with its looney dev drama), Starfield, Concord (All the previews were very positive) and all the other slop that for one reason or another gathered lots of attention/drama.

Also Pt2 : just take a look at this thread, you think people are actually interested in the scores ? Most are just here as to "stick it to the man/chuds" and just disagree with others for the sake of disagreeing, it's a petty sight to behold but...I've learned that this is how it usually goes with these kind of things/topics.

It is what it is.

I spent about 80 hours in it and I honestly remember nothing about the experience.

I take it you skipped Odyssey? :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Indeed.

AC Origins and later are all slogs, but the gameplay is fun and so that carries the games for me.

It wasn't bad or anything but I'm pretty sure it turned my central processing unit into pancake batter.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Mirage wasn't a linear game, it was just more condensed compared to Valhalla, Odyssey, Origins etc. More closer to AC 1, 2, Brotherhood.
Yeah all that Mirage did was make all the short coming of the new AC games stand out like a sore thumb.
They marketed it as an OG AC but it was more of an attempt to make one with the new style but everything fall short.
The comparisons people did with Unity was jarring.

Yeah, a game like Unity is what I wanted with Mirage. What I got, I wouldn't even call Assassin's Creed. Baghdad Simulator, maybe.

I mean, that's on you, homes. Maybe pay attention to games that you spend 80 hours playing? Dunno what to tell you. It's a video game after all. Most of them are fairly forgettable experiences as an adult.

Do you remember when we would question the authenticity Ubisoft games being real when they showed them, and while they were bullshot trailers they did get close.
That doesn't happen anymore.. just copy and paste for over a decade now.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

To me, Valhalla felt much slower than something that was incredibly arcade-y like Odyssey, Valhalla is my least favorite of the RPG-Creed games so far.

Meanwhile, Odyssey is probably one of my most played games of all time. Really loved it.

You know something is seriously off when the highlight of the game turns out to be reading the codex.

Odyssey is the only other one I heard have positive buzz since Black Flag IRL. Sure it's subjective, as is everything, but that always stood out to me.

You are an hour and a half over my Origins playtime.

I'm still a fan of AC, but I can't disagree with you. Not a lot of original thinking going into the franchise for quite some time. They put more into caricatures of historical figures than most anything else and that's probably the part I wish they would leave out the most.

I like Odyssey the best in that era of AC as well. Origins is a close second though.

I think I noped out of the game before getting to that "highlight". I've platinumed every AC since Syndicate, but Mirage just did not click with me at all.
