Ergh! Why ubisoft persist in torturing us with these missions. Black flag went to town with them too..

You don't instant fail if you get out of range anymore. You just lose their exact location and have to find them again.

Assassination missions are also more freeform. You have a big area and are told to kill a target. Of course if you want the full synchronization bonus you have to do it a specific way so the freedom is a little pointless.

Are the assassination missions integrated into the main storyline and are they any good? It's one of my biggest peeves of the series (from 3 Brotherhood onwards) that there are a distinct lack of focus on the assassination missions.
 
How is it? I honestly got intrigued by the setting and charaters and their possible interactions.

I'm only sequence 1, memory 3. I have no idea at the moment. As much slack as I give AC3, it was pretty amazing 2 hours in. Unity hasn't been as engrossing in the same time span, but I'm hopeful it will get better. Not much as far as present day story: It's nearly non existent at this point, just the usual freedom fighter, "Abstergo = bad" narrative (which is there for a second, and poof, gone).
 
I popped it down to 720p and get 60fps. This game is seriously fun. The animations and missions are fantastic. The changing missions are very very fun. This is seriously the most fun AssCreed I've played yet. It really reminds me of what I was hoping the original AssCreed was gonna be when I first saw it previewed.

I left all settings maxed except shadows and TXAA and lowered the resolution to 720p and it's pretty much 60fps 98% of the time. Lowering the res might seem like blasphemy to some, but it is the right move for this game at least in its current state. i74770k@3.8Ghz/GTX 780/8gb/Win7. Seriously super fun. Going back in. Waiting for Mickeyknox to get it going to play the coop.
Between the LOD pop-in on NPCs and the lowered resolution, I'm really starting to wonder if the game is hitting memory limitations more than anything. If it was GPU starved then lowering shadows on consoles would have most likely made a huge difference, but they didn't. If it was the CPU usage causing all of the issues then you'd think they would have cut back on the crowds to help, but they didn't. Instead they went with a severe cut back on NPC LOD. That just seems like it would be the fastest and easiest way to free up memory if they didn't get the game as memory optimized for launch as they were hoping. It could also explain why both console versions are running at the same resolution, since they have a similar amount of available RAM. I don't really know enough about this kind of stuff though, so who knows? Just my theory.

there are 2 within the first 4 sequences, out of 12 sequences total. They seem to be a significant part, they give you wide spaces to explore.

Might right up a mini review before this game hits. Like a minute before the embargo breaks.

Sounds like a good improvement. I'll be picking it up this weekend I think, warts and all.

Any NeoGaf clubs on PC? The stuff the club system's offering seems pretty cool, and I get the feeling that I'm going to be playing a lot of co-op.

Just 2 in the first 4 sequences. That's as far as I've played. Sorry to confuse. There's only ten missions within the first 4 sequences, and quite a few of them short. The assassination missions are probably the meatiest ones. Don't be too disappointed.

I wonder if Rogue will score better than Unity

According to IGN, outlets didn't even get Rogue so we'll probably be waiting on those.
 
Why are their complaints about release date embargoes when pretty much the majority of games released so far have had them?

Embargoes often come with conditions e.g. don't spoil certain aspects of the story or talk about anything past World 8. Sterling may object to conditions that came with this game's embargo that would affect his ability to give a fair and informative review.

Because it's very easy to ignore logic while hating on a title that you hope will be bad. Especially when the specific title also follows the trend of embargoes from the same company. >.>
 
Wow, sounds like reviewers are going to tear this game apart.
I Thought that outside of the technical issues it is a very good AC according to impressions around here, why they would tear it apart than?
Especially when critics usually care less about technical issues than people around here on GAF.

I think it's gonna review great.
 
For the love of god people Every AC game had Day 1 aka Release Day embargo for reviews as far as i know. Why is this suddenly a problem?
 
This shit is making me nervous. I'm suppose to go be heading out soon to pick up my preorder.. No reviews yet? How the fuck is it 11 AM Eastern time and there are no reviews yet?
 
Look, I'm pretty sure the actual game is good or better. It's the ridiculous technical issues and the stupid buy-in "Complete" Edition stuff that's going to lower the scores.

Because they never held them off until noon.

I didn't know about it and expected to see the reviews when I woke up just like every other AC game that released.

But often the release date embargo ends at midnight, not noon. Means that theoretically, a person can wake up, look at the reviews, and then pick up the game first thing in the morning.

This has the embargo end hours after people can walk into stores and buy a copy.

Embargoing critical reviews to just after the release of the game keeps consumers in the dark and creates a mess for people reviewing the game.
