Assetto Corsa -- New racing sim from the developer of netKar Pro

The whole problem with Steamworks, you need to be on Steam for that to work. Correct? So unless Valve gave them the greenlight, and they're just holding the info till a predetermined point, I don't think that's a commitment you can make without assurances from Valve. I'm hoping this is what happened, but we'll see.

That seemed like a slam dunk to me, but to be honest, I don't really know. I haven't paid attention to Greenlight at all recently since people seem to hate it, and Valve themselves feel it's broken.

We know they're aiming to be included in somebody's "distribution channel", and there are only half a handful of those that would require shaping of their game. Steam being one, consoles being the other.

Well it's certainly never been announced as being Greenlit (I rage every month when it misses the list).

But then again, it seems like developers know before hand. I think. I've gotten that impression on numerous times. That they've been tipped off and can start Steamworks integration. But I can't be certain. It's what I hang my hope on. I don't get why they have to keep things secret, though, if this is the case. Seems an odd policy by Valve.

Yeah, I kind of get that feeling too that you'll be rubber stamped if you meet X Y and Z requirements. I think Valve found out very quickly that they can't possibly oversee every applicant.

599xx vs Zonda R at a drag strip?

Can't wait :)

Good things come to those who wait! Kunos is a tiny development team so we all have to be patient.

More good news: ASSETTO CORSA – Autodromo di Vallelunga officially revealed

KUNOS Simulazioni is glad to announce that the italian racing circuit “Piero Taruffi” of Vallelunga will be officially included in the upcoming PC racing game Assetto Corsa.

Vallelunga is not just one of the italian tracks included in the upcoming PC game Assetto Corsa: it is also the Kunos Simulazioni's HQ. Since 2009, the software house has been located inside the track with the aim to “live” and breath the world of motorsport on a daily basis. Having a research & development studio in a racing track homologated for international races and Formula 1 tests, represents an excellent opportunity by a logistic andcommercial point of view. It has allowed the development team of Assetto Corsa to improve its modeling techniques of 3D environments, in order to optimize the data collection on those tracks where timeline and weather conditions are not ideal. Since
2009, the staff of the Autodromo of Vallelunga proved to be a valuable partner, and also thanks to its logistical cooperation, today Kunos Simulations owns the ideal assets to bring on an ambitious production like Assetto Corsa, that is used by the CSAI (Italian federal motorsport Commission) to assist young drivers attending the Federal School.

The Autodromo of Vallelunga, reproduced in all of its characteristics, will be included in the first release of Assetto Corsa and is the subject of a gallery of images showing the awesome McLaren MP4-12C in action on the circuit located near the beautiful city of Rome, Italy.

The gallery is available on Flickr.com at http://www.flickr.com/photos/assettocorsa/sets/72157633943691956/

I hope for non PC gamers that AC is ready for the launch of the PS4 but I doubt it will be given the size of the dev team and the budget they've got. It might come to the PS4 as mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

Regarding AC on PS4:

Me:Can you self-publish the AC on PS4 during the launch period as PSN indie-title. Revenue would be very big + DLC, any chance
Stefano:ya just need to recode the entire graphics engine, GUI, input, force feedback and who knows what else.. easy :D :D :D
Me:but the reward would be great :-). To bad it's that hard to port it to PS4. Nontheless looking forward for PC version :-)
Stefano:will definitely look into PS4.. after v1.0 and a looooooong vacation :P

Huh, OK well that closes the door on that for a little while at least. Well, that's probably good news for all of us waiting for the PC version. I am kind of surprised though. I think anyone making a PC game right now should be thinking hard about the DD options on nextgen (Sony at least).

Like he said though, it's going to still take time, people, and money to make that happen. It may be easier, but not easy.

Oops. Didn't really look that much. Just assumed it was a real life photo of their workplace track. So I guess it is a billboard that's not Fanatec. Yay for variety;)

Maybe so. But this is a tiny team of 15 struggling to get out any version at the moment. I can understand why they wouldn't want resources diluted any further. And why they wouldn't want to take on publisher money to expand.

About time Assetto Corsa was 'greenlit'. Great news indeed!

From the AC Facebook page:

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who helped us to bring Assetto Corsa on Steam Greenlight. This result will allow us to guarantee a better support, regular updates, fast downloads and a lot of additional contents, just to mention some of the things that will come.
The next step is to complete the submission process in order to prepare our game for preorder and launch. This will require a bit of time so, as soon as we'll complete this process, we'll reveal all the information related to the release date, pricing, list of contents, features, preorder, system requirements, and so on. GRAZIE, thank you very much for your amazing support and for your patience.

Now, you surprised us, let us surprise you: we are proud to announce one of our favourite additions to Assetto Corsa, the circuit of SPA Francorchamps!

It's not just the most famous belgian circuit , but it is also a circuit full of history. It is one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, mainly due to its fast, elevated and twisty nature. Located near Francorchamps, it has hosted the Formula 1 grand prix since 1924, and it is still considered one of the best and most rewarding tracks in the world, thanks to legendary corners such Eau Rouge / Raidillon and many more. Marco Massarutto, our Project & Licensing Manager, commented: “Spa-Francorchamps represents for racing circuits what the Ferrari represents for car Brands: you simply cannot ignore it. Like Monza and Silverstone, it has been the theatre of some of the most beatiful races in motorsport, and we are very proud to get the chance to reproduce it at our best.”

The SPA Francorchamps circuit will be reproduced in its modern layout, taking advantage of laserscan technology, and also an historical remake will be produced in future, in order to bring back to life the golden age of motorsport, thanks to the classic racing cars that will be included in the game.

SPA Francorchamps circuit will be included in the first Premium Pack DLC that will include also some new additional cars, and be downloadadble FOR FREE for all those who will pre order their copy of Assetto Corsa.

Assetto Corsa's preorder will be launched soon. Stay tuned to keep updated!

I still do not have PC, but thanx to XBONE great policy I will probably have it soon.

QUESTION.

I already have a Steam account with GTR games (that SImbin pack or whatever was it). If I "pre-order" Asseto Corsa over Steam, it will *wait* for me with all bonus-content even if not installed and run, right?

Same question goes for NetKar Pro - I bought it from Kunos via their site few months ago,but I never actually downloaded it. What can I expect once I actually buy PC?

Thank you for the answers!

It sure will. Any games you've already purchased through Steam, and any games you might purchase in the future through the Steam website will be there listed in your library whenever you open the client. Bonus content, everything. Just click install.

Ketkar is a little different because it's not on Steam, but you should have an email with the serial number, and a download link. If you don't have it anymore, just email them. They'll have you on record, and will send you a new key.

PC sims are great, PC gaming is great, Steam is great. You'll really enjoy yourself.

We'll be waiting :)

A couple of posts from Marco Massarutto on RaceDepartment in regards to the comments on Assetto Corsa making it onto Steam and the DLC. Sim racers are amongst the biggest whiners in gaming (I understand the ironic nature of my comment too 8] ). Full thread here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/threads/assetto-corsa-spa-license-and-pre-order-info.70935/

I would like to thank of all you for compliments, support and constructive criticisms. I would like just to add that there will not exist any DLC at Day One. We never mentioned nothing about it, it is not our policy, and just to be clear, the production of SPA Francorchamps has not started yet. So, I find some criticisms a bit unfair, at least because are based just on personal suppositions that sometime are passed of as absolute truth. Assetto Corsa will be released months before any additional content. And, the additional contents are just the prove that is our intention to continue to improve and support Assetto Corsa as long as possible. As you can imagine, the production of contents requires a lot of time, and the additional package mentioned in our last PR will also include some car models. Those package must be considered just like a gift for all those people will continue to support our efforts to give to simracing enthusiasts the best simulation we are able to deliver.

And..

The Steam announcement clarifies -and is the reason why- we have not released yet definitive info about the release date and is also one of the reasons why we missed the Spring 2013, but things are much complicate than you can suppose (and sometime is the same for us, we aren't smarter than any other), and sometime things require more than a reasonable amount of time. We are arranging details and technical matters related to Steam integration of our software, while we go on with dev and testing. As you can understand, is not a good idea to release a game that has requested almost 4 years of development in the mid of Summer, but we'll not announce anymore an "expected within"; we'll announce the definitive release date, that will also open the preorder of the game. That, just to get off any doubt, will be released THIS year. Therefore, the delay is not due to any porting of AC on consoles, or to commercial agreements with any publisher to transform Assetto Corsa in an arcade (I've read everything and its opposite...) or any other...conspiracy. :D

I complete my statement here adding that Assetto Corsa will include DLCs, but it is not BASED on DLCs, and of course it will never require any kind of subscription. For us, the function of DLCs is to put more additional contents and expand the simulation without delaying too much the time needed to close the main build. Considering the kind of contents we are creating for our simulation, sometime it's easy to forget that we are a little and indipendent software house, and that we don't have infinite resources (even if, also on this argument, I've read some freak theories:D). Anyway, I believe that about 10 tracks and 25-30 cars in the first release will keep you busy until SPA Francorchamps will be available for download.

Oh my God, that thread... They really need to clean up the trash over there. Place is a zoo.

Sounds great: This year, Steam, 10 tracks, 25-30 cars, Spa a little while later (free with preorder), further support beyond that. Sign me up.

chances of great logitech FFB out of the box without needing to fiddle randomly with in game and logitech settings?

Awesome new about being greenlighted, I'll be pre-ordering as soon as it's up..

I might build a PC for the gaming rig since PS4 has nothing for a while, and the XB1 isn't likely to support fanatec (never mind the DRM)..

Kunos's physics guru Aristotelis Vasilakos posted on FB that the Huayra's active aero flaps take 16 telemetry channels input to work. Back to browsing the WMD forums thoughts on Assetto Corsa, pissing contests are always a good read 8)

A couple of interesting tweets from Stefano Casillo recently:

"Really really happy about performances.. 57fps on the grid at monza with 16 cars in front, 1680x1050... nvidia 570"

and...

"Also managed to improve performances on the physics side, now 20 AI cars are possible, hopefully we'll get to 25ish for release"

Cheers.

Seems pretty reasonable. I think everyone wondered with the tech demo - well what's this going to be like with 20 cars? I know I sure did.

I liked that interview too. Really straight forward.

in motion it's the best looking racing game, no doubt about it. project cars looks great in screenshots, when actually playing it though it's pretty bad

I agree. Something about pCARS is just a bit off. A/C also looks FAR better at lower settings. At medium settings pCARS looks (and runs on my PC) terrible. A/C runs on medium-high, at 60fps, and looks far far better.

I cannot wait to see what higher power cars are like in A/C. The oversteer/understeer feedback is phenomenal.

AC seems like it will look better, more of the time. I think you can cherry pick from any of the current sims and be really impressed with how they look, but ugly lurks around every corner. There just doesn't appear to be much of a drop off in AC.
