Astro Bot is Sony’s 10th GOTY nomination in a row.

With Astro Bot's GOTY nomination Sony has now released a Game of the Year contender every year for the past 10 years.

  1. 2015 - Bloodborne
  2. 2016 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  3. 2017 - Horizon Zero Dawn
  4. 2018 - Marvel's Spider-Man / God of War (Winner)
  5. 2019 - Death Stranding
  6. 2020 - Ghost of Tsushima / The Last of Us Part II (Winner)
  7. 2021 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  8. 2022 - Horizon Forbidden West / God of War: Ragnarök
  9. 2023 - Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  10. 2024 - Astro Bot
I think Astro Bot is the next game to get remastered....

Are you all even trying with the FUD anymore? It at least used to be believable.
Nothing FUD about Sony gutting GoW to instead mimic its more popular Naughty Dog IPs. I have played through the original GoW games probably more times than you would believe me. I could barely finish 2018 and didn't even have motivation to get started on Ragnarok after watching some online story.

Very impressive on Sony's part but it's crazy how MS has spent billions buying out half the industry and still can't manage to get a GOTY nominee in 11 years

Imagine taking these Keighley awards as validation that your favourite plastic box has the best games 💀
Fanboys are gonna fanboy. But when you're invited by compromise, and everyone in the room knows you haven't contributed anything to the medium or industry beyond buying publishers just to lay off people and shut down award-winning studios…☠️

Geoff is a freaking genious. Everybody seems to think that his shows are the gaming Oscars and whatever wins there is the one and only goty. The other 500 or 600 gaming awards don't seem to exist.

i think they does not want certain monka game to win.
It was like the game didn't exist in the US. Didn't get mentioned on NPD month or anything so wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't show up at TGAs either.

Sony brings polish and a lot of narrative driven games, that combo tends to do well during award season.

Astrobot isn't really narrative focused but its heavy reliance on nostalgia is almost adjacent to that.

You said it!
i know you believe i am a fanboy... but I'm just spitting facts. and the fact that you got defensive, tells me that you got hurt for some reason.

Everyone knows that shows like The VGAs or the Oscars, are PR/Marketing stunts. One important aspect (probably the most important) for the winners, is the awareness of their games and a bump in sales.

Yet, Phil Spencer still clueless at the process

Well, Astro Bot is there, which ironically has more convincing evidence of being treated like ""his baby"" if you follow what happened to Japan Studio (or more accurately, what happened to series like Knack or Gravity Rush). :goog_grinning_sweat:

And next year has DS2 and GoY
If there's anything we can learn from TLOU2 it's that DS2 can do whatever it wants and still win GoY.

This just shows the pathetic state of gaming since the PS360 generation ended.
It's nice having the PS2 to point to as the "Peak of Console Gaming" and its >155mil unit sales to make it an objective fact.
That fact not changing for over two decades has been a rare constant in a world where so much around us is changing.

If we're counting the Spike and VGX era, SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs (2003), God of War (2005), LittleBigPlanet (2008), Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009, winner), God of War III (2010), Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (2011), Journey (2012) and The Last of Us (2013) were also nominated.

These awards are useless and arbitrary, this idea that one game is superior to another because it was nominated is wrong on several levels. Just play what you like most and be happy.

And I got laughed at for saying Sony destorys Capcom as a publisher in that other thread.

LOL

Wow, MS truly is pathetic - Theres no other way to put it and im a grown ass man so im not sugarcoating it either.

Garbage output, garbage console. complete trash lmao. not a singlt GOTY contender since what, Gears in 2006?

As if Sony AAA titles haven't been different flavors of TLOU for the longest now. Including the game in your avatar, which was sadly butchered from its origins to appease to a more drama oriented audience.
Yeah but if you are going to knock Sony for it, one would expect you to do the same with the maker of souls-like games. Regardless, this is a pointless argument to even get into. People need to understand that a game or series can be good and they might still not find it interesting. I played the original GOW games and the series is one of my favorites but I didn't mind the new take on it with GOW 2018/Ragnarok.

I have really tried to like souls-like games, bought Demon Souls remake and Elden Ring, just couldn't finish them.
