This topic has given quite a lot in so little time, the powerpuff conversation was also a nice touch.
Thanks, but I'm still waiting for someone to deliver an essay about them.

OP, could you make your little girl watch the show and tell us her opinion on it?

What referencing style should I accept when setting my gf an essay, Havard???
I was gonna make a joke here, but then realised that no one will understand it unless they follow argentinian politics :p

OP's little girl is 8 months old.

this sort of things should be sorted out before procreation.

how about doing both? introduce both your gf's religion and your atheism to your kid as she grows up. Let her choose when she's 18.

Dude. They're just gonna dunk your baby in some water. She can choose if she cares about God when the time comes.

I'm Greek Orthodox. I was baptised and went to mass and greek school and all that. I don't believe in God. But I absolutely cherish that time I spent with all my cousins because of religion growing up.

And if she does end up believing, so what? What are the negatives? It's not worth losing your family over.

I wonder if that would work in this case, OP is going quite mental about his believes, and perhaps his gf too. That would be two parents basically screaming they are right to the kid.

I agee with MrCookiepants though, i grew up with religion, went to church, did all the 'special' things untill the age of 11/12. And honestly, i just remember having fun with my friends, family and classmates. While learning about caring for eachother, which is something universal.

To be fair to the OP, this is kinda what he suggested to the GF - but she wanted nothing of that (she wanted the kid ot be raised as a christian because "teenagers are less likely to pick religion").

Let's not kid ourselves, the mother is still crazy.

I just feel sorry for the baby.
Getting raised up in a pretty extremist religious environment, with no father around because he was a stubborn dumbass.

Well, to be honest, it is quite rare to see reality bending actually happening, but you managed to do it. It is fascinating.

In the meantime, it is most likely that she is having pressure time from the social circle she lives in, and that is a strong motivator. If that defines crazy, everyone but the hermits are crazy.

Then don't have sex with her. The moment you cross that line you are opening this can of worms on yourself. I don't care if you used 3 different kinds of birth control at once, when you have intercourse you open the possibility that she will get pregnant.

The OP said that he would teach his child about other religions, not to believe in other religions.

That's akin to teaching Greek mythology in school.

I'm not seeing how that justifies doing it unilaterally, unless of course she has a particularly fanatical view about her religion.

If you've gone through the whole thread (or read Lionel's summary), this isn't really about religion anymore, but the OP wanting to take control of his girlfriend and child's life in the end. Lionel Mandrake's summary should put things in perspective.

He's gone about this situation in such an immature and stupid way that I can't see how he can reverse the damage he's done.

Or teaching religion in school?
I dunno if that's done in the United States, but it's certainly part of the curriculum in the UK.
Of course it's not the same as making kids believe in the religions they are taught about, but I think that's a ridiculous thing to demand as a parent.

Religion is only taught in a historical or literary context in public schools in the US, usually not until high school.

A theist would not consider it a ridiculous demand to teach belief. OP's compromise isn't a compromise--he wasn't giving up anything. A better compromise would have been to raise her as a Unitarian, but with OP's militant stance, I don't think there's any possible compromise.

I just don't get how religious people think it seems.

Yes, religion is still relevant when people are talking about the child's future. Clearly unreasonably religious mother besides the unreasonable father.

Furthermore it ignores the order of events to argue that she was justified because of how he acted later as well.

I guess rationality is limited to one's own ability to reason well. Explains the op, and whatever you were trying to imply. I'm going to go ahead and give up. Enjoy your thread. I'm out.

The gif...the ultimate proof of religious views. I bow to your abilities of rationalizing.

This is like that other fraud recently who dragged his story out for 10 pages and posted a fucking troll face. He got away with that. Looks like OP's getting away with this bullshit as well. I like joke threads when they're clever. This is just taking advantage of GAF's desire to help people.
