Seventeen seasons without missing a single game, 2632 consecutive games played. Nobody is breaking that record.

Unless Tiger can turn things around over the next 10 years or so I don't think Jack's 18 majors will ever fall. Competition is too fierce now.

This right here. Tiger is done, I doubt he'll honestly win another major. And no one else is even on the caliber of those two, not even close.

Fewest Starters - 6 - 2005 US Grand Prix
Fewest points between first and second in the World Championship - 0.5 - Niki Lauda (72 pts.) and Alain Prost (71.5 pts.) in 1984
Shortest Formula One career (having qualified for at least one race) - a little over 800 metres (1/2 mile) Marco Apicella (1993 Italian Grand Prix)
Shortest time elapsed before earning a penalty - 6 seconds - Sebastian Vettel (2006 Turkish Grand Prix; recorded speeding in pit lane six seconds into his career as a Formula One driver)

Formula One.

Michael Schumacher's record of seven world titles. Circumstances won't allow it to happen, the stars really did align for him and Ferrari during that era of F1. Circumstances that will not be repeated.

Defensive systems have found a way to control offensive production.
I wouldn't say everything Gretzky, but I think 50 goals in 39 games was extremely impressive and will be the toughest record to beat.

I think his 163 assist record is far more impressive than 50-in-39 (and 92 goals). Brett Hull, Mario Lemieux and even Cam Neely made good runs at those (Neely's 50 in 44 was just as impressive... he did it in a much lower scoring era), but even Gretzky himself never came close to 163 again. It's a ridiculous total that nobody has even remotely come close to.

1. Wayne Gretzky* 163 1985-86
2. Wayne Gretzky* 135 1984-85
3. Wayne Gretzky* 125 1982-83
4. Wayne Gretzky* 122 1990-91
5. Wayne Gretzky* 121 1986-87
6. Wayne Gretzky* 120 1981-82
7. Wayne Gretzky* 118 1983-84
8. Mario Lemieux* 114 1988-89
Wayne Gretzky* 114 1988-89
10. Wayne Gretzky* 109 1980-81
Wayne Gretzky* 109 1987-88
12. Wayne Gretzky* 102 1989-90

Crazy! This will be the last of his records to fall, if any do

Yep, oh, and yours too Leunam, though that is not a great record to claim :)

I don't see anyone emulating the invincible Arsenal team of 03/04. Truly magical.

Strictly in the Premiership? Maybe... But I could see either Barca or Real winning *every* game one of these years in La Liga. The gap between those two teams and the rest of the league is staggering. (Barca only lost 2 games last year, and just *1* game the year before...) Hell, Barca's only lost 2 games this year, and they'll still probably end up finishing 10 or so points behind Real!

I also wouldn't be shocked if someone eventually gets past 72 wins. Maybe not, though.

Tiger will beat Jack's 18 majors.

No one will touch Tigers weeks at No. 1 ranking (623)

Favre's games played can be broken but I hope to God his INT record stays intact. In terms of records, for me, the only one that I would put money on to never be broken till the end of time is Cy Young's wins. The nature of the sport has changed so much that we will never even see a 300 game winner ever again. In terms of this thread, I think single season records have a chance to be broken but some of the career ones are iron proof like Gretzky.

Just to put Pete Rose's hits record into perspective, take all of Ichiro's hits in Japan and in the Majors and you'd still fall way short. Its insane.

Forgot Ricky Henderson's stolen base single season record. I don't think anyone will come close to that one above all else, because it's a lost art or strategy in the game nowadays.

Kobes string of 40+ and 50+ games. Pretty sure one of those is a record. Either way, nobody in the modern era will touch those. Also wasn't 81 points the highest in the shotclock era? Also out of reach, I'd say.

Yeah.

Jeter is the closest active player and he STILL needs 1200 hits.

Jeter has been in the league 17 years. So he would need to average 200 hits for the next 6 years.

The hit record is kinda mind blowing. If you played 20 years and got 200 hits each year, you still wouldn't break it. But, remember, people thought the original record was unbreakable, and it got broken. So, we'll see. I still say the consecutive games with a hit could be breakable, because there are a ton more shots to get it. I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime, though. Either record, really.

As big of a basketball guy that I am I think the most untouchable one in the OP is Cy Young's win record.

People are wondering if we'll ever see a 300 game winner again (go C.C!!), let alone someone who could pick up the remaining 200+ wins. It'll never ever happen again with how they baby pitchers now. That and the hit record will never ever be broken.

I'd like to think the Bulls record being untouchable but with the way this league loads everyone up on 5-8 teams I could see someone like the Heat beating it. Wilt's 100 will probably never be topped. Durant could do it if Worstbrook wasn't there to try and outshoot him, with how much help from the refs that team gets.

I have a good one, though it will be lost on a lot of you:

Cricket - Test average 99.94 by Bradman (minimum of say 30 innings)

At least it's technically possible. This one just blows my mind:

In 1982, Henderson broke Lou Brock's major league single season record by stealing 130 bases, a total which has not been approached since. He stole 84 bases by the All-Star break; no player has stolen as many as 84 bases in an entire season since 1988, when Henderson himself stole 93.Henderson's 130 steals outpaced nine of the American League's 14 teams that season

Last year's leader was Bourne with 61.

i dont think i will see dimaggio's record broken its just ..ugh one of those records you could get blanked once and go right back to having a hit in 80% of your games and it wouldnt matter.

Wilt 's 100 pts is safe forever unless something fishy is going on.

barry bonds single season HR record..asterix or no, its not gettin broken because ken griffey jr got hurt and never stayed healthy.

I think a lot of the nfl RB records are safe just because its a passing league. Used to be a smashmouth downhill league.

Ichiro's career is far from done though.

As with Nolan Ryan I find Rose's longevity more impressive than the actual record.

Actually, if Ichiro manages to hit 3000 in the MLB I would put it in the realm of fucking impressive too.

I wouldn't call it 'far' from done. He is 38, after all.

As for Kobe's 81, I dare you to find a game where Michael Jordan looked better. I like to periodically watch the "All 81 points in 3 minutes" video.

I'm going with Cy Young's 511 wins. Many pitchers from this generation might not even make it to 300.

Roger Maris' single season home run record.

Steroid freaks don't count.

The only unbreakable records, IMO, are the ones that were done in eras where athletes played a ton more than they do now, like Cy Young's win record. No one can win 500 games again because starting pitchers only average ~30 games per year, making it nearly mathematically impossible for them to break the record.

Anything that has to do solely on ability will be broken eventually.
