I think at this point they want to make Switch owners as mad as humanely possible.

You know what, I'm convinced now. A (Switch 2) announcement is coming later this year. & because it isn't announced yet, they can't mention this game coming to Nintendo. I don't see them outright skipping out on Nintendo, not when switch is selling the way it is in Japan. Just doesn't make sense.

Really pleasantly surprised, this announcement came out of nowhere and for once an Atlus countdown hasn't disappointed.

Talk about a roast for the Switch.

Ok that's pretty wild. This doesn't feel like a sequel to Soul Hackers in any appreciable way. It feels more like a Persona 3-style reboot. Hopefully I can find a PlayStation by the time this comes out here.

No switch release for Soul Hackers 2? Dafuq are they thinking?

This shouldn't be surprising considering Atlus' strategy with the SMT-related games. They've been putting mainline SMT on Nintendo consoles for awhile while Playstation and other places has gotten Persona, etc. Soul Hackers would be an off-shoot so it not being on a Nintendo console with the main SMT games is kind of normal.

Not really since the first game was on the 3ds. And the 3ds version, according to wikipedia, was the only version localized into English. Probably most of the fanbase outside of Japan are Switch owners. So bizzare omission not to include it on Switch.

I'm just looking at the fact that the original Soul Hackers was on the 3ds, as well as strange journey Redux, Devil Survivor 1 & 2, and mainline IV + apocalypse. In my mind, Post PS2 era, SMT games came to Nintendo and persona games came to Playstation.

Wow. Skipping out on Switch is like skipping out on free money. This is a perplexing decision. Also, I think this could have done well on PC.
Ah, well. I stopped buying games on PS4 and I don't know when I will get a PS5, so this news is pretty underwhelming, but the fact the game exists still leaves some hope of a port in the future.

Soul Hackers was originally released on the Saturn then the Playstation, then the 3DS. The other Devil Summoner games were the same for their first release. Devil Summoner and Soul Hackers was Saturn, Raidou Kuzunoha games were Playstation. Strange Journey actually has Shin Megami Tensei in the title (in Japanese) so it being on the 3DS along with IV and Apocalypse fits with the scheme Atlus has been doing. You can consider it a part of the mainline franchise. The only exception to this rule has been Nocturne which was a PS2 title. Also, the fact they didn't make SMTV a multi-platform release should just prove my point that their development strategy is splitting up their shit between consoles.

Devil Survivor is considered an off-shoot like Digital Devil Saga. That's just a crapshoot where it lands as a result.

It's on PC and Xbox. Xbox versions are DL only though, at least in Japan anyway.

Damn. Okay. Maybe I'll 'import' it!
Thanks for the headsup. I saw a big PS4/PS5 at the bottom and assumed it was exclusive without doing further research.:messenger_loudly_crying:

Holy Shit! Finally! Plus its out across the globe at roughly the same time?! Good job Atlus! This is so great, getting it on Xbox day 1 and going to get a few copies for friends so they can experience it. I recently turned my best friend on to SMTV after him finally learning to like Jrpgs, he'd being a huge Pokebro his whole life. I was like nah man, you want more adult stories and themes, here is where its at. Now he's a huge fan.

Also, I love this recent trend of finally announcing games that release in the same year, several months away. It looks ready and my body is ready. Gotta say though that something about the art style and cel-shading reminds me of that SMT-FE game on WiiU/Switch. Not a bad thing, it makes the colors pop and I like that. 2022 is shaping up very nicely indeed.

I still believe Soul hackers 2 will come to Nintendo. I just think it is something they can't announce yet. Just my guess.

Also, wasn't there a datamine that suggested SMTV is coming to PS4. You don't think SMTV will get ported to PS4/PS5 in the future? I think Atlus is going multiplat. Even though SMTV isn't on PS4/PS5 or Soul Hackers 2 Nintendo isn't on Nintendo, I think both eventually will be. Maybe even Persona 4 Golden Persona 3 FES on the switch as well.

Future ports are always a big toss-up. A couple of games got ports to a variety of platforms outside of their usual ecosystems. However, Atlus definitely likes to do initial releases along console lines so it'll be down the line at some point if they do decide to do it.

But doesn't that theory get thrown out the window since this game will be releasing on PC and Xbox day one? You can't look at the past and say well they released these games on PS and these on Nintendo devices so that's how it will be going forward. Because now Atlus is releasing games on Xbox! (and PC).

As someone mentioned, maybe Atlus is having Nintendo foot the bill or something else is going on and that's why a Switch version hasn't been announced. But Atlus has always published their own games on Nintendo consoles, as far as I can tell. So them having Nintendo publish is out of line with past games.

And as I mentioned, the first game was only localized in English for the 3ds version. You would think the fanbase was on Nintendo devices so to skip the Switch is odd. I still think it will happen, but maybe they realized it was going to take a bit more effort to port to the Switch so it'll come at a later date.

Either way, I'm bummed. I'm really enjoying SMT V right now and I would love to play this game on my Switch. Maybe I need to buy a steam deck if that is the only way to experience this game portably. lol

Kind of depends on how Atlus sees it. It could be argued that PC/XBox/PS can all be seen as the same ecosystem for them.

True. Who other than Atlus knows? They are strange when it comes to choosing platforms. Why not put every game on every platform?

Does anybody knows what happened to Kaneko? Has he retired?
I think he has, this is why Doi is the new artist for SMT, like it or not artists are people like me and you they are not gonna keep drawing forever. Eventually even Akira might retire doing the art for DQ series.
