Just finished Episode 5 (with no subs), just WTF. Ep5 spoilers
I don't think I've seen an anime that worked so fast to show you that the main characters were all completely weak sauce. That attack scene was like the first alien attack in Aliens, everything went from bad to worse inside of 30 seconds. And that ending...damn. Still, I'm kind of amazed that humanity would base their entire attack strategy and years of training behind a technology like the 3D maneuver gear that doesn't seem to be effective at all.

Against the Titans there is no real defense. Better than running at them with a sword though. And those rookies ran out head first and got slaughtered. We need to see some pros.

I'll be okay with Eren dying if he does cos I love Mikasa but his badassery was growing on me
My thoughts on Eren and Mikasa:
Eren is/was Alpha enough to make him an interesting character, but I'm not sold on Mikasa just yet. We know little to nothing about her aside from the fact that she's some gifted badass. I think Eren will die leaving Mikasa to be the main character due to the fact that she's got all the tropes of a typical shounen protag.

I thought the exposition regarding the titans was interesting.
On the other hand it was incredibly stupid. You're telling me that these creatures don't attack any other fauna, just humans, for no particular reason. Which would've been an interesting explanation if you know, the titan's didn't kill every human we've seen so far by eating them. Not to mention you have the laws of thermodynamics to deal with.
Well even in the manga we don't know yet the true reason behind the Titan's bizarre urge to consume humans.
You know absolutely nothing yet. I think you should wait a little bit more before judging the lore.
My thoughts based only on the 5 eps:
They mentioned that the Titans aren't eating the humans for sustenance and also that the basic ones have little intelligence (explains the eating). Seems like someone or something is trying to wipe out the human race
Yeah but it just screamed to me to be a case of, 'We can't think of a good reason for this situation to even occur, so we're not going to bother at all, take it at face value guys! Giant illogical zombie people!'

You can blow off a titan's entire head + neck with a cannon,but it will regenerate.
Yet if you cut into his neck with a sword, he will die.
How can the neck be a weakpoint but at the same time it doesn't matter if you COMPLETELY OBLITERATE it?

Humans are probably the best bang for your buck.
Also, where is their god damned R&D department? You'd think facing extinction, they'd be able to come up with more than a gym kit. They came up with a pretty good bunker systems, have the construction power to build that city, they have cannons, (

No there isn't. If you subscribe to CR, the episode comes out the next day at 10am central. The reason why it didn't get put up today is because of Golden Week and they need some materials or something. It's supposed to go up in a couple of days

I say read the manga because the anime's pacing is going to leave us at a very terrible point or we get an anime end that will no doubt be stupid. The anime won't answer any questions and will only raise more as unless we get a second season, nothing will be answered.
As for what the Titans are, we can only speculate. We don't have many answers as the mangas pacing is glacial slow and it's monthly.

I fully expect Eren to emerge from the back side of the giant's head. I'm actually a bit disappointed that didn't happen this episode and they'll most likely shower us with exposition before showing us how he emerges all badass-like and pretend I should be surprised

Same director as Death Note, and that had a lot of shouting too.
Just wait for the endless moments where a characters just start saying names. Again and again. Usually while looking down and despairing. I swear to god if I hear "Shoko" with a 5 second pause on either side AGAIN in Valvrave, I'm going to self-destruct and hopefully take the writers with me.
