Attn: Buffy Fans, Point Pleasant Starts Tonight

Anyone else checking this out? Buffy alum Marti Noxon is working on this project as a writer, and I believe, producer. I know some credited her with ruining Buffy, but some of the Joss magic must have rubbed off on her.

The premise
(teen daughter of Satan washes up on the shore of a sleepy beachside community and things start getting screwy)
is really fucking cool and if handled well could blossom into something interesting. I read the pilot script and it's very tight and opens a ton of story and thread possibilities.

Buffy's Adam Busch (Warren) has a small role and I just read that Noxon is gunning to get James Marsters (Spike) on the show.

9:00 EST on Fox tonight
Then its regular Thursday slot begins tomorrow at 9:00

I'll give it a try, but I'm not expecting much. i've heard some positive reactions to the pilot, some mixed, some pretty negative.

Marti Noxon gets a lot of crap, but whether you think it's deserved or not, she should be given a chance. She wrote some of the ebst Buffy episodes ever, including the episodes which introuced Kendra and had Drusilla being restored to power, Surprise (The Judge, Angel and Buffy sleep together), Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered (Xander being chased by women after a love spell goes wrong), I Only Have Eyes For You (a dead student is taking people's bodies and reliving his killing of the teacher he was in love with)....ok, I'm almost listing them all here, so I'll stop. Suffice to say she has considerable talent.

Putting the premiere on at the same time as an Alias following Lost, when it's not even the night of the week the show will actually run on...genius Fox. Pure genius.

I don't know about that, it's probably just the sort of thing she likes to write.

I'm kind of disappointed that Point Pleasant isn't going to be big on the funny. It doesn't need to be another Buffy, and she might even be intentionally moving away from that, but with no Angel, Buffy or Firefly, I miss a quality show that has equal amounts of humour, drama and action. In fact The OC is probably the closest thing at the moment. There's plenty of more serious things around without another.

We know she can do it as she's written some very funny episodes, but it's the way it is so nevermind.

I would have liked it if Buffy had more ghost stories.....but that episode kind of blew goats ;)

If nothing else, atleast it's going to have the strongest lead in of any show tonight since its following American Idol. THat's alot better than they did for Wonderfalls, which had to follow "Playing it Straight".

:( That's one of my favourite episodes.

And I thought Lost won it's last two timeslots against American Idol.

This seems like the first time that a show has been cancelled and fans were concerted enough to follow around its writers to basically any other project that they work on. Does anyone know how this came about? Is it because AICN's Hercules keeps doing all the post-Buffy writer reports, or is this all coming from somewhere else in the fan community?

Yeah, but you also liked The Pack =P

The other Noxon episodes you listed were pretty good.

Hmm, I didn't think Lost had even premiered when AI was (last night was its first ep since May of last year and it brought in around 33million viewers).

I might not even bother. This show is already cancelled, you can almost feel it when you look at the promos. Same thing with Jonny Zero...but I'll go ahead and give Point Pleasant a chance anyway. I still think it's going to get moved to some shit timeslot like ANYTIME ON FRIDAY NIGHT and then we'll never hear from it again.

Here is my question. What happened to Tru Calling? That show had potential!

Tru Calling was finnaly cancelled after the end of last season. How that managed to make it out of a season while Wonderfalls couldn't even make it past 3 eps is astounding.

With that said, Eliza's now out of a job, Joss still wants to do a Faith spin off....Get on it!

Oh ok, I didn't know American Idol had only just started. God it'd be so fucking awesome if Lost could outperform it tonight, but I'm guessing American Idol is just too big. Lost could beat most reality shows, but not that one.

I hear the 5 Tru Calling episodes that were filmed for the second seaosn will be shown at some point of you care for the show. It's probably bullshit though.

And while Eliza Dushku may be free, Joss doesn't want to do TV anymore. Not the way it is at the moment. And Tim Minear has The Inside and Marti Noxon has Point Pleasant and David Fury and Jeff Bell are on Lost and Alias, so that would pretty much only leave the option of David Greenwalt to run it. And who knows what he's doing.

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!
yeah, especially after the monster numbers last night, i doubt anything comes close to AI tonight

It wouldn't start till next season at the earliest so he'd have some options. Personally, i'd like for DeKnight to run his next show.

Can you blame him? Reality TV is fucking everything up for his sort of shows, Firefly got screwed by Fox while something like Tru calling was given a chance and Angel was cancelled after they did everything the WB asked, reduced the shows budget and raised ratings.

TV's totally screwed him lately. He wants to do it, just not with crap like that going on.

It wouldn't start till next season at the earliest so he'd have some options. Personally, i'd like for DeKnight to run his next show.

Well he's done fuck all for the quality of Smallville so far this season. In fact this is almost definitely the worst yet, and he wrote a pretty good episode with Run and possibly the worst Smallville episode I've ever seen with Spell.

He was also involved with some of the weaker episodes of Angel S5. Some of the good ones too (co-written), but I'm not convinced he's the reason they were good.

Well, its actual timeslot is Thursdays at 9, so its real lead-in is The OC which seems like a smart move. There, it's going up against, what-- CSI and bad NBC sitcoms? It could find a niche if it doesn't completely suck.

33 million viewers watched AI yesterday. A looooooooooooot more than FOX expected. This is going to be hardcore! :lol

US TV shows would kill for some of the ratings (percentage wise) that certain UK shows bring in.

Eastenders and Coronation Street go out 4 or 5 times a week, all year, every year, and somestimes get viewers in excess of 20 million. On average I'd say 17-18 million.

That's a third of the population (UK pop. roughly a fifth of the US) It's like a US show getting 100 million viewers everytime, 250 times a year. Of course I realise TV is handled differnetly in the UK, but they'd still kill for it.

Marti sucks, so no thanks.

Don't do an attn: to me unless it's featuring the actual talented part of Buffy. Kay, thanks.

Are either of those any good?

Well they're soaps, so...

Actually, I quite liked Eastenders whenever I bothered to watch it. hear it's been really shit lately though. I've always been incredibly impressed with the acting, for a soap it's nothing short of remarkable.

I don't watch Coronation Street, but I know a lot of people like it. Any time I see any of it, I just laugh at the awful acting. I think they go out of their way to find these people, even if you just randomly selected people off the street you'd end up with a decent actor every so often.

It's only ten minutes in and I'm getting a very large "lame" vibe from this show.

First of all, it just looks like a Fox show and there's a few points deducted. And the dialogue is not only bad, but pretty stupid.

You find a girl in the ocean. She wakes up in a strange house, and asks where she is...you answer New Jersey? Then the name of the city?

Whatever happened to "I'm a doctor, this is my house, a lifeguard brought you here"?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. So far this show is mighty lame. It's like I've seen this crap a million times before. The "suspense" is too predictable to be scary or even shocking.

So far it just looks like a supernatural OC, not surprising considering it will follow The O.C. on Thursday nights...

Supernatural OC sounds about right. Not sure why i'm still watching it. Anyone notice the 'birthmark' looked like 666?

Ehn, lame vibe is right. I forgot how much I dislike the Fox production values. Fewer bitchy women more
attackers being destroyed by a swarm of bees in a church
. I'll give this another episode or two then it's buh-bye unless the writing and pacing improves.

That... was quite possibly... the sh*ttiest, most laugh-out-loud awful television show FOX has aired in years. And THAT's saying a lot. I tuned out when Satan's lil' girl made the Jeep explode, and caught the end of Alias (a show I know next to nothing about) instead.

Aye Eastenders has been a bit crappy of late. They've had a lot of cast problems though, with lots of their most popular cast members leaving, having breakdowns from exhaustion, becoming pregnant.

It's quite sad but one of their more popular younger cast members is/was suffering from depression and tried to kill himself and has now quit. He's only 20 I think.

As for Point Pleasant. It's starting next week in the UK on E4 (a cable spinoff of Channel4, one of the 5 main channels). Of all the shows that we don't have to wait ages to get.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Hot chicks dont always make a good show fox...ughh that was not good.

...

It was like 90210 with an amnesiac (not really, but she doesn't know what she is *gasp* teh original) female teen satan. Uninteresting characters that were JUST introduced are already starting to feel romantic vibes between them. Crappy dialogue. Lots of sex and skin for no compelling reason. Crappy satan-spawn powers; she can make accidents happen! People get horny in her general vicinity! How boring.

I'll give this show one more chance.

Bleh, snob.

In 9 months he'll probably be begging to be let back on TV =\
Not if the Firefly movie ("Serenity") makes enough for Universal to commission the rest of the trilogy Joss has planned.

He won't be back on TV for a while - and when he comes back, he'll be dictating the terms, not the networks.

The daughter is actually the most attractive of all the girls on the show imo. The others are just rather bleh I thought.

As for the show..I'll watch it because its from a Buffy writer. It does have potential, but the whole 90210 feel makes me nautious. I got excited about the show because it was suppose to be dark, not so it could be another teen sex drama.

Also this is a 2 parter, so tonight ep will be a pick up of where this one left off. So i'd atleast give it to next weeks episode before completely writing it off.

On the bright side, Ben Edlund is a writer on the show now so that gives me some confidence it'll be good. He co wrote and directed several Angel eps, including...

Show takes itself way too seriously. And it's not written well enough to pull that off.

It might be a supernatural OC in terms of premise, but in terms of quality, it's not even close.

Ben Edlund is an absolute class act though. He can write serious stuff, and he's done it well, but his comedic talent is going to be wasted on this show.

Given that I even preferred Tru Calling to this, and that any Fox show I like is cancelled, I'm going to say this will be the break out hit of the season.

Mama Smurf said:

It's definetly got alot that needs to be fixed if they're going to try to make the show as serious as they want it to be. I'm wanting them to pull it off, i'd like atleast 1 ex Buffy/Angel writers show to be on the air right now (would've greatly preferred that show to be Wonderfalls though).

Perhaps Marti just knows what she has to do to get her foot in the door with a Fox show. Lots and lots of sex, and then throw the switch when its a hit and go in a completely different and people could stay.

Pretty much. Unless the trailer has alot of Rap and NU metal i dont see serenity making money at all :(

Althought its amazing he got a some one to give him a budget. MAybe DVd sales will help.

I think Serenity will have no problem making a profit, given its relatively low budget. I doubt it'll be a huge hit, but the Buffy fanbase is pretty rabid and that gives it an advantage over a lot of the other movies that aren't the big names.

There are also very strong rumours linking him with writing and directing a Wonder Woman movie and he's still being linked to the vacant X-Men 3 spot. Plus he's had an extremely successful run as a comic writer for Astonishing X-Men, gaining both critical acclaim and high sales. As much as I'd love him to come back to TV, whether in the Buffyverse or something new, I'd be surprised if it happens in the next few years.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Mutant Enemy's staff were all let go, and he asked Fox to let him end his contract with them a year early. Which they did.

There's still hope that the Buffy animated series might make it, but that's about it. And I haven't heard anything about that for a while. Maybe they'll go straight to DVD or something.
