So this was trump's end game? Well played. So, is everyone going to call for him to resign? Probably not. Everyone got suckered into the "false" sour relationship between Sessions and Trump like this guy wasn't still a flawed little man.

EDIT: "The Department of Justice holds a press conference with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats on leaks and announces measures they'll be taking to investigate them."

They say they are tripling the resources dedicated to investigating leaks. The previous administration dedicated few resources to this cause and investigated very few of the referrals from the intelligence community. Four individuals have already been charged. They say the intelligence community is discouraged about the few investigations into leaks after referrals have been made to the justice department. They are taking necessary steps to identify these leaks, forward their information to the FBI for a full investigation and the director of national intelligence will take executive action to deal with these individuals.

"Leaks bad, we will hunt you down" all that's been said basically.

Will they go after Trump for blabbing actual secrets, then?

Basically just sounds like threats at this point? Like "If you leak, we'll take full action against you."

Just saying they'll look for those people and then take them to task...which I assume they've already been doing and simply don't know where it's coming from.

"I'll do anything in my power, just you watch!"

No real policy or anything, it's just like parents lecturing their kids. They don't want this administration to crumble, so they're just folding their arms and tapping their feet. It's stupid.

Wait, is that it? Sessions said his piece, left before answering any questions, and now the audio's cut out.

Also, he pronounces "prosecute" like "prosecate."

"We are reviewing security clearances. Leaking is bad. It makes our Government look more stupid than we already do. If we find people leaking information of the amoral, damning things this Government is doing, you can bet your ass we will hunt you down. We will find you"

IC Response: "No you won't"

They're going after the press in addition to the leakers themselves. Not sure what legal instruments they have for that, but this seems to be main new thing so far.

Am I missing the "endgame" here? He just made some boilerplate threats against leakers like the admin has done a bunch of times already, right?

Pointless. The only legally actionable leaks are those that involve classified information.
I'm not aware of any that have?
I suppose there are the ones by the President himself.

Scare tactics. As if the leakers aren't already aware that the administration including the sleaze ball Sessions will throw every ounce of their weight at them if they are caught. It's for the good of the country because public pressure is needed to get any action at all.

lol, I remember your posts from the other thread regarding tensions between Trump and Sessions.

It's amazing how the trump team is able to use the media as a pawn. LOL at his antics with sessions (there is no rift by the way). All a ploy. I'm interested to see what it's for.
My thoughts: He wants sessions to resign but wants to give him an excuse to do so. Why? To put someone in place to save his family. He's probably gone over this with sessions himself. Hence my opinion that there is no rift.

That nth dimensional chess stuff.

What was with the proper channels caveat? Are they trying to intimidate people who may cooperate with the investigation?

I agree that leaking conversation transcripts between world leaders sets a bad precedent. But frankly, exposing the dangerous incompetence of our current president is more important at this moment. I hope (maybe naively) that once we have a different president this horse can be put back in the barn, but if not... so be it.

They'll keep burning through communications people, political hacks and suspected leakers until there's no one left. The dysfunction is only going to end once Trump leaves office.

1) Can a mod fix the title?

2) Talking to the press isn't illegal unless the information is classified. Telling the NYT about a meeting you had with the president where he acted the fool isn't classified information.

The leaks will not stop because this is a terribly run and terribly staffed administration full of idiots, cronies, and idiot cronies.

Ooooo I'm sure the leakers are scared stiff of the KKKeebler Elf and his threats.

Any attempt to go after the Press on this is basically just an intimidation effort. Press knows they'd win in court, and any of the big outlets have lawyers that are ready to go.

LOL I was Obvioulsy wrong about the reason. However, with him doing this pointless presser (Which, let's all admit, is to rub Trumps ego and give him talking points), was his end game. Now everyone is going to look at sessions and say, hey, this same guy that was going to get fired by trump is agreeing with trump about this leaker story.

I see nothing here to indicate that the heat between Trump and Sessions was false or imagined. I'm not even sure what you're trying to say there. They've been talking about leaks forever and it's something that affects the administration as a whole, not just Trump

the only person who seems to be leaking actual classified info is trump himself so im assuming this cuck keebler fuck is going after him? of course not

? The previous administration was very aggressive against leaks. Even the vice chairman of the joint chiefs was convicted (later pardoned)

Leaks are a problem but if they really want to cut down on the unprecedented amount of leaks coming out of this administration they need to just stop lying to the public about everything
