As the White House braces for former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony Thursday, sources tell ABC News the relationship between President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has become so tense that Sessions at one point recently even suggested he could resign.

The friction between the two men stems from the attorney general's abrupt decision in March to recuse himself from anything related to the Russia investigation -- a decision the president only learned about minutes before Sessions announced it publicly. Multiple sources say the recusal is one of the top disappointments of his presidency so far and one the president has remained fixated on.

But I do wonder what dregs Trump would have in store if he replaced Sessions as Sessions was the bottom of the barrel.

The recusal was the only way for Sessions to save his ass. Trump, being the gigantic manbaby, is left wondering how it could possibly be that Sessions didn't willingly fall on the sword for him (a move that would've benefited no one).

Sessions became AG because he was an early Trump adopter. His shit views are a bonus. He passed confirmation on a party split vote which is not common.

He won't be able to do worse AND get them by the Senate.

If he resigns, does Trump get to nominate (and let's face it, confirm) another AG who will throw up roadblocks to the Russia investigation?

So, like why is this happening? What exactly are the disagreements between these two and why is it getting so bad? Is Trump blaming Sessions for things that are actually his fault (and what are those things)? Or is Trump using Sessions as a scapegoat for policy failures (muslim ban)? Or is Sessions under pressure to deliver things on behalf of Trump that he has no mandate to work on (make the Russia investigation disappear)?

Really shows you what Trump's priorities are. If Sessions recusal is one of his biggest disappointments, that is pretty scary.

you know, ive had a long time to think about this and i honestly think he may be my most hated person in this whole administration. he is just intelligent enough to actually do damage and i would welcome him to resign and be as far away as possible.

There are many many MANY things I wish would happen to this man but I'll settle for resigning (for sake of brevity)

Considering how he hasn't even named a FBI director, would he even name one in the foreseeable future? Nobody viable wants to work with him and he can't find anyone to fit his purity test.

While I want him to go away, isn't it better that he stays on(for now) since he recused himself from the whole Russia thing? Couldn't the person who gets appointed in his stead fire Mueller?

Trump feels that Sessions' recusal is what led to the special prosecutor. Basically Sessions didn't stand his ground.

Negative rumors about the Trump administration seem to always end up being proven true so this was expected.

DeVos is, by far, the most hated. She literally has to be escorted everywhere she goes. Sessions is a close second

Does the DAG automatically become AG if the current one steps down anyway? I know Trump can name someone else, but for the foreseeable future it's probably going to be in the current DAG's hands

Everyone hates her even Republicans and they should because she is trash. I would love for Sessions to resign he is garbage as well.

Nah, better for him to stay in his position, recused as he is, and it will look all the worse for Trump when he finally goes down while still attached to the Trump admin.
