Bob Carr isn't seriously foreign minister is he? I can't believe this. Give it to someone interested in foreign affairs - give it to steven smith! =/ So sick of this denying crap. If he was under consideration why didn't Gillard just say so? Bit of honesty isn't going to do any harm. Wouldn't even be bothered if she said "we were considering him but in the end decided to go with X" if the plan fell through. Why bother lying?

What? Bob Carr has been interested in being Foreign Minister since Keating's days. And as for denying it, the media has been running bent up stories about Gillard's attempts to get Carr into the minstry being squashed by Labor heavyweights. If I was Julia Gillard I wouldn't be commenting on shit until it's a done deal either if they're going to run dumb and obviously unfounded angles such as this.

On that note, Steven Smith was one of the senior ministers being fingered by the media as one of the crew keeping Bob Carr out due to the their apparent dislike of 'outsiders' taking cabinet positions.

I still find it odd about her saying "no I haven't spoken to him" when she had. If they had gone with someone else she could have spun it in her favour. A little honesty couldn't hurt that much, or at least just keeping out of it.

If this wasn't happening at the end of an eighteen month smear campaign against "Juliar" by News Limited and Friends, nobody would give a shit. But unfortunately, saying something enough apparently makes it true and now the public views Julia Gillard as untrustworthy and a liar. Then something as minor as this happens and it's all somehow validated.

JG didnt hold a press conference over it.

Pretty sure it was the other way around. "Completely untrue" and all that.

Either way, if it's in the public interest she should be telling the truth.

Like I said, this isn't a huge deal. I just think it provides an interesting insight into politics.

Didn't know it was during question time. That makes it worse. She rightly should be castigated for lying during question time. Just because the truth is awkward does not mean it is okay to lie to parliament. Rubbish.

Reading the Australian comments section is the highlight of my day. So much hilarious anger and blatant misinformation (Particularly from janet albrechtsen). My personal favourite article was the one where the author began by saying "Say no to gay marriage". Two paragraphs later he wrote "I had planned to flesh out this article with reasons to support my view, but one of my friends got a new job, so I'm going to talk about him for the rest of the article".

I personally would like to see more honesty from all politicians. They all suck, and unless we raise the bar we are going to continue to only hear crappy party lines and denials and nothing else.

They should still be answered honestly. I hate that about parliament, it is just seen as a points scoring opportunity. Shits me. Fucking boys club bullshit (yes, by the women too).

It's hard. Where were these posts when Gillard reneged on the gambling deal? When Abbott had the audacity to say he'd never supported an ETS, when he had done so and in writing not too long before? There are lies that matter, and there is this other stuff that barely rises above gossip level, and this is what gets people posting? Grinds my fucking gears.

I think you'll find that generally speaking AusGAF despises all sides of politics on a pretty consistent level.
