Beautiful chaos!
I had no idea who was doing the talking. Haha.
So whats the next big controversy that I can cause....
Oh and fuck all the haters who doubted me, I don't publish bullshit rumours. Any rumours that end up false on Vooks are from other people (like me reporting on other peoples rumours). My track record is like 99%
Oh and Dick Smith ceasing selling games? Remains to be seen if that's true or not.
pffft, I already cancelled my subscription as a VOOKS PREMIUM MEMBER

Now how will I afford all my hookers
I had no idea who was doing the talking. Haha.
I wonder if you guys should use Mumble instead and figure out how to get the overlay going.
That's what we did. All talk ftw. But we were totally drowning out the other team. Omi did have a baby not to wake up, though. And maybe Rez / Shan aren't used to ausgaf's level of, um, enthusiasm yet.
So if a vooks-breaking post by vooks gets posted, it's 100% true, or true beyond reasonable doubt?
Import them like you do games?
New album is 'drop your pants in joy' great.High on Fire's last album had such a monster guitar sound.
Yup, inaction conversations were still exactly the same as the last 2 games, but with a LOT less of the cool 'pull the trigger for paragon/renegade action mid-sentence' moments. Which sucked. The cinematic ones, yeah. Conversations? Less so.
Going the grey import route? I can see that being a great option if they can swing it without pissing off too many people and burning bridges.Oh and Dick Smith ceasing selling games? Remains to be seen if that's true or not.
lol to be honest I don't remember hearing anyone other than Kritz and Jambo rambling on incoherently. My music probably didn't help either as I was focused on working out where the hell to run so the audio side of things were neglected.Mostly I was only talking when we were on survivors, like "What are you doing back there, reptile?" "Keep moving, reptile!" "Get over the ledge of death so you don't get smoked and trapped, reptile!" and so on.
Shit, if the server can handle it I'd love to sit in and listen next time lols. I also need to figure out how to get the Mumble overlay working so that could help me also. (Though as I search now, it says I need to get the game running in OpenGL or DX9/10, as 11 isn't supported.)
It's a 15-slot server, so I'm sure that's entirely possible.
Also, if each team used a separate channel, that would have stopped one group drowning out another.
That sounds like less fun.
Also how much does the server cost? I vaguely remember chipping in money at some point in the past to keep it going but is it a monthly/yearly thing or a one off?
It is a little less fun, as not everyone is talking. It's more of a competitive atmosphere as only each team is talking within itself. It does solve cross-talk, confusion and channel saturation issues, possibly making it hard for listeners if many people are trying to talk.
I pay for the Mumble server in 6-month increments, which works out to be $53.50 annually. No-one has chipped in yet (maybe that was the BF3 server), though I don't expect anyone to.
Ah yeah that would have been it (although I never played BF3, maybe I never even chipped in in the end? This is clearly a sign we should play more. That's what we did. All talk ftw. But we were totally drowning out the other team. Omi did have a baby not to wake up, though. And maybe Rez / Shan aren't used to ausgaf's level of, um, enthusiasm yet.
Jambo why are you back in the house
team why are we split up
oh god
OH GOD
Man, L4D2 is one of my favourite multiplayer games ever
This is clearly a sign we should play more.
Just went into two dse stores. Lol, what sale?
3ds was $200, but other than that I didn't notice anything.
Once I get payed on Wed I'm going to do a massive order with like No More Heroes and House of the Dead and all the DS Castlevanias from PlayAsia.
I wonder what the practical effect of compound ordering is, more or less shipping?
I would love another copy of Timesplitters 2! Loved the shit out of that game. Would have played 100+ hours of the MP with my sister.I've got two 360 games that cannot be resold/traded in Australia due to classification issues.
One is L4D 2, UK unedited import.
The other is Deadly Premonition.
I'm thinking about offloading them and assuming someone in AusGAF is keen then first dibs ahoy. However my preference would be to trade for something, preferably one of a few gamecube games I'm yet to acquire. Timesplitters 2 comes to mind. Or if you have any of these wii games: shadows tale, kororinpa, tenchu or that rabbids go home game.
The conditions are: must be in damn good condition (as mine are), and you must be patient to wait til the first or second week of may when I get back home and finish of DP.
Any takers pm me
Should be less shipping if I remember correctly. Works like Amazon I think.Once I get payed on Wed I'm going to do a massive order with like No More Heroes and House of the Dead and all the DS Castlevanias from PlayAsia.

South Australia To Restrict Sale of MA15+ Games To Those Over 18
That's so stupid. Just make a 18+ rating damn it.

I really need to grab TS3 and get it up and running on my PC as I never did play it. TS1 was awesome in that kind of cute way that you could tell they worked their arses off to get their first ever games out for the launch of a cutting edge console at the time. TF2 was a much better experience with some of the best level design in a FPS campaign ever. You could tell they had a lot more time to play with and it is one of my favourite games of all time.I've got TS3 for the Cats on Coasters mode, but TS2 is apparently more favoured. I played TS1 when it came out, that was fun but limited.
Every time I think WA is stuck in the 1960s, South Australia steps it up a gear.

“We did a full business review and we decided to accelerate [our consolidation of gaming],” a Woolworths spokesperson said. “This isn’t about clearing out to restock again.
“There are games stores and online gaming specialists, so we’ll leave that market largely to them and just have a very core range of titles and much tighter purchasing strategies.” - Source
So, doesn't that essentially mean that SA is saying that all previous sales of MA15+ games (as rated by the Classification Board to a (loose) set of guidelines as to what is suitable for what age group) to those aged 15 and above, were mistakes?
Does this also mean that now MA15+ movies are now restricted to people aged 18 and over also? Those movies were rated by the very same Classification Board, which SA is indicating didn't do a very good job of classifying the above video games.
Beyond stupid.
That's pretty much what DSE said on Facebook on the day the sale was announced. They're not getting out of it completely, but they're only stocking a few high volume titles.
Dick Smith will continue to sell gaming bigger & better than ever! Just clearing out the warehouse
Anyone who didn't think otherwise were being silly. Why clear out EVERYTHING for basically nothing if you were just going to restock? Madness. They were done with the retail games trade.I tell you once, I tell you twice, I no tell you a second time.
All those fuckers calling me a liar = Suck, my, balls.
Nope. It IS a fair comparison. Very much captures that vibe and the controls feel very much like Goldeneye. Hell, the art design too. Also Dam level. SO GOOD.How much of the Goldeneye vibe does it capture? Unfair comparison perhaps, but worthwhile.

Weird. I know I read that somewhere on the day the sale leaked.Nope;
I grew up in that era and feel no nostalgia for it whatsoever. Games in that era were terrible. Real talk.Guys, there's a thread to vote for the best games of the 1980s, and it's looking awfully console-centric. Help fix that!

OK, this is news to me. Will buy. Does it have online co-op? DLC?

None of those games were available in Australia in the 80s.Early 80s maybe, but not late. Super Mario Bros. 3, Bionic Commando and Mega Man 2 yo.

1. Donkey Kong (Game & Watch) ; I remember getting this for Christmas one year and I can't remember when exactly, but it was the first game I ever finished. I've still got it too. Absorbing, addictive gameplay and I took it everywhere with me. I only lapped 999 once (as in, maximum of once per playthrough) because it got too fast for me) but it still counts!
2. Golden Axe ; To this day there is only one scrolling beat em up better than this (Streets of Rage 2). I have the music permanently stored in memory, in fact I'm humming it now. My brother and I used to play this all the time, and the level design is so memorable. Giant eagles, turtles backs, and the showdown with Death Adder was brilliant. My mind was blown when I figured out how to use the blue pots I had been collecting from kicking the little sack-carrying elves. Volcanos, lightning bolts and giant dragons = me like this: O_O
Gillius Thunderhead was my hero.
3. Destroyer (Amiga) ; I liked this as it was my first strategy game of any sort. You could pilot a naval warship, and switch between views of torpedos, fore and aft guns, anti aircraft guns, depth charges and radar/sonar rooms. You had the bridge and map plotter, and could undertake all sorts of missions like escort, sub-hunter, barricade etc. Very involving game with damage control teams to manage too.
4. Super Mario Bros. ; I still play it to this day. I don't think I can say much that hasn't been said already I'm afraid, it's kind of a default inclusion.
5. Super Hang On ; I preferred this to Outrun since it let you lean into the turns and had amazing music too. A solid racer with amazing visuals for the time. Played it heaps in Shenmue too when that came out.
6. Speedball ; If Speedball 2 was in the 1980s it would be #1, alas its precursor was the only one in that decade. Still loved the concept and the game was very challenging - much moreso than its sequel.
7. Pac Mania (Amiga) ; The isometric gameplay was great, visuals were ace and it still played exactly like Pac Man except for one important twist: jumping. It was a great challenge to escape from being surrounded by ghosts and then get away with it with a well timed jump. Later levels had jumping ghosts too from (hazy) memory.
8. BattleChess ; I was rubbish at it, but nothing beats a castle/rook capturing the king or queen (or maybe a knight) and turning into a great stone behemoth before beating them into the ground with only a helmet remaining. It was chess plus humour.
9. Stunt Car Racer (Amiga) ; What I remember most about this game is falling off the levels all the time (an introductory primer to later games like Wipeout, Mario Kart, F Zero etc). Polygonal looking courses, great track design with sweeping corners and MASSIVE jumps made this a ridiculously fun game. I used to abuse the turbo button though so I didnt finish many races.
10. Defender of The Crown ; Strategy game set during medieval England/Robin Hood period where you had jousting and battles to command by assigning knights across the land. My memory of it is fading now, but it was one of my most played games back in the day.
Guess who had an Amiga! We got it in 1988 I think, and it was still working until 1998. If only modern hardware was as reliable and had as many good games as good old Amiga did. RIP old friend ;_;
