I've never played gahoole (sp) but I believe you gaz, people can have similar ideas independently for sure. :)

Combat is not an issue. Pigeons aren't predators so the only issue is fleeing and evading, sneaking and eating bugs.

I picture the game in my head as real world, so that would lead naturally to a 3d engine. Another thing about flight with birds, and I get this from watching two eagles out my window every day this week, is that they tend to gain height with changing the angle of their wings to the head wind. Oncoming wind plus greater angle of exposure equals more lift. So you could have a simple wind arrow along the map indicating direction and speed with elevation.

Thermals, from a naturalistic point of view could be represented with subtle force feedback. This would indicate clear air turbulence or convection, and you just take it as it comes. No visual indicators at all, just reactions to a presented environment.

I wouldn't emphasize time constraints on a pigeon either. You get there quickly, message heeded. Get there late and you would see a reaction along those lines. You aren't taking part in the war; just a spectator to it.
He be trolling son. I give him 3/5.

Evlcookie mind synopsis.

Talented, funny and entertaining artists: Pffft, meh.

Attractive woman who was in a couple of good shows: Fuck yeah! Where she at?

Kidding man, just mucking around.

I wish I could attend a Gold Coast, Brisbane or Melbourne Supernova. All the no-names that nobody wants to see turn up at Sydney. It's the same every year with the Sydney show: Announce a bunch of people that everyone would love to see! Yeah! Oh, what's that? They've all cancelled. Again.

Mixing up your whisky and wine analogies here.
I think I made my position clear on mixing! Think of the tannins!

He be trolling son. I give him 3/5.
Ah man, in today's 7-10 scoring scale I don't even rate. Boo to you, sir.

I've got nothing to actually say to you, you just seem to currently be quite needy and are desperate for attention. Enjoy!

Afew massive updated bombas from GAMEs website. Some stuff got even further reduced.

SOCOM 4 - $19
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom - $13
DJ Hero 2 - $5
Knights Contract - $13 (360 version sold out)
Resistance 3 Survivor Edition - $48 (down from 180bucks), comes with a Backpack, a canteen, and other shit including the game.

Can anyone with SOCOM: Special Forces tell me if the game is active? Or if they made it better through patches?

Sorry Shane, you're right. It is that game. You want it, welcome to dibs once I finish it if you like :)
Thanks! I'm not sure if you were talking of entering it into the rotation or actually selling it, but I'm open to buy. I'm not in the distribution loop itself, so I'd prefer the buy option. But I don't want to take it away from anyone (and I don't really have anything to offer for said rotation, other than my ridiculous will-never-be-played backlog of 360 games that I wouldn't care if I never saw the sight of again).

So yeah, hi.

Edit: Reread, you're "giving". Will still pay though, or offer any one of my numerous 360 backlog if there's anything that might take your fancy (I'll stocktake now and PM you with anything you could be interested in which you'd somehow forgotten about).
Edit #2: Riddick, Mirror's Edge, Batman AA, Sega Rally, Darksiders, Beautiful Katamari, Dead Space and Ace Combat 6 on 360, LBP2 and Williams Pinball Classics for PS3. Unlikely you'd want *any*, but just putting them out there. Also, assuming multiples of these, doubt any single one is close to good enough for DP.

I've got nothing to actually say to you, you just seem to currently be quite needy and are desperate for attention. Enjoy!
Thank you <3
Public transport does fucked-up things to my mental state. I went and bought a shitload of shit food (Coles bake-it-yourself ham and cheese pullapart was my dinner :/) and will no doubt have trouble sleeping. Stupid restless mind :(

It's a surround sound solution for headphones. You plug it into your ps3/360 via an optical cable, set your console to 5.1/7.1, then plug in a pair of stereo headphones. The mixer samples the surround signal to stereo to emulate a surround sound environment with stereo headphones.

You can buy 7.1 surround sound wireless headphones for less than that. :/

I love Killing Floor too, we should have an AusGAF Killing Floor night as well, great co-op game.

I should be home later on Wednesday night if anyone wants to play L4D2/KF.

Killing Floor is awesome, havn't played it in years. (okay that's a lie, I played it last year, but still).

Oh hey if anyone can let me know when the new Game Informer hits the shelves...that would be good ;)
Give EBGames a call in the morning, I assume they would get it before even the newsagents. I'll let you know if my copy arrives tomorrow with the Crackdown 3 reveal!

Vince/reptile etc.: Is Deadly Premonition the really cheesy, poorly produced-yet-awesome horror game?

PS. Reptile: Couldn't see a link to that video you were twittering about?

PPS. Reptile: That Orbital vid, so sad :( But good song. Czech out the Tom Middleton remix. It's so fucking good. He also did this, which is probably my favourite track of last year. Do yerself a favour /molly
Yes, but not overly poorly produced. It is a B game, my only real problem with it was the shitty old controls. Negate the poor combat by doing the side-missions early for unlimited ammo weapons.

Don't think I tweeted a video? I did tweet you this interesting looking Kickstarter.

Not a big fan of the Orbital song but the video was good. That remix is pretty good, nice and mellow. Same with that other track.

I wouldn't emphasize time constraints on a pigeon either. You get there quickly, message heeded. Get there late and you would see a reaction along those lines. You aren't taking part in the war; just a spectator to it.
Some The Witcher 2 style consequences to not reaching your destination and having to hide out for too long would be cool. Also would need some fantastic cut-scenes to show the effect your arrival and message has in a much MUCH bigger group of people/life to make the flying seem even more isolated and truly a different world from ours, so it doesn't just feel like you are human or flying a plane or something.

Morena Baccarin? She is in TONS of stuff I though you would have seen. Stargate SG-1, that V series, Homeland, a pivotal episode of HIMYM, even 3 episodes of The OC back in the day.

Anyone know of a decent free video editing / splicing software?
Most likely not what you are talking about but I use VDub to splice 2 avi files together. Super easy and high quality.

Also Kane & Lynch 2 on 360 for $8 is super tempting. Loved it on PC.

I got the impression that SOCOM bombed hard.

Also Gametraders have a minor sale. Metroid Prime Trilogy for $50.

Just finished issue 29 - epic deadline as usual, but best issue yet I reckon. Really stoked with it! Expect it in a couple of weeks and a cover reveal shortly.

Issues usually release by mid-third week of each month.

Oh totally man, I love that you're putting good thought into the problem. I just remember us smacking our heads against the wall so much on Ga'Hoole because there was NOTHING at all like what we were doing already so we had no existing games to provide some examples of mechanics that worked (and didn't work) before. Would have saved us months of dev time wasted making and scrapping so much stuff.

We tried four or five ways of doing thermals - everything from subtle puffs of clouds that could be placed in any direction (which nobody saw and was strangely expensive to do), to powerful tubes of air that forced you up (which disorientated the player because it felt like they were getting moved around for no reason and looked weird with our third person camera that didn't handle pointing up and down that well) and eventually we settled on arcadey air tunnels that didn't look realistic at all but just boosted you horizontally around the place. It turned out thermals that sent you up just never felt like they did anything, since the camera was always pointing AHEAD of the player, not above or beneath the player.

is anyone going to GC supanova?

I AM I AM oh wait you already know that.

I was thinking about it.

Has anyone been to Brown Alley in Melbourne? Just curious what people thought of it.
Plenty of times. What are you going for? Something on Good Friday, no doubt?
FWIW, I've been there *maybe* 10 times, each time for special musical acts. Not the greatest venue but not shithouse either. Drinks am a bit pricey, though. Anything specific you wanted to know?

BTW I was the same about the Orbital track. Not great (and certainly not a patch on their older stuff) but those remixes are both quality. Middleton's been around since the early 90's and certainly shows off some awesome production skills in those tracks. Glad you like em :)

PS. Thanks for that KS. Looks tres awesome-o.

The Shut Up & Sit Down guys have just reviewed 'Fiasco', one of the best RPGs ever. I'm not kidding here. This is the type of RPG that I think will appeal to just about anyone. It's more of a party game than anything, and I think if you're after a bit of a laugh with your friends (and who doesn't fit into that category), you should totally check it out. So:

Everyone should check this review out. 'Fiasco' is amazing.

This sounds like a brilliant game. You needs friends to play though :(

Anyone know of a decent free video editing / splicing software?

AviSynth. SomethingAwful Let's Players use it and it's kind of fucking amazing. It does shit to AVIs without modifying the AVIs themselves, it's all script. Ie:

Code:
vid = AVISource('avi1.avi') +\

AVISource('avi2.avi');

return vid;

Open in VLC = bam. Open in virtualdub or virtualdub mod? Reencode into one AVI if you choose. I kinda love it.

OK, shan. I should've clicked that when you linked it. This is amazing.

Hahaha, holy fucking shit.

I just had this weird-arse dream and am gently dozing after it. I then hear a voice say "Congratulations, you have been selected to take part in our anonymous survey. Please take our 30 second questionnaire, and to say thank you, we'll give you an exclusive gift".

After the dream I just had, that was creepy as fuck.

I was of course startled and surprised, but I'm not stupid. I turn on my computer to encounter an extremely delayed pop-up. After typing and reading quite a bit about RPGs earlier in the night, I think something creepy along those lines is going to feature in one of my future games.

Just a general opinion on it. I don't go into the city heaps and was asked to go to a dubstep gig there 2 Saturdays from now. I didn't want to go if it was a shit hole or if it's a fight fest(being on king street).

Neither really, and it's more "upper" King St. Sure, opposite a strip club, but otherwise it's far tamer than the Flinders St. end. You have nothing to worry about in that sense.

But it's for "dubstep", so there could be a lot of tryhard fuckheads about. Be cautious.

lol yeah, I'm going with a group so I should be ok and they said the crowds at the dubstep gigs are generally good there, never any fights. Thanks man.

I can't believe how wonky it still is. They really do need to fix the stations and get some proper readers everywhere. Bus ones tend to be slow as shit as well.

You don't need to touch off after you get off the train if you use a daily either. It just touches you off in the morning when you touch on. If the barrier is open on my station I just walk straight through it, Touching on the bus touches me off. God this all sounds dirty.

Hopefully they can sort it out by years end.

Also, MELBGAF, Where can I shop in the city for clothing? No hipster stuff dammit! The sad thing is I will probably just enter the local surf shop and get 2 ripcurl tshirts or something, Because i'm still 18 and surf the waves like a boss.

It turned out thermals that sent you up just never felt like they did anything, since the camera was always pointing AHEAD of the player, not above or beneath the player.

I guess it ties into objectives as to whether you need to represent them or not. If you have missions and a strict time limit, or a strict path a la an escort, clock run or pursuit mission, then sure - indicating thermals and whatnot would be quite important, and it's not something that has any natural visible counterpart unless there is some low cloud or fog being disturbed by winds. Or like you get on mountains with orographic lift.

I guess the point of my idea is that if you're not racing the clock, you're not chasing anyone - you're a disinterested party in a wider world. The only thing that concerns you is survival. The impetus comes from the player themselves, as they know the consequences of delivering or not delivering messages.

Imagine this scenario: a major battle is about to happen in the morning and one person's army is marching for a dawn attack on their enemy. They can get a message out to their general and tell them to stop the attack and decide to send one out because of new information (i.e their enemy is not really their enemy and the attack going ahead will have dreadful consequences). A pigeon doesn't give a flying fuck about that. The player does though.

So in the game, you get sent out to cross a moderate mountain range (gameplay conceit so a bird would be faster than a rider on horse) in order to get the message delivered before war starts. Night-time, thunderstorms raging, serious survival hazard for the pigeon but just doable if you are lucky and quick enough. It would be like a dynamic ascent up the mountain (again, Crackdown Tower style) and if you make it over the top courtesy of updrafts, it's smooth sailing but at high speed down the valley to the target.

Maybe it's just the image in my head about it, but it's pretty cool in there. Ideal song for this in my imagination

Also, possible control options: two triggers used for grasping branches. Dual analog Katamari style for wing/flight control. Tilt controls for roll/yaw. No need to waggle or mash buttons for wings - just options: default speed, burst, or glide.

I experienced this last night. Got of with peak traffic and one of the two readers on that exit didn't work and there was at less a hundred people funneling out of this one small exit point. Didn't help that where this where everyone had to exit, regardless of ticket type. I'll draw a picture to illustrate this later when I get to work. I eventually just pushed through and went to the other platform to touch on.
