Australian 360 launch set

Not too bad i suppose, at least it's not late march....and just after Feb which is a short month and all {damage control} 100 or so days to go till launch......

The new unit, which was rolled out this week in North America, will cost Australian gamers either $499.95 for a "core" system or $649.95 for a unit bundled with additional features such as wireless capabilities, high-definition access and backward compatibility to current Xbox games.
how much have previous systems cost at launch in Australia, such as N64, PS, PS2, Xbox, GC?

The Dreamcast was $499 iirc...the N64 was around the same price, and both the Saturn and PS1 were very expensive, $700+ I think. The PS2 was at least $650 when it released I think...Xbox...can't remember...

My memory is total hazy here:

N64 - $399

Xbox - $649

PS2 - $699

PS/SS - $700+

DC - $499

GC - $299(?)

damn.... PS2 launched at $700?

anyway, this does not bode well for PS3 launch price. i don't think I could ever bring myself to pay over $500 for any console. guess I'll play the waiting game.

Thats a little chepaer than I thought it would be. Since they were close to $700 last time....I figured they'd be around $850 - $1000.

If you bought one from Ebay you would have been paying that around the time of the PS2 release. It was difficult to get one when it was first released.

Xbox 360 RRP*$649.95
Wireless Control RRP*$79.95 x3
Rechargeable battery pack and cradle RRP*$49.95
Play charge cable RRP*$34.95
Wireless networking adaptor RRP*$169.95
Advanced AV pack RRP*$39.95 (Component Cable)
Headset RRP*$49.95
Perfect Dark Zero $99
Kameo $99
Project Gotham Racing 3 $99

Grand Total for Me = $1523 = Pass on Launch

Infact im going to stick with my orginial plan and get a Xbox 1 when the 360 comes out, they'll be sh!t cheap and as I dont have one...

hopefully they will do a comp like the "every 10 minutes" thing or the canadian equivelent (can't remember what its called), because there is no way i'm paying over $400 for a console, (haven't yet).
the ps2 and xbox launched at around $750-800 where i live and within a month the xbox dropped down to about $400 i think the ps2 didn't drop as fast (being the only one on the market at the time)

Love that world wide launch.

What's Austrailia, like one or two million consoles? MS can afford to neglect them just like everyone else other than NA, EU, and JPN. Still even if they get it late it may be sooner than usual so for them it's a win maybe?

Yeah, I'm going to do something like that too...I don't have a PS2 or GC so I'll wait until both the PS3 and Revolution are out. If the Revolution isn't as cheap as Nintendo's hype suggests I'll just buy a cheap GC until they all drop in price. By then the real Zelda (TP) will be out, too...

PS2 was closer to 900 in New Zealand. I got mine about 5 days after launch and with a 1 year HP, 2 controllers and 2 games I ended up paying 1600 bucks.

for a ps2.... wtf was I thinking.

well MS is calling it a world wide launch, when it's not. The original XBOX was delayed for a ludicrous amount of time from memory though.

PS2 - $750
Xbox - $650, dropped to $450 within a month
Gamecube - $399, dropped to $329 before launch.

So it's in line with the original Xbox. Pity about the peripheral prices - I was spot on with the predictions I made, though. Guess the best thing that comes out of the wait is the larger launch lineup, because I don't have much interest in what's available for the US/EU launches - that and I start a new job in January, and have plenty of time to save.

Gamecube was announced 429, then dropped to 399 a few days before Microsoft announced their drop under 500. Then they waited a few weeks and sensibly announced the 299 but the damage had been done.

My mistake. I knew there was an $X29 in the somewhere :)

Nintendo has committed 50,000 units of NINTENDO GAMECUBE to Australia for the launch month with an estimated 200,000 for 2002.

:lol :lol Funny how things turn out.

I think PS2 was $749 at launch.

I still probably have the docket somewhere.

You are correct.

649 with all those extras isnt too bad, but i cant justify that much money for a console anymore.

Where I live the XB360 Premium Pack will cost around 484 USD -- no bundle. The games will go for almost 80 USD a piece. It ain't cheap, I'll tell you. Damn taxes.

Oooh, how did I miss this announcement. Launch date is ok I guess, better late than never...price is disappointing but expected. Pricing of accessories is total shit.

Why is there no confirmation on a Live Headset and Component cables for the Aussie Premium pack?

MS is doing a piss poor job on press releases/maintaining its website.

well let's look at the prices of accessories...

Headset: $49.95
Remote: $49.95
Hard Drive $169.95
Wireless controller $79.95
Memory card $49.95

Wireless adapter and faceplates TBA

So yeah $499 for tard and $649 for premium.

No mention of the corded controller. Apparently it's out in December (as the windows one)
