No the one I just posted, the one that clarifies the conditions of the operation quite clearly. I know you don't want to post it but for the sake of an honest discussion based on all available information you should.

Saying you are actually doing the opposite of what you said you were originally doing hours after a huge amount of public and media scrutiny is not a "clarification". It is a lie designed to save face.

You asked for the whole press release; I posted it. It was in the OP from the start.

The clarification only exists because the original was such a monumental fuckup.

Fucking hell. Post this in the OP, the whole thing. I dare you:

Clarifying statement on Operation Fortitude
28-08-2015 -
The Australian Border Force (ABF) will not be ‘stopping people at random’ in Melbourne to ‘check people’s papers’ as reported in media this morning regarding Operation Fortitude.

As stated in this morning’s press release, the ABF will be assisting in a joint operation led by Victoria Police in Melbourne this weekend.

To be clear:

This is a joint agency operation led by Victoria Police.
The ABF will assist other agencies in this operation by conducting background visa checks on individuals who are referred to us by Victoria Police and other agencies.
The ABF is but one of eight agencies assisting in this operation.
The ABF does not and will not stop people at random in the streets and does not target on the basis of race, religion, or ethnicity.
Joint operations of this type are common and were previously conducted by Departmental immigration officers.
ABF activity will occur at only two of the numerous locations where Operation Fortitude will be carried out in the Melbourne CBD this weekend.

The hard truth is the government doesn't ACTUALLY want to crack down on cheap migrant labour being used by bigger businesses until the businesses want to get rid of them.

Well yes, this doesn't make any sense either. They should be issuing fines to these places. Not ignoring them.

Quoting for new page but I have updated the OP as per your request.

Interesting though to see your thoughts on the Vic Police cancellation. They weren't too keen on how the operations were portrayed by Border Force.

I had actually edited it in before your post here. I apologise I misread it in part when you first went on about it, and have now rectified it.

Still doesn't make a lick of difference though - even the police wanted nothing to do with it.

Thank you. I think it makes a huge difference since they qualify exactly what their role is and what they will and won't be doing. It was a huge fuck up, I think everyone agrees on that. I don't think it was ever their intention to just stop random people based on ethnicicty and ask to check their papers though. In a place as diverse as Melbourne it just wouldn't be feasible.

I wish the lol smiley still existed.

My, my, my. They really are having a field day with this on TV. Was half tempted to go into the city and see it firsthand. Don't know if it's hard to believe or just sad that no one thought this was a bad idea.

As good as the cancellation was, I'm not sure if xenophobia backfiring counts as progress.

Lol, what a moron. She's the political editor of the Australian Financial Review and couldn't even get the right twitter account.

I'm sincerely worried about your comprehension skills at this point.
First lapping up the second ABF press release, now this.
She got that twitter account off their website. They linked to it.

So if you want to follow Border Force on twitter @AUBorderForce you have to get permission... Tweets are protected

If you want to follow Border Force on twitter you just type in Border Force in search and the ABF verified account comes up with over 6000 followers. It's not rocket science.

Read the replies to her tweet. Everyone is correcting her.

Oh I know! They could just have non-citizens wear yellow stars. That way they could check papers without having to bother "real" Australians. /s

Fuck Tony Abbott and everything that lying prick stands for. He could say the sky is blue and I'd still have to check outside to make sure.

So, totally missed this thread (not much internets over the weekend) but jeeesus. Glad something like this exists to point all the inconsistencies out. Hell, if you took out all the inconsistencies from their second release it would just be a header.
