Nadal will go for that 10th French title with everything he has.
It just blows my mind that in the last 3 years everybody was saying that he wasn't the favorite to win at RG, and this year it's the same.I mean he has only 1 loss there in almost 10 years, give the guy a little credit.

He's the favorite until he loses as far as I'm concerned. 9 out of 10 tries is no joke

Oh, I'd love him to get a tenth title. What a unique bit of tennis history that would be. But, really, Djokovic should have got hold of him in 2011. That was the year he was most vulnerable. That match with Federer was the worst I've seen him play in a RG final. Fed had so many chances to make a game of it and just choked them away.

That has pretty much summed Federer up for some time now, mentally he just isn't up to the challenge and hasn't been for some time.

On 13th April Djokovic will have 142 weeks (#1) and surpass Nadal.

Then it's just a matter of time when he will surpass Federer.

Murray was close, but I think he has some work to do. He's 6ft3 and, tonight, I just heard his second serves were at 130kh on average, which is really too low at this level, particularly against someone like Djokovic. Ok, you can have crazy placement, but you need to have speed too. Plus, his approach shots aren't fast enough. He gives too much time to his opponent, particularly with his forehand. These are things that can come back with confidence, which he hasn't quite fully recovered yet.

Even with these flaws, he had a real chance, which is telling. Had he been more aggressive, he maybe would've won the first two sets (and not in freaking 2 hours and a half), and the match would've been a different story.

Still, what I find amazing in Djokovic's tennis right now is that he always adjusts to his opponent level and always manages to find a way to win by being slightly better. It's less spectacular than in 2011, but it's working. It's a shame nobody really pushed him by playing really well during these two weeks.

I shot people I like more for less.
So, this has been one of the most boring AO's in years imo. Which is a bummer, because normally this is consistently the most entertaining slam. Quarters, semis and even the final weren't especially good or memorable. Matches weren't competitive or the level of play was disappointing.

Even Nadal's elimination, which are normally very entertaining matches, was oddly boring. The only match I'll remember will probably be Nishikori - Wawrinka. Beast mode Stan is something else. But even then I feel Nishikori didn't play his best.

Oh well, hopefully the next slams bring the goods.

Agreed. Pretty dull overall. Nothing like the Stan-Djokovic matches the last two years. Surprisingly, not even Stan-Djokovic :p

First time Serena and Novak have won at the same tournament. It finally happened.

At first I was thinking that that was kind of surprising, but then I realized that Djokovic has been winning a slam a year after 2011, so I guess the chances aren't that great. That's also kind of surprising. I think closest before this would've been the US Open Serena lost to Stosur?

Thing is, it's exactly the same stuff he's needed to do his entire career. People have been on him about his second serve since 2008; there was never any adjustment even in the Lendl years. I think you probably have to accept that part of his game is too ingrained now, and focus on the stuff which he has conquered in the past (the mental aspect) that just doesn't seem to be there at the moment. I mean, in the first set he was at 4-2, then double faults and has 3 UEs in a row, loses the set. Similar story in the second. In alternate worlds, without those concentration lapses, he could have won something like 6-3, 7-6, 6-4. Even supposing that those were unavoidable, at the very least getting rid of the negative mood that makes him give up the entire rest of the set is unacceptable.

He would need more than double of that number.

When I decided to go to bed, it was 3-3 in the 3rd set with Djokovic serving. I can't believe Djokovic won 9 straight games to win the match! Happy for him, his wife, and his newborn. Well deserved!

RG is the most physically demanding slam and Rafa's body has been hanging together for some time. I have no doubt he'll win RG again, but 5 more titles is pushing it.

The biggest reason for him continuing to win it is the lack of elite clay court opposition. Djokovic doesn't adapt as well as he might. Murray is weakest on it. Wawa is better suited to hard. The big hitters are fodder for Rafa unless they go nuclear (e.g. Soderling). Ferrer (lol) is about the best there is. None of the competitive new blood stands out as suited to clay, though they might well adapt to it in time.

We need a Moya/Ferrero/Kuerten to come along and take the game to him as a natural clay courter.

Woke up this morning and was unsurprised to see Djokovic win. Had the replay of the match on in the background, and man were those first two sets an exciting ride. Long rallies and flashes of brilliance at times, and then all of a sudden Murray would inexplicably waste away a golden opportunity that made me want to bang my head against a wall. All in all, the MVP of the night was Kim Sears and that t-shirt XD Can't wait for the French and Novak's chase for the career slam.

I didn't get to see Kim and her shirt. She reminds me of a cocker spaniel.

There's no doubt Rafa is the favorite at RG for at least the next five years of not more. There is nobody who can challenge him. The U.S. Open is his most physically demanding slam. Borna Coric better develop fast if Rafa haters want any hope of preventing him from realizing his dreams.

Disappointed that Murray couldn't get the job done, but not very surprised. He's a fragile person on the tennis court and Djokovic played him to perfection (after Novak's troubles, Murray put the foot off the throat and went easy on him).

Hope Rafa gets his form back in time for the French Open and he retains his crown as the king of clay.

Think about it. Djokovic is the best player this tournament has ever seen. And he won't stop at 5 titles, he will get at least 6 or even 7.

I hope he manages to win the US Open a 2nd time and RG too. Would be awesome to have 2 career slams. 6-7xAO, 2xW, 2xUO, 2xRG, 12-13 GS titles, that should be possible by the end of his career.

This is truly a Golden Era of men's tennis (I sound like Chris McKendry, lol). 3 of the top 4 guys hold or share the record (open era) for most titles at all 4 slams

Australian Open
Djokovic: 5

Roland Garros
Nadal: 9

Wimbledon
Federer: 7 (shares record with Sampras)

U.S. Open
Federer: 5 (shares record with Connors & Sampras)

Kozlov will be an American clay specialist in a few years. He has a better feel for the ball than Donald Young, and plays smarter shots.

I would be really surprised if Nadal's body holds out for several more years. I know he's only 28, but the injuries add up more and more every year.

Did you guys see this?

Edit: Oops looks like that site is banned on Neogaf.

"The third set was frustrating because I got a bit distracted when he fell on the ground after a couple of shots. It appeared that he was cramping and then I let that distract me a little bit," said Murray, who lost to Djokovic in the 2011 and 2013 finals and to Roger Federer in 2010.

Murray said he hoped Djokovic had not been exaggerating the extent of his problems, adding: " He obviously looked like he was in quite a bad way at the beginning of the third set and came back unbelievably at the end of that set. Then the way he was hitting the ball in the fourth and moving was impressive.
"I'm frustrated at myself for letting that bother me at the beginning of the third set, because I was playing well, I had good momentum, and then just dropped off for like 10 minutes and it got away from me."

Lol those quotes can't be real. Murray has no place to criticize another player for possibly exaggerating an injury.

It absolutely is.

"Andy Murray blamed Novak Djokovic's physical problems in their Australian Open final on Sunday for throwing him off his game but that could hardly explain the meltdown that saw the Scot lose 12 of the last 13 games."

Rich coming from friggin' Murray. lmao.

Murray pls. When Novak "fell to the ground", he was clearly just goofing around.

Here's Tsonga and Djokovic lying face down in their SF match at Wimbledon a few years ago:

Maybe they're dead?

Murray pls
