Test drove a 2013 C63 AMG.

What a noise. What a bark. My God. Handles well too. And God it's quick.

Also, transmission isn't as slow as people claim it is. It's actually quite fine.

Fun! Thinking of picking it up? I think it's a great little car, used Black Series version is overpriced though (but also fun).

Was just at the same gas station I spotted the BMW 116i at...and I saw a blue Range SVR. I've seen this car driving around town before a month ago and took a pic:

4rxI9s3.jpg

It was the owner's wife filling it up though. What a smokin car in person. Holy sheet. And it's pretty damn low. And the blue looks beautiful. She was an older Asian lady, probably 50s. I said hello to her and told her I loved the car. Hahaha. She probably thought I was crazy.

Fun! Thinking of picking it up? I think it's a great little car. used Black Series version is overpriced though (but also fun).

I have entertained the idea, but no. But they want too much for it: $52k with 35K miles on it. Warranty will run out in 1 year of driving for me. And it's not worth more than $45K. It also wasn't certified. And they use AutoTrader as a trade-in appraiser and it said my M56S is worth only $32K (a car like mine, if you can even find it, sells for ~$44K used). So no way I'm letting them make $12K profit on the trade, because my car is showroom mint - down to the clearcoat being swirl free for a black car. Tires are new and expensive. All maintenance is done every 3-5K miles. Brakes are over 60%.

With their car, it had a huge series of scrapes on the corner of the rear bumper where the paint is gone. Otherwise, the rest of the body looked good. But I also don't know how well the previous owner took care of the car. And when at a slow speed or a complete stop, changing from 2nd to 1st makes a HARSH jolt, which was very concerning to me. It looks like a common issue with the car, and I don't like that at all. A Benz should not be doing that and it's indication that an eventual valve body failure is approaching. A jolt while moving 10MPH I could understand...but at 0 and 3MPH? Unacceptable.

Congrats on the WRX!

I know it's too early to learn, but I think rev-matching is worth mentioning simply because you kinda brought it up lol. I'd explain but I feel a YouTube video might be better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5TEUv__2m4

Since we're on the subject of driving stick, here's the legendary Ayrton Senna driving an NSX with fncking loafers on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUVkVB3SUf4

What a fantastic video. Walk around the car, insect it, then drive it like a madman so casually. And that wonderful Honda engine sound. Classic.

Congrats on the WRX and selecting the manual.

I own a 2015 WRX and the manual doesn't have a great "feel" compared to other sports cars, especially when changing from 1st to 2nd. I still find it a little hard to drive it smooth considering the boost comes on so early (2,000 rpm) and the ECU holds the revs when changing from 1st to 2nd. It's still a fantastic car and makes me giggle every now and then.

Anyway, you'll get used to it in no time. I learnt in a RX8 and made a fool of myself plenty of times. Just keep at it!

Also, prices for the 2016 Carrera just came out in Australia. Such a large difference to you guys in the states.

I'm still watching the BNR34 prices, but I haven't seen any good auctions in my price range ($45K).
They've been going up in price here. Supply is drying up and the best ones are asking over 100k now but not sure if anyone's paying that. Hardly any for sale below 50k and not any pretty good ones.

So cool.

That's awesome, but man you can't even "own" the car only the right to drive it for two years for $3 million USD. But DAT downforce tho. Almost generates F1 racecar level downforce god its so technically impressive on paper its a car engineering nerds wet dream.

Nah, Porsche is on fire right now and they're just capitalizing on it.

They've sold more cars in the US in May 2015 than any month in their entire history. The Macan is selling way past its projections. Cayenne and Macan make up 57% of Porsche sales right now.

They have highly reviewed, over demand of their current halo cars (918 Spyder, GT3 RS, GT4).

Brand wise they're doing well too. They scored the highest roadtest over all other brands for Consumer Reports. JD Power ranked them #1 in luxury brands, APEAL (some study) and quality this year.

"Vintage" air-cooled Porsche modding is heavily in the spot light with Walker, Singer, Sharkwerks and others.

In racing Porsche took 1,2 and 3 LeMans unseating Audi's 4 (5?) year winning streak.

They can't keep going like this forever, but strike while the iron is hot I say. Maybe turbo-charging will be their downfall? I dunno. But Porsche is way on ahead others right now.

I'm totally not a fanboy or anything...

not really
PCM and PASM are standard now (nonS and S)
take that into consideration and you get...what?
exactly, 20 hp more for a few bucks more.

on the S it's not as good because the old S already had the PASM

Wow, the new Carrera S seems like it's gonna offer proper supercar performance. 0-60 in 3.9s and 191mph top speed. Wonder how crazy the new Turbo is going to be.

Also, it will be interesting to see if the base Carrera will be a better bargain considering it has the same 3.0 TT. Maybe a good platform for modding?

I bet folks will be modding the crap out of all the models. Base 911 is basically a detuned S for 20k less.

Exciting times ahead.

Damn. Came in here to post the same thing. 370HP @ 3150lbs. 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and a bunch of formerly optional equipment is now standard. The base Carrera will be the car to get and modify, because the tuners will be ALL OVER this platform within months. For $90K that certainly piques my interest. But I'd mod the hell out of it.

I need to move wherever you are.

It's all flat roads here in Texas and it's somewhat fun, but I think some twisty's would increase my QOL easily.

Anybody know of somebody hiring a fresh out of college broadcaster? I prefer to do radio since my face is ugly, but I can do TV as well lol.

Yeah, think this new generation of cars will make the 997 and maybe even 991 turbo come down in price a bit. N/A motors most likely going to hold their value going forward.

If you want to mod, 2016 base 911 might be a great used bargain in a couple of years.

I like the cosmetic changes made to the refreshed 911. How I like the turbo stuff remains to be seen.

I'd be very hesitant to mess with modding the turbo motor. Wait and see, at least. There are going to be a lot of voided warranties. Let the shops and the early adopters take the risks.

F-Type R has been the goal with the sale of my company, but the Merc GTS may end up the victor. Right now, no car purchases until I sell my current home and move into my new one being built now. Priorities first.

If my sale isn't bound to happen in the immediate future, I'll get something like an M4 to hold me over.

Any AutoGAF bros picking up Forza 6? Seems to be getting great reviews. I'll be getting early access in 2 days.

True. One of the things to keep in mind is that the ECU decryption for the latest Porsche's has yet to be cracked, so it will be a rocky start to tuning the turbo motors. If you want a custom tune at the moment, it costs ~$5K.

AMG GTS is hot. I'd definitely take that over an F Type R.

But you can get some smoking deals on used F Types so it would come down to whether you're willing to spend so much more on the Benz.

Yeah, that's the thing. I'm not sure if I want a new F-Type R anymore, because they're AWD. I'd have to drive one and see, though. Plus with the F-Type being 30K cheaper than a GTS, that's a huge savings. And I love Jags. On the other hand, the AMG GT can be had for about the same as an F-Type R and I'm sure with a mild ECU tune I can have it making the same power as a GTS.

Decisions...

When are you thinking of getting the AMG GTS? It's got insane mark up right now. Used ones are going for over new MSRP. lol

Have you test driven the F-Type R? It's a hooligan of a car, maybe that's what you want though.

I think we may have gone over this, but yeah drove the F-Type R numerous times. It's batshit crazy and that's why I love it.

Either car would be purchased after the sale of my company, whenever that happens.

After 6,5 months of waiting here in germany I could pick up my Mustang GT yesterday. This car is absolutely amazing. I really want to drive every free minute at the moment, never had this feeling in any other car before.

It's crazy how many people stare at your car. Other drives barely focus on the road in front of them if you are next to them.

I drove the current Golf GTI with Performance Package for 1,5 years and the Mustang is superior in every way I can think of. The car in DIB is so beatiful, it really looks like it's way more expensive. It drives really good, it's stiff and direct and the feel of the clutch is perfect to me. And the sound is just out of this world compared to all that 4cyl turbos here.

3uggV8R.jpg

What year is that, 2015 or 2016? I actually came into the thread to see if there were any Mustang owners here, lol. I'm considering the 2016 Mustang GT in that exact color. Since I can pretty much only get one car and it has to be a daily driver, that gives me a little bit of pause versus something like the 2016 STI or the Focus RS. I've never owned a RWD car, and only test-drove them, so winter scares me.

Well, I've done something a little crazy.. I had a perfectly drivable, low mileage Honda accord and I traded it in towards a 2016 Subaru WRX.

The difference in feel between the two cars is really staggering and the change from Automatic to Manual is quite jarring.

Pictures of the new baby -

Over the next few weeks I'll be driving as much as my nerves will allow (and as much as work dictates) to get used to driving the new car.

I get the impression that learning manual is just one of those things you have to do through practice, but does anyone have any pointers for a newbie?

Congrats! I did the same thing, bought a 2013 WRX and learned to drive manual on it. People have already given good advice, but I will say that the WRX isn't the easiest stick to drive. You actually don't get much torque down low so you have to be a bit careful with your clutch. I stalled a ton in my first week. Now granted I haven't driven the 2015/2016 so take what I say with a grain of salt. But yeah, just practice, practice, practice. The biggest thing is making sure you're in the right gear for what you want to do. Downshift (and preferably rev-match) for turns and to pass. When you're in the right gear the throttle response is perfect and you don't have the "lag" like in an auto or CVT.

After two years of driving a manual 95% of the time it's second nature for me. I just had a week's training in the DC suburbs and navigating that crazy traffic was nothing at all. So don't sweat stalling out when you start or looking silly at traffic lights, lol.

Hey Gaf, was wondering what you guys think about the 2011 VW Jetta TDI? Found a guy who is selling his for $3,500. Test drove it earlier and it feels pretty good. Has about 130,000 miles on it.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yeah, no way. It's either been in a serious accident, has some ridiculous problems, or a combination of both. VW diesels hold their value quite well so that's an automatic red flag.

I spoke with the guy and got a carfax report. Everything is pretty much good to go. There were no serious problems with it, has a clean history, this guy is wealthy and he just wants to get rid of it.

Regardless of the car's history, how is the 2011 Jetta TDI? or newer TDIs in general? Any personal anecdotes?

Is it under warranty? If not I wouldn't buy it. This is just my experience, but I wouldn't buy a VW without one. I used to work at a VW dealer, and some of those cars had a lot of problems. Although 2011 is a bit newer than ones I have experience with.

Anyone can give som advice on super mini's ? considering getting a KIA rio but the only other car i've owned was a fiat punto from mid 90s and this was about 6 years ago (and I only had it for 6 months) so while I've tried to research, it's often just a back and forth between some people who like a brand and some who hates it.

Ah, the Fiat Punto - Italian workhouse. Not very good - I had one in 2000, and treated it as an Italian person would. It repeatedly fell apart.

Kia's are fine - not exciting, but will do a good job for you. Good dealers by all accounts, and that warranty too...

I have a friend who's been running a Mazda 2 for about 5 years, and has nothing bad to say about it at all.

Ford Fiesta and VAG group (Polo / Fabia / CityGo / Fox perhaps) are also all highly regarded. With a but more money, A1 and Mini are the high end options. But it will come down to personal preference (and funds too).

But steer clear of any Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat or Alfa...

That's either a scam or the car has a major flaw. At the bare minimum have it inspected and make sure the VIN on the car matches the VIN on the title.

All this car porn, and I have my mind firmly set on a compact sedan.

Honda's gonna reveal the '16 Civic sedan next week, but I fear it's going to have a CVT, which will suck. The '16 Chevy Cruze looks good AND it has six forward gears.
