Kevin Cirugeda/Yuyucow has another good article out on ANN: 10 Moments of Spectacular Animation from 2015.

My main takeaway from this article is that I need to watch Kyoukai no Kanata.

Glad to see that the Shirobako scene was acknowledged to not be that visually impressive per se. Thought it was my incapability to appreciate anything other than flashy action scenes striking yet again. Also good to see Rho Aias scene made the cut.

Like I said a couple pages ago, that's part of what made me like this series so much. I'm fine with long talks as long as their handled properly, and this show certainly manages to do that well.

By the way, are there any other similar series you guys would recommend where there's lots of dialogue while still being interesting to watch? Off the top of my head, I only remember Moryou no Hako and Monogatari as shows I've watched that fit that criteria.

Still traveling for work but finally caught up with this week's episodes.

Heavy Object 10

Not much going on in this episode aside from some fanservice and a bit of weapons porn. I like that they're setting something up with the other Object pilot (and that there's male pilots) but the show hasn't really shown a lot of overall story yet. I'm hoping that they do that in the next few episodes to transition into the second half as I think it's slated for 24 eps.

Lots of info this episode and setting up the big fight next episode. I'm pretty interested in where the story is going in the second season though as Ser Veresta's importance seems to be going up in the story. Claudia has such a rough price to pay to use her Ogre Lux though. Like damn, seeing yourself die over 1200 times and each one different has to take a toll on you. The more interesting thing is that she has something to achieve that allows her to bear that kind of weight. I wonder what that is. I also wonder what the price on the Ser Veresta could be.

This show...It goes from great moments to spiraling the toilet. This episode was going down the toilet up until the setup for the next episode. But that only barely saved it.

Interrogating Ikki about his relationship with Stella is seriously contrived. It's so unnecessary and stupid. It doesn't do anything for their relationship other than make Stella look even worse. It then leads into Ikki meeting into his father and having this really silly revelation and reaction that's totally out of character up. What his father said shouldn't have changed anything at all because Ikki's growth up until that point should have let him shrug it off. It's all so slipshod. This episode should have just been contrasting Toka and Ikki to setup the next episode.

The next fight needs to be something. Thankfully, they've been at least delivering on that front.

Seraph of the End S2 10

I know DTL was made in love with this episode.

Honestly, it was kind of a dumb one mostly because both Mika and Yu are terrible characters. Mika has no sense of reality anymore and Yu is just dumb as fuck, lol. The more I watch this show, the more I realize that it's good in spite of its main protagonists.

Gundam IBO 11

Great episode again. I really liked that we avoided the death flags and had character growth for Akihiro and the group. We even got action too! I really hope they managed to capture the Gusion for Akihiro or so, lol. Seeing the Turbine pilots coming to help was great too. Gonna be awesome to see them fight together next episode, hopefully.

Haly said it was babbies first space opera and I agree, but I almost appreciate that because at least in TV, there are so few options out there that beggars can't be choosers.

Oh it's terrible, since they screwed up and put out 4 episodes, I'm stuck waiting a month for the next new one. But I'm engaged enough in the pulpiness of the story that I want to find out what happens next.

I finally finiahsed this turd on lunch earlier. I mean, it did have a couple random funny parts, but the forced drama and poor story didn't help it. Some of the faces, like the above, were funny though. In the end, it was a weak love tri-angle story with that felt meh throughout. I will say, even though very melodramatic, I did appreciate the sad dialog in Chapter. 11 and the fact that the MC, just kept being a douche at that point. Way to go mr. studly...

Im in the US, and from before they licensed it there was no way to get it on disc, since whoever licensed it here in the US stopped it after one or two sets in 2009. Siren only got it in 2013.

Tatami Galaxy is the obvious thing that springs to mind, although you've probably already seen that. Shounen Hollywood is also a dialogue-heavy show in which the writing is legitimately good and interesting, and the visuals aren't half-bad either.

I brought up the date of Nishi-Ogikubo's release to Yuyucow on Twitter, and he said he decided that December 2014 was good enough to list it. It's a good enough short that I don't really mind it getting more exposure. At the end of the article you can see that he brought up the subject of non-TV anime:

And of course this has all been mostly focused on TV productions since the availability of OVA and movies in the west isn't always the best, but those larger productions are logically full of notable scenes as well! From the flashy finale of Little Witch Academia 2 with the Yoshinari School of effects in full display, to a lot more grounded scenes like Toshiyuki Inoue's work on Miss Hokusai, there's plenty of work outside of TV series I've loved this year. Even a film I haven't actually had the chance to see yet like Boruto has won me over thanks to this spectacular preview!

Come on...even if they are wanting to stick within the realm of populist stuff there have to be better examples of character acting in animation this year.

The selection of that Shirobako scene is mainly predicated on it being a case of animation enhancing the emotional impact of that scene within the narrative, rather than it being viewed from an abstract technical point of view. He also chose two examples from Sound Euphonium, if you're looking for more representation of character animation as opposed to action.

It's releasing in theaters, not on TV. But, especially since they're going for 3 roughtly hour-long movies, it could be an OVA-type situation like Gundam the Origin where the BDs get released relatively soon after the theatrical release.

It's Aniplex - their previous reference point for stuff like this is probably Kara no Kyoukai, which was about a six-month window between the theatrical runs and the home releases.

Who knows with Shaft, though - even after all these years in production, what's a betting that they end up having to do corrections for the home release anyway?

Yeah that seems to make sense. I do remember the idea of some uniformity being put in place for future threads but no movement has been seen on that front and we're also in that weird stage that exists at the end of one season and the start of another.
