Avowed art director calls Elon Musk a "sad little shit" over Avowed gender pronoun complaints, indicates more of the same in final product

You can find the same for almost all studios, shall we make a tour?

Woke virus is fucking ironic, the opposite is brain worms. Both extremes of each sides are being fucking silly. And from someone outside the US it's again as silly as watching the elections and seeing you all tearing yourself apart.

The art director is stupid as fuck though, how do you not know by now to not participate publicly when you work for a company.

I really hope that Obsidian’s game is a quality one and that the quality speaks for itself, but I’m starting to get the feeling that it sadly may not the game I was initially excited for.

What are “Xbox marching orders”? I’m playing my PS5 right now. Also please call out all of the shills.
I'm so sorry to interrupt your playsession on your PS5. You can type "marching orders" into your preferred search engine if you'd like to know more.

Is SBI involved with Avowed?

I’m not deranged, so I don’t consider some pronouns on a menu to be “woke virus”.

Either way if SBI is involved then I’ll do the same thing I said in the post that he cropped to fit his narrative, I’ll try it on GamePass.
Why would you even play a woke game on Game Pass?

Why would you support such developers by playing their game, increasing their revenue and bonuses, and boosting engagement for a game that clearly goes against your values?

Elon is an utter fucking tool some of the time. That doesn't excuse or justify potentially destroying your fucking company just because you have no self control or self preservation instinct.
Yet devs continue to do it. I have absolutely no idea why. I feel like these people should be fired, or at least receive some kind of warning. I mean, you're tarnishing the brand and project. You'd think they'd know better.

Just super dumb to poke this particular bear no matter how you feel about the topic itself.
Exactly! It just feels like a cry for attention from the dev. Just not a good thing to touch at anytime. ESPECIALLY before your game's release.

Most large companies have a fairly strict social media policy. Somehow gaming industry and entertainment in general seems to be exempt.

It's just kind of depressing how unprofessional game devs are. Outside of like.. some sports stars, or comedians or actors.. vast majority of people with jobs don't go online acting like this while representing their companies.

Artists/writers have taken over a lot of the industry it seems like, and it's like the flunkies who wouldn't be able to make it writing stories or doing art anywhere else but they still have that prima donna attitude.

Eh, I think Avowed will be fine. I don't quite agree with the woke thing ruining art.

It is all about the writing. You have not preach this stuff. That is why Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk did so well.

Nice try, but I’m not skipping Avowed because of something the art director said.

I think some people want this to be the next Veilgard.

I hate Elon. He is stupid and gets all the praise rather than engineers.
But lol he is right here.

Who is this game for? Make game for gamers. Make it cool and all that.
Gears sold great because it was super fun dude bro trilogy that was short, well done and very fun.

And this is over budgeted game for a tiny minority of population.
Man, I sure hope E-Day is free of this kind of bullshit, the reveal trailer did look indeed like a return to form.

You see that Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic : Sith Lords behind those devs? NONE of them contributed to making that game.

As a Sr Talent Acquisition Specialist, this is my issue. I'm fascinated by how many employees don't understand how unprofessional this comes across on a public platform and the potential liability it can have on a product or the company itself.

To be fair, you can't blame a company for trying to do social media, while attempting to ask for kindness. Honestly, looking at the comments it's wild not seeing anyone mention "woke" or something similar. It was just 5 years ago. Instead everyone is mentioning bad business practices, lol.

Exactly, and they should! Especially AAA studios. I've worked for studios that weren't AS big as Obsidian, and they had stricter policies in place, and this was several years ago.

I agree. I mean, I get everyone "wants to be themselves", but you still have to know a time and place.

It definitely feels that way. No matter the topic, I'm really over the whole "diva" approach. It just comes off as shitty and ignorant.

That matters a lot indeed, but imo it's fine to not buy a game that uses the medium to push the developer's political agendas.

I know, it's a lot to take away from "just" having some pronouns on the character screen but, when the studio hides the character creator under NDA and has their art director having a melty on social media then, imo, it's pretty clear what their priorities are. And it's not making a fun videogame.

One thing that kind of annoys me is the idea that games should be all inclusive.
I just don't get why some people need to feel included or represented in media. Why? Is it insecurity?

I had a lot of fun watching, for example, Squid Game. None of the chatacters were nerdy spanish dudes with beard and glasses and I couldn't give less of a shit about it.

I do actually think "wokeness" ruins writing, in the sense that the woke ideology (I hate using this terminology) doesn't allow for individuals or groups to have legitimate conflicting interests. Every "conflict" is just a hurt or insecure individual who needs to be healed, and the only means of healing is via the power of friendship.

Baldur's Gate, despite being as "woke-friendly" as just about any game I can think of, is full of interesting, legitimate conflict. I don't think you can tell a compelling story without such conflict.

Returning to the topic, I'm cautiously optimistic that Obsidian will release a game free of garbage tier Veilguard writing.

SBI isn’t involved 🤷‍♂️
What do you have against SBI, they made a masterpiece with Suicide Squad which deserved way more credit and less hate!

One thing that kind of annoys me is the idea that games should be all inclusive. It tends to homogenize the story.

You start having these token characters popping up in the story.
That's what happens the game is pure evil and made from the pits of hell instead of from humans.

Hollywood has the same problem. Everything now is perfectly diverse in a forced way that makes shows and movies seem artificial. I know it when I see it and it takes me out of the entertainment.

I think Hollywood has restrictions on movies that are eligible for Oscars now. Like you have to meet some diversity quota. Western culture is FUBAR'd.

There is absolutely nothing wrong for the studio celebrating women's day. What I meant was the insecurity that rooted deeply inside them and they had to make a statement like that.

Great to see devs standing up to Elon musk's attempt to censor games. Devs should be allowed to make games they way they want to make them and not have cancel culture leaders like Elon Musk attack them.

Games are an art and should not be censored in any way by anyone.

Personal opinion, but I think there's a time and place for everything. It has to make sense first and foremost.

Idiots complained that there was no exclusivity in Black Myth Wukong. Of course! How odd it would have looked if there were purple-haired feminine guys in the game. It had Asian people in it because it made sense.

But those same Asian people wouldn't have made sense in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

We'll have organic diversity and inclusion the more games we get from different parts of the world and/or exploring different cultures. Like Ghost of Tsushima didn't have white/black people as the game was based on Japan.

The problem, as you mentioned, is that they want to make one product, based on one setting, and have everybody a part of it, which is just inorganic and odd.

P.S. And this is coming from me who belongs to a group that is almost never included in games or Hollywood media.

BG3 and Cyberpunk's woke meter were also not that high compared to some of the other woke shits out there. The much better writing in BG3 also helps where most other woke shits tend to have way worse writing. And the fact that BG3 had the huge DnD lore with many many choices which definitely attracted a lot of players.

It's his game and it us just a character selection screen. I hate the whole cancel culture and ultra PC thing as well but many anti woke people are just as nuts in the other direction.

It is his game and he can take it in the direction he wants.

There you go little buddy, no need for confusion.
I think this non-response will keep us on different pages. Can you please answer my question more directly? Thanks.

Is your problem with woke DEI games or just SBI in particular?

Just so I'm not confused, you are onboard with woke games if another DEI company (other than SBI) is involved? Is that correct?

Man, if we found one person out of all companies that think a bit weird, on the furry side, LGBT or whatever tag we want to find, then we stop consuming anything.

I'll wait to see the character creation with my own eyes. For all we know, the guy might be sarcastic as the default is maybe a white male. But if the dialogues, script, quests, etc, are not woke, no agenda, I really don't give a shit. If it becomes Veilguard, you'll be on the front row of me throwing the game under the bus.

Why are some of you so invested in a troll war?

The only thing that matters is the quality of the games.

Devs are really invested in putting their 1% modern world views and social preferences/commentary in their games ... if its important to them it should not be dismissed by their consumers .... some gamers dont care and thats fine, others actually like and thats fine also.. and others who dont share the same sentiments of the devs dont want to see their games flooded with social commentary .... so I think all stances are valid.

Saying we should not care when the devs clearly did is not fair.
