Porn is very run of the mill. I'd wager that Sonic has much more weird art that would belong in the "crazy" category.

The thing I've noticed, though, is a lot of MLP stuff is decent (in form, not content at least)...like, legitimate artists drew them. It seems more purposeful.
Sonic art, on the other hand, is generally really awkward and seems like it was made by autistics or just kids exploring their sexuality and such through a franchise they like. Most of Sonic art is admittedly just kids being kids.

It seems to be a thing within the community. It's present in their fan fiction too.

That's actually a pretty kickin' design as far as ponymorphs go. Better than the slapdash template-style stuff at least.
