Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Anyone familiar with the next game coming up? Iji?

One of the first really good action platformer RPGs back from before indies went mainstream. Full of rudimentary programmer art, but has a really neat story (that the speedrun will mostly gloss over) and great level design and options. A little bit like Undertale in the differences between pacifist/genocide run options and changing events in the story.

Do all Hotline runners have this snark going?

I can't say I enjoy when the runners do the "false information" schtick for comedy at these things. Most people aren't speedrunners who know when it's an attempt at a joke.

I'm cracking up at the stream but I see I may be the only one. :P

He died twice and he said he didn't intend to die at all, so the run is already ruined though.

Yeah I'm fucking done with this, muted the stream.

All these edgy insider jokes are pissing me off.

His switch is constantly flipped to sarcasm. That isn't the same thing as cracking jokes and being charismatic or good on the mic. The shtick got old fast.

I love these shorter, quicker speedruns coming up. For some reason I have trouble paying attention to the 2 hour plus runs. Really wanted to watch all of KH 1.5 but I have a hard time giving all my attention for that long to watch it live.

Just want to notice how that group of people who are probably among the best in the world at HM still think Hotline 2 sucks so I basically don't want to hear the "you just have to git gud" excuse ever again

Hotline Miami 1 is still so good. Would like to see a speedrun of Hotline Miami 2 in comparison.

HM2 is not only a worse game than HM1 but it's also infamously less speedrun-friendly due to the massive levels, infrequent checkpoints, and very frequent RNG. A quote from a speedrunner on another forum:

I mean there are some speedrunner specific problems, but a lot of the complaints are basic things that have been discussed here before.

Random weapons making some stages easier/harder.
Random enemy patterns making the game hard to route.
Off-screen nature of the game making it hard to adapt to, even midrun.
Sorting to the correct enemy is a chore.
Inconsistency of Ash/Alex.

Just a few of the problems.

For example Hard News is one of the worst levels to run because of random weapons and how open the layout is, even though it's only the third level. Very open, very unpredictable, and there's a fast route that you have to luck into to even attempt.
