these gay people in the movie are so agreeable to be put in the same category as adulteries, liars, and thieves.

"that makes sense, yeah" "that makes a lot of sense actually" --the homosexuals on being told that they're like liars and thieves.

they're now thanking this guy for being so kind and understanding for telling them to turn from their ways or they'll go to hell.

I don't think I could watch this without my eyes rolling out of my head.

What a disgusting piece of propaganda.

OH MY GOD

this guy just tried to rob the store.

1: he didn't cover up his face so the cameras caught him
2: the cashier said that no one pays in cash anymore
3: this guy in the car witnessing it called 911 and apparently immediately hung up to text about it

friendly youtube guy: do you think you will go to heaven or hell when you die?

homosexual: if i don't repent of my homosexuality, i will go to hell

Man. Alot of people with very little knowledge passing judgement and making blanket generalisations on things they either don't know anything about, or simply don't like.

What the hell happened to this place? Sad.

I'm skipping through that comedy video (so some of my interpretations of the story might be wrong since I'm just randomly selectively quoting, kind of like Christians do with the Bible, I guess), and it actually makes pretty good arguments against the angry vindicative 'Christian' god that some of these people believe in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=17m12
I love how the Christian guy's response to that is to ignore it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=21m26
I'm actually surprised the video didn't directly overtly go 'IT'S YOUR FAULT FOR BEING A SINNER' that your dying brother has cancer. What did he do to deserve this? Have a sister that believes in gay marriage, that's what lol

At some point there is a holdup and a hostage situation and one of the guys in the shop saves the day! Wheee!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=26m35
Thank you Christian god for giving him the courage and strength to do that!

So the girl from before thanks god for doing that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=27m18
(and starts questioning her faith in a loving god, and starts converting that belief into a gay-hating god... or something?)

So this guy (SINNER) starts questioning god
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=35m35
What about the shellfish -->>>>> ABORT ABORT DIVERT ATTENTION TO PROPAGANDA PAMPHLET

At some point, god's intervention occurs in the form of an angry screaming man who saves her life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=46m15

So the next thing that happens in the story is the logical conclusion to that random guy saving her life from a train
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=47m5
God often gives people a second chance!

I'm not even kidding, the angry screaming guy is actually an analogy of a friendly Christian trying to save the gays from themselves.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbPu2rtmDbY#t=48m33

....... so yeah

Are you referring to religion extremists passing judgement on the gays?

Okay, not trying to pile on. But what exactly do you mean?

People who use their religion to discriminate and make themselves feel better about their discrimination are trash. Point blank. I realize that not all Christians are like this. But regarding the topic at hand, this is very clearly what they're about. They are assholes who use their religion to justify their prejudice, plain and simple. To say you love me but I'm still going to burn in eternal fire for who I am is not an acceptable opinion in modern society. So again, what is the issue?

Ok fine, let's do this thing...

So what are you condemning exactly? The reactions of posters towards the business, towards the stunt, or towards the video? Because we can judge each of things individually on their own merits and still decry each ad every one from a pretty solid standpoint.

It's easiest to do so for the couple: they had their day in court, and lost. Maybe if they had won, one could argue that internet vitriol against them was unfounded because they had done nothing wrong. But legally, they lost. So are you against the judicial authority of the United States as a whole(in which case I assume you're opposed to the death penalty and would like amnesty for drug offenders), or is it just when it's Christians who are found guilty that you object to(in which case, your position is laughable and it'd be highly hypocritical for you to condemn anyone here)?

Reactions towards the stunt are perhaps a little harder to gauge properly, as one could make the argument that they truly mean well and did not do this as a publicity stunt. However, given the timing of what they did(see the article: gay groups were about to meet with sympathetic Christian organizations), who they sent it to(also article), the amount this couple received from donations, their past history(see article posted on page 2),and the nature of the video itself(see below for that argument), myself and many others feel that their intent is...hazy at best.

Which leads us to the movie itself. Even the title of the film, "Audacity," shows that the film is not in fact aimed at gay audiences with the purpose of letting them understand this particular set of Christians (and the narrative supports this). Rather it is to encourage more Christians with the same belief system to keep "fighting the good fight" or whatever. Furthermore, the film itself is offensive, especially considering its creator directly compares homosexuals to lairs and thieves to the actual faces of gay individuals(though I'm betting that in many cases those individuals were plants, the comparison is still offensive). Furthermore, the movie itself is rubbish by any critical standard. Too many Christian movies consider message to trump merit. As in, it doesn't matter if the film is terrible by any objective critical standards as long as it panders to the base(see: Saving Christmas, Left Behind, Christian Mingle, God's Not Dead, etc etc). Sorry, but if you want the film to not be mocked outside of the very specific audience it panders to, then it needs to actually be decent by some objective standards(for example, Birth of a Nation has one of the most vile messages you can imagine, but for its time, it was crafted extremely well from a filmmaking standpoint). And another point on this: you talk about posters here not knowing or understanding, when many of us here(myself included) have watched the bloody video. We GET IT. We just still think it is dumb. Furthermore, we also know it's "not all Christians" because even the homosexual groups are going out of their way to hold dialogue with certain churches/organizations.

Lastly, and I say this with full confidence as a Sociologist: Christians are not being discriminated against in any way here. There have been no atheist hate crimes against Christians. White Christians are actually MORE likely to climb the social ladder than most groups, so there is no institutionalized bigotry at play, either. The LEAST likely belief system a person can have and still be elected President is Atheist. Furthermore, many Christian groups have a nasty history of actually doing discrimination. See: religious argument for slavery, against desegregation, interracial marriage(and we've got examples of that stuff on audio and video as well as in written form), etc.

I tell you what though, should the day come when Christians actually DO face discrimination in the U.S., myself and my peers/superiors will do our best to fight for your rights. But until then, please stop crying wolf while punching down. It's distasteful.

Oh for fuck's sake, this is the same bigoted bakery? Fine their assed again, a high enough amount this time so they are busy paying instead of harrassing.

Could it be though that their prejudice is truly derived from their beliefs and that they aren't simple using their beliefs to justify their prejudice?

Sorry, but even if that was the case, that just doesn't fly in a world where separation of church and state is a thing. The courts have already ruled that making the damn cake would not have been an undue burden on the business practicing their faith. Furthermore, as the article demonstrates(and as others have said), there are Christian denominations that are just fine with gay marriage. Christianity has ALWAYS changed over time. Do you know how many schisms and evolutions it took to get to, say, Mormonism(probably the most ardent supporter of Prop 8 and such), or Pentecostals? Quite a few, and that's not even counting the days before the Nicene Creed. There is more than enough biblical wiggle room(and precedent) to be a Christian and not be a bigot. Religion is no excuse for prejudice.

Even if that is the case it's not like they are the only self-purported Christians doing this. They didn't make the Audacity video, and they are only a very small part of the overarching problem. Definitely a symptom rather than a cause imo. What these people are a part of have ruined the lives of countless innocent people for so many years in so many ways, and not just in the U.S. To wave the correlation off is a pretty big stretch, especially with all the documentation we have.

That being said, I am not going to throw the many Christians who do not do these horrible things and speak out against them under the bus. There are so many different sects under the umbrella of Christianity at this point that the title Christian has very little actual meaning to me, and i will base (most of) my opinion of them on how they conduct themselves. However, I cannot blame people for assuming the worst. I very seldom actually act on my bi tendencies due to my long term hetero relationships, I don't have to go through even a fraction of what others in the lbgt community deal with every day.

Pls illuminate this place with the insight we're all missing.

These people are nothing bigoted trolls. Your religion does not give you an excuse to be a bigot. You are a bigot and your using your religion as an excuse. Truly disgusting behavior.

I appreciate the thought out response and you have some valid points. As far as the movies. Yeah they're pretty bad. Hard to argue that one. Most preachy movies are though Christian or otherwise.

As far as the bakery. I haven't read too much in detail about this case other than headlines and whatnot , but shame on them. As people , we don't have to agree with everything , we don't have like everything , but we should all respect each other. They were in the wrong to unveil personal information and give these people trouble.

So the problem is the way many members think they know what Christianity is about. Yes, there are certainly bad Christians out there. But the vast majority are good people that know they are sinners and want to better themselves and the world around them.
