Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear |OT| Tales of a Sword Coast Legend

Finally had some time to play this. Early impressions are pretty positive, but of course I'm still very early in the game. Also saw first real glimpse of the improved enemy AI while fighting some undead. A shadowed soul actually tried to kite my melee fighters by running away, and stopping to cast a quick spell and then running away again. Don't remember that happening before.

So does anyone know how long until this is fully integratted into the Big Picture mod?

It's been awhile since since I've used BG mods. I'm assuming BP is still the best mod to combine all the games and expansions.

Can't wait to lose myself in 200 hours of the best game ever again.

I know a Trilogy mod is in the works to fit SoD right in with the other games, they had access to the code before the game was released. Beamdog is great with the mod scene.

How well does BG1:EE work on a Surface Pro 3?

On my surface pro 2 it is flawless.

but what's the level range for the campaign? As much as I love BG1, the game kinda suffers from being so low level imo and lacks the cool equipment and spells that can be found in BG2.

If you start a new game in SoD you begin with about 70k xp (about level 7) and your characters are decked out. Basically all the best gear from BG1. That might be a more interesting spot for you.

Finally had some time to play this...

Your avatar is exceptional.

I'm one step closer to buying this add on, just bought my first ever game on Steam, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition since it's on a great sale (5€). Now I just need to play (continue) Pillars of Eternity first, then play BG:EE (loved the original, one of the best games ever), then I should check out this game.

Interesting points from SoD:

  • The stat rolling now skews MUCH higher. Getting a roll of 90+ takes only a minute or two edit: retested this after the posts below. It seems I was just crazy fucking lucky last night on the three characters I made? Rolling seems normal now for BG and SoD. Or perhaps it was a mod I had installed..
  • The starting party changes based off of your alignment. Good is the 'canon' party members, evil is Baeloth, Viconia, Edwin, Dorn and Safana
  • Viconia has a new portrait! She actually looks like a drow! Still pretty hot!
  • Neutral Party - Khalid & Jaheria, Safana (lol) Dorn & Neera
  • You can now just create a whole party yourself in singleplayer mode. No need to make an MP party then switch them over

Just noticed it's up on GoG for $19, however BG:EE is only $2.99 right now!

Added to the OP, thanks

bg2ee and IWDEE are also on sale if you're in the mood for more cRPG goodness

  • Took me over 10 minutes of rolling last night to get a number of greater 90 (91) and then my finger kept clicking and I lost it. Finally just used EE Keeper to give me the same stats on my character from my BG:EE playthrough last year (93 total). For some reason my late game BG1 saves seem to have been nuked at some point along with my the BG2 save I continued with it. Very frustrated.

Bought. I played through the BG: Trilogy mod and finished it a while back, I've had the enhanced editions but haven't gone through them. This is a good excuse to do so.

The custom party in singleplayer works without SoD. Don't think the stat rolling really skews higher, at least certainly not without buying SoD.

20 minutes of rerolling and this is the best I could get.

Highest I ever saw was 88, though I think this build ended up being 84 or 85.

Multi-class Kensai?

That makes me wonder how the shaman class is coded. Does it function like a cleric kit that one could mod into a dual-class like the barbarian functions like a fighter kit or is it like the sorcerer?

Can you, or someone, post a screenshot?

She was/is my favorite character.

This only seems to affect SoD. She still has her BG1 portrait in BG. Unfortunately I can't check her BG2 portrait..

Multi-class Kensai?

I'm going to assume Sinitar cheated.

When did they add the custom single player party? I didn't see the option last week when I rolled a custom party. Also I edited my post about the stat rolling. Either I was crazy damn lucky with three characters or I had some mod that was affecting rolls.

You know...
I like it. I like it a lot.
Edit: Pardon my rudeness; thanks!

I'm rather fond of it as well. Basically is her BG2 portrait redone as a more proper Drow appearance/clothing. Also dark purple really is her color..

You know what DLC I would not mind? High-quality portrait packs. The Kieran Yanner pack for example was great.

.

Best stretch goal for Shadowrun: Hong Kong was the extra portraits! They're pretty awesome, btw.

Okay this post is too long now no more editing.

I think....Wednesday (or maybe Thursday) both BG1 and BG2 got a big patch to prepare for SoD. Said patch added the various interface changes, as well as custom parties and achievements.
Stat rolling depends heavily on the class. Some classes have a lot of fixed minimal values, which means you're much more likely to get a high roll. It's probably better to just use EE Keeper to change stats.

Love a lot of the new interface stuff but really wish they had programmed in an autoequip button for picking up the gear from where a party member dies. Or put in a toggle not to drop the gear at all if you are just going to res them anyway.

Hmm. Now to decide if I want to play through Baldur's Gate again because I don't have any of my old saves, and if I want to do it on PC or my tablet.

Well, SoD isn't going to be out for Android/iOS for at least 5-6 weeks they said on stream.

Did anyone here play EE on multiplayer? Yesterday I convinced a friend to start a playthrough, neither the lobby or direct connection worked (we have all the ports open, no firewall, etc) so we had to use Evolve make a LAN game and still it was kinda buggy to join but seems playable.
So, is there any problem (like the game kicking you on loading screens) or can you complete it?

It seems like modding for this is going to be a mess unless Beamdog makes some changes since dialog.tlk is now placed in a zip file and can't be altered with weidu. To even mod vanilla BG1 you need to uninstall Dragonspear for now.

I bought BG1 EE, the new expansion, and BG2 EE last night. It's been years since I played 2 and I never played 1. Excited but I have one question - are there any absolutely essential mods for either game or should I play them as they are?

There are a lot of mods, some of them quite good where they correct various quirks of the engine as well as mistakes, plus quests, more NPCs, etc.... That said, if you are not super familiar with the ruleset and the gameworld, just play vanilla for your first game, IMO.

Oh, and if you bought from Steam/GoG, mods are hosed (work from Beamdog direct).

Honestly, I think the fully patched BG:EE makes most of the previously essential BG1 mods obsolete.

Not really, like the post above said, the EEs pretty much already have the essential mods. You're good to go.

Three things I've learned:
1) They've added really solid AI scripts for party members. It seems like these might make it a lot easier for people that don't want to micromanage every fight.
2) Legacy of Bhaal difficulty is bullshit.
3) During cutscenes the characters are all rendered invincible, which is good, because otherwise you'd die immediately in BG1 on LoB difficulty.
