Not only are these questions answered in the linked thread, but you're using the acronyms that are still banned.

I read the entire thread linked and it didn't explain what they mean. And it's not like I was using the words in context just wanted to know what they are. Damn ...

Not that I use any of them, & yes I abhor reirom-speak, but can anyone of you make a comprehensive list of bannable phrases or words? And for those complaining, this is a private forum that we aren't paying for. It's not a cesspool like OA, & these aren't unreasonable rules imo. Whether or not it infringes on your right to post freely is laughable, post intelligibly. This isn't a suck-up, but I hate OA for a multitude of reasons & on many levels, so the further we are beyond them the better.

Edit: Nevermind, found the bannable link on the 1st page.

I think this is all a bit ridiculous, but I like coming here more than I like being banned, so I'll abide by the rules here.

But don't you guys worry about a slippery slope starting here? If you've got somebody going into every thread going "OMG HIDEO AM CRY" well then yeah, let them wear the dunce cap for a couple weeks. I just think this is an awful slippery slope. What's the rule going to be changed to? If you say something that a mod thinks is out of style or overused, then you get banned? Not trying to sound like an ass here, I'm just honestly wondering.

I think it should be much more on a case by case basis. Pay more attention to individual jerkoffs (as BuddyC has pretty much eluded to doing in the future) and not just carpet bomb an entire thing. If people constantly use these phrases, well, bye-bye. But if it's me, per se, and I slip and use something like that in a debate (trying to make a point by, say, pointing out how stupid the argument is), would that really warrant me getting banned, or being told "Yo, knock that shit off dude."?

Like I said before... not trying to rock the boat here, I'm just raising a few flags to cover my ass in the future.

Matlock posted the list earlier in this thread. Don't ask what they mean though, =(

Sorry the 2nd page of that thread wouldn't load for me, BTW.

I honestly think that this whole ordeal is a bit ridiculous. On the one hand, we have people fretting over the fact that slang phrases are being banned. On the other hand, we have the mods who actually care enough to ban slang?

More and more, I think the rules and fine print on this forum are becoming a bit out of hand. Some users just use the slang in a non-chalant, funny way, whereas other users will abuse it to hell. In this case, I think the mods should deal with it on an indvidual basis.

It might start with small catchphrases, but pretty soon it's going to become attitudes and thoughts that are going to be banned. If the whole Drinky/Nintendo fiasco wasn't the closest thing to totalitarianism this forum has ever seen, then I'm afraid of what's to come.

There's going to be users arguing this decision. There's going to be users getting banned for arguing. And then there's going to be users sucking up to the mods and giving them high fives for banning the 'rebels'. A line really needs to be drawn somewhere, because this forum is slowly but surely turning into the opposite of what it set out to be.

Like I said, catchphrases, not that big of a deal (Though absolutely stupid on both sides). But what is this a sign of?

Yeah... "late to the party" threads are very annoying. We don't need to hear about how you've finally caught up with the rest of the gaming world!

Why are they annoying? They spur discussion about good games, generally, and if it gets more people interested and talking about them, what's the harm?

I thnk there's an awfully large divide between banning a few select catchphrases and entire schools of thought, but I will agree that they're both on the same slipperly slope. I remember discussing the same point with someone during the acronym bannings of 2004, but looking around, we've still got all kinds in these parts. It's something to keep an eye on though, yes.

Serious questions:

1) What is "reirom speak"

2) What is "rosebudded"

I don't come here often enough, apparently.

From some weird character in the new Zelda game. What's with all the Nintendo hate around here?

Another legit question: Is it a coincidence that each new round of banned phrases is met with the same outrage from forumites, and the same ignorance by mods? I mean, it's never been put to a poll. Why? Because it won't be in your favor? I know the same people chime in for and against on these issues. What do the majority of the people think? This is not a proper sampling size at all, sorry. It's a private forum, but his place means shit without people to keep the discussion going. It's been through many changes, this is just a recent anomaly, and there's no evidence that it helps one bit. Maybe this shit would be easier to stomach if there was a rational explanation besides, "I don't like it, so I'm taking my ball and going home."

Anyway, this is my last post on this. I don't use the banned phrases, so it shouldn't affect me. But the sheer absurdity of it all is appalling. And the me-tooers are fairly shortsighted in their zeal to give the celebratory reach-around. I guess I'm a grumpy old codger disappointed with the way the new management thinks they need to fix a formula that was never broken to begin with. PEACE.

Bannings will be given on a case by case basis and will take the user's past behavior into account. A slip-up from someone who contributes often is likely to be dealt with less harshly than that of a blatant troll.

Why not put a list of all bannable catchphrases in the TOS?

Who cares? The message is pretty clear. Stop repeating every funny thing you hear until it's driven into the ground and completely intolerable. It should work as a guideline, not a hard and fast rule, but people just won't take a hint.

Apply it to real life as well as internet forums. You are not Rick James and I am not a female dog in heat, ok?

This would have saved a lot of confusion the last time this happened...

(actually a full overhaul of the terms would help anyway since there's a lot of shit you can get banned for now that isn't covered)

Not sure, I thought I would ever agree with LMB, but yah.. the "catchphrases" are annoying. Especially the ridiculous REIROM/gutter-Engrish speak. It's actually funny the first 100 times, but uh.. after that.. no.

Cool. Hopefully adding something in there about the site not needing backseat moderation as well would help flesh how conduct should be around here too (for as much as this place wants to be like SA, we really don't need their habit of breeding grammar nazis and asskissers who like to derail topics because a noob broke the rules)

Why does the ToS need to be revised in the first place? Give us a preview.

EDIT: Also, "NOOOOOOO" has been around for less of a week. Has it really been that pervasive outside of Star Wars threads? In 2 weeks, nobody will be saying it.

ofcourse i will adhere to the TOS but isnt it alittle immature to ban catch phrases? I mean what about freedom of speech? its not as if people are using racial slurs or extreme foul language within these phrases. a messege board is where people communicate. why is it necessary to elimate phrases of communication?

Speaking of Cubsfan, I'd MUCH rather see 'cocky and funny' banned. It's less amusing than either of the things that are being banned. Of course, if you actually held a poll to see which of the phrases should be banned, the turnout would be abysmal, because nobody wants anything banned.

You hate our freedoms so you're forcing these completely arbitrary rules on us. We lose 'BOMBA' but we get to keep 'Cocky and Funny?' Are we allowed to say 'ninjas' anymore?

It's the same as hanging out with your friends, and saying some stupid shit and them being like, 'dude shut the fuck up'. Seriously, I get sick of Bomba in every thread, and banning someone is the same as a 'shut the fuck up'.

seriously, thank you

I thought all the inside jokes were getting out of hand, but I didn't want to say anything, for fear of getting bashed, berated, and possibly banned. so I'm definitely glad about this

that is all

It's already getting out of hand in the gaming forum. Best to nip it in the bud.

Cocky & Funny would go if it was shortened to CF and used as a catchall answer to any problem.

why is it necessary to elimate phrases of communication?
Because reliance upon these phrases hampers, not facilitates, communication, allowing people to rely on quick catchphrases instead of fleshing out their own thoughts, feelings and ideas. The underlying message is if you're going to contribute, please attempt to do it in an original manner. This ties back to why IBTN was banned last year.

Does this mean that _____.ytmnd.com "nooo" parody links are also banned? Even in the noo apprecation thread?

So Cocky & Funny is okay because it's not an acronym, but Reiromspeak, which lacks acronyms, is part of our GAF heritage, and is generally used only when something performs in an unexpectedly poor manner, is the big bad? Cocky & Funny turns up in any OT topic referring to a relationship with a girl, just as one of those OTHER banned catchphrases.

Is there a consistent manner in which phrases and acronyms are tagged for the black list?

Nope.

It's already used as a catch-all, and shortening it has absolutely no effect on whether or not it hampers communication.

You used the word "it's!" I used that in post #91, and since I post under White Man's Forum Public License, you have to cite the content that I created in your post. Pony up! We don't want to get lawyers involved, do we?

signatures are turned off for a reason i thing the whole "peace" and typing you name out after each post is equally annoying.

Not really. Banning someone for using an old joke is more like breaking your friends jaw, not telling them to shut up. There's a strong difference from telling them they're not funny and not allowing them to speak at all. But GAF is a dictatorship, not a democracy, so this is all pretty moot.

I was going to mention the name thing but I didn't want to single anyone out. :lol

I'd put emphasis on the fact that this is indeed a private forum like yourself said Pimpwerx, but according to you I'm too busy going for the reacharound right now. What a wonderful way to encourage debate...
