BuddyC said:Not only are these questions answered in the linked thread, but you're using the acronyms that are still banned.
I'll meet you halfway. The meaning for one was posted twice, but the other wasn't explained at all.Hollywood said:I read the entire thread linked and it didn't explain what they mean. And it's not like I was using the words in context just wanted to know what they are. Damn ...
Li Mu Bai said:Not that I use any of them, & yes I abhor reirom-speak, but can anyone of you make a comprehensive list of bannable phrases or words? And for those complaining, this is a private forum that we aren't paying for. It's not a cesspool like OA, & these aren't unreasonable rules imo. Whether or not it infringes on your right to post freely is laughable, post intelligibly. This isn't a suck-up, but I hate OA for a multitude of reasons & on many levels, so the further we are beyond them the better.
SnowWolf said:Yeah... "late to the party" threads are very annoying. We don't need to hear about how you've finally caught up with the rest of the gaming world!

I thnk there's an awfully large divide between banning a few select catchphrases and entire schools of thought, but I will agree that they're both on the same slipperly slope. I remember discussing the same point with someone during the acronym bannings of 2004, but looking around, we've still got all kinds in these parts. It's something to keep an eye on though, yes.mattx5 said:It might start with small catchphrases, but pretty soon it's going to become attitudes and thoughts that are going to be banned. If the whole Drinky/Nintendo fiasco wasn't the closest thing to totalitarianism this forum has ever seen, then I'm afraid of what's to come.
MomoPufflet said:Serious questions:
1) What is "reirom speak"
2) What is "rosebudded"
I don't come here often enough, apparently.

Bannings will be given on a case by case basis and will take the user's past behavior into account. A slip-up from someone who contributes often is likely to be dealt with less harshly than that of a blatant troll.whytemyke said:I think it should be much more on a case by case basis. Pay more attention to individual jerkoffs (as BuddyC has pretty much eluded to doing in the future) and not just carpet bomb an entire thing. If people constantly use these phrases, well, bye-bye. But if it's me, per se, and I slip and use something like that in a debate (trying to make a point by, say, pointing out how stupid the argument is), would that really warrant me getting banned, or being told "Yo, knock that shit off dude."?

(actually a full overhaul of the terms would help anyway since there's a lot of shit you can get banned for now that isn't covered)

White Man said:Speaking of Cubsfan, I'd MUCH rather see 'cocky and funny' banned. It's less amusing than either of the things that are being banned. Of course, if you actually held a poll to see which of the phrases should be banned, the turnout would be abysmal, because nobody wants anything banned.
You hate our freedoms so you're forcing these completely arbitrary rules on us. We lose 'BOMBA' but we get to keep 'Cocky and Funny?' Are we allowed to say 'ninjas' anymore?
belgurdo said:Shit, man, here comes the "NO FREEDOMS ON A PRIVATE WEBSITE!" retards. See the things that you bring?
Amen.White Man said:I was just looking for an excuse to say "You hate our freedoms," dumbass. You should be a bannable catchphrase.
It's already getting out of hand in the gaming forum. Best to nip it in the bud.White Man said:EDIT: Also, "NOOOOOOO" has been around for less of a week. Has it really been that pervasive outside of Star Wars threads? In 2 weeks, nobody will be saying it.
Because reliance upon these phrases hampers, not facilitates, communication, allowing people to rely on quick catchphrases instead of fleshing out their own thoughts, feelings and ideas. The underlying message is if you're going to contribute, please attempt to do it in an original manner. This ties back to why IBTN was banned last year.why is it necessary to elimate phrases of communication?

Cocky & Funny would go if it was shortened to CF and used as a catchall answer to any problem.
Is there a consistent manner in which phrases and acronyms are tagged for the black list?

Does this mean that _____.ytmnd.com "nooo" parody links are also banned? Even in the noo apprecation thread?
What's next? Cuss words?

Hollywood said:It's the same as hanging out with your friends, and saying some stupid shit and them being like, 'dude shut the fuck up'. Seriously, I get sick of Bomba in every thread, and banning someone is the same as a 'shut the fuck up'.
I was going to mention the name thing but I didn't want to single anyone out. :lolKabuki Waq said:signatures are turned off for a reason i thing the whole "peace" and typing you name out after each post is equally annoying.
