Batman Arkham Knight PC re-release Oct. 28th

Great! I'll buy it when it's like...7.50.

There's no way I'm buying this game at full price.
again (played on XONE)

I am stoked to play this on PC again, eventually.

It's phenomenal at 60fps.

I bet it is, and I'm excited about the idea of playing it again. But I just can't...

I still refuse to buy Origins even though I was interested in the story after the crap that WB said about "work on DLC first, bug fixes maybe later, probably not."

Chances are it will.

Weird, tried it out. 30 fps locked ( never budges) with 1/2 refresh rate standard vsync with nvidia inspector. All graphics options on/highest, except for textures which are on normal @ 3440x1440. Afterburner says my Vram is at 4.1-4.2 gb, don't know how on a 970 and system ram is at 7.3gb. Getting no stutters or micro stutters at all around the city.

Glad I basically got to play this game for free.
Refunded it from GMG as soon as I heard of this fiasco shortly after initial release. Game was still in my steam library. I didn't even touch the game, and it was still in my library when the September patch was released. Launched it for the very first time then and finished the it in a few weeks after that.

Good job WB.

wait, sorry if this is a dumb question...but it comes with another patch too that fixes stuff right? All it mentions is a patch that adds content

Hopefully. That remains to be seen. If they actually think the last patch they released was good good enough, they better think again. Nowhere near good enough to recommend someone to spend or re-spend money on this game again. It made it playable for me, but it was often a pain with heavy stuttering. Just not to the point where my PC dies.

Always happy to be wrong.

I would like to take this moment to formally thank Warner Bros. for blowing it since I got MGSV for free out of the whole debacle.

Same here.

Two free games, one I liked (MGS5) and another I've thoroughly enjoyed following the debacle of (I had almost no interest in the game beforehand).

Bought asylum and city day one and haven't touched Knight nor will I for another couple of months until it's dirt cheap, too many other games to play now.

PC buyers should get the season pass free IMO for all the grief.

Will check my steam copy later when I get home from work.

Most of my hype for this game is absolutely gone by now but I guess it could run through it. If there is another patch that is, the first one was somewhat better but still rather abysmal performancewise for me (GTX970, i5-4690k)

No mention of whether this patch is going to actually fix the game's performance, though. Just adding content, and telling people to buy the season pass because they apparently have no shame whatsoever. That last patch helped a little, but the game still runs like shit on my 2GB 670; no chance of even a solid 30 regardless of settings.

I remember asking what the reason was for this delay, and only was told "game development is hard."

I guess that was right

Wasn't there an article, maybe Kotaku stating that Rocksteady barely was able to get the Batmobile up and running at a steady 30fps... and that was on CONSOLES! That's reason for the delays this game got.

I can only imagine what really went down development-wise with this game.

The decision to stick with UE 3 and trying to stretch it way beyond what it was ever expected to do has a lot to do with the issues they were faced with and why the PC version obviously was neglected on the backburner.

Forgive my ignorance but is there going to be a patch along with the re-release to address issues they didn't fix in the first patch? From the OP it seems that they are including Photo mode and other features that are on console...do we expect more fixes rolling out with the re-release?

I assume so. I mean why re-release the game if the core functionality isn't working. All this DLC talk would be rendered null.

The interim patch made the game a little more playable but it was still a mess at times with the frames going all over the place.
I was able to bring the game to a complete crawl during one of the hand to hand VR missions when I started to knockout a lot of goons in a short period of time.
This was with a 4GB GTX770 (at 1080p) and most settings at medium with the Nvidia stuff off.
When I restarted the VR mission it was running at high frames again...

So they still have work to do as far as the performance goes on PC.
Which is why I hope this re release isn't just the DLC being added cause I doubt people will be okay withe the state that the game is in right now.
Oh and the raindrop shaders on Batman and Batmobile are still fucked as well once you exit and re enter the game.

Really?...elaborate.

They used a heavily customized UE3 engine, which already seemed ill fit for open world games with quick traversal due to streaming hitches in previous games, choosing it over an engine that natively supported a lot of the features they likely had to shoehorn in themselves. They managed to make the game look great and perform well on consoles but the reports of development issues, delays and the handing over of the PC port to a separate studio suggest it was a struggle.

I don't have any more details than what is publicly known, just speculation. Didn't mean to make my earlier post sound like I knew anything beyond what is already out there.

After this whole episode, don't put anything past them. I can easily believe that they haven't touched the performance at all and still left it with stutters and texture issues for the "final" release.

I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I'm giving them absolutely no credit here. If the community reports that the game is still broken, I'll probably refund it finally and buy it later when it's under $20.

This is all interesting. What would have been a better engine for this game?

This reminds me of Tango Gameworks using the ID Tech 5 engine for The Evil Within and it having performance issues, when the Unreal engine seems like the better engine for it.

I thought the Unreal engine was top tier game engine, I bet Epic Games could've made Arkham Knight PC work out of the box.

The timing of when development started probably put them in a bad place for choosing an engine for a "next gen" game. UE4 is likely better fit for the job but at that time it was probably not ready.

There will most likely be a patch for SLI/Crossfire but I'm pessimistic anything will be done to improve performance for single GPU users.

That would make it seem not ready. What's the point to re-release if it still runs like the interim patched Arkham Knight.

This re-release needs to be the intended version that should've come out back in July. They got to be ready.

If it's not in tip-top shape then this is nothing but a symbolic release, a really misguided attempt at saving face, because it could blow on their faces all over again.

I hope I'm wrong but my cynical side just does not buy that.

True, but don't underestimate publishers. If they're just a tiny little smart WB will ensure the game runs as well, and is as bug-free as it can but it could also be that they just want to get rid of it all and forget about this blunder.
Granted if that was their true plan they could have simply re-released it much sooner.

The DLC doesn't even seem to be worth waiting for a GOTY edition.

Eh, I can buy it now and not play it (no time), but it on x-mas sale and maybe play it (might have time over xmas break), or buy it when a goty releases and use alt costumes and at least have a peek at the DLC for no additional cost.

I'll wait for goty, mainly because I don't have time to play it now. Only way i'll buy it is if I can get it for <$15 over x-mas break. I still haven't played mad max yet and I bought it for 20.

I'll have to give ng+ a whirl. Nothing for waiting for the game to be fixed pretty much seals the deal that I won't buy another WB pc game unless it's heavily discounted to single digits.
