Batman Returns is a Christmas movie

Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, you can change it to him trying to go to a family BBQ over July 4th weekend or Thanksgiving dinner and it would be exactly the same movie.

It has nothing to do with being family friendly or schmaltzy or whatever, Bad Santa is a Christmas movie and is none of that.

Boy does that Christmas movie suck.

I watched Batman recently and loved it. It's probably tied with The Dark Knight in second place slightly behind Batman Begins. I only watched Returns a couple of times when I was a kid but I remembered thinking it was kinda weird but I liked it.

Wow it's horrible. The only good part about it was when Batman and Catwoman fight when they first meet.

Check mate

Eh, made for TV movie.

But I'll give it a pass for being a movie about a church choir singing Christmas songs that has Christmas in title. There are almost no Christmas movies that do not feature snow, this is probably the only one and I'm certain you googled for this lol

It's like saying Terminator is a cop movie.

I love that movie! It might even be the best of them but I will have to go for: No, it's not a christmas movie.
It plays at christmas but it lacks a chaotic dad and lots of fun adventures, including a burning family tree.

Marketing angles don't change the movie content. The movie has no snow and you could trivially write the holidays out of the script. The holidays are an unnecessary pretext here, not a integral element of the plot. There is dialogue that states the party at the plaza was half because of the closure of a recent deal and not simply a Christmas party.

It's clearly an hvac movie since that still above has him crawling through a vent.

It's an action movie that happens to have some Christmas elements, for many this is not enough to make it an official Christmas movie. Bugmen love to say it is one because they love UM ACKSHUALLY-ing anything and enjoy contrarian choices. It's a fun explosion heavy movie and they are children.

It's been a long time since I've seen it, how integral is Christmas to the actual plot of the movie? Could it take place in another time of year and everything would proceed the same way? A Christmas movie needs more than just a bit of scenery here and there. It's why Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.

kind of like Miles Morales.

But how does it compare to The Lost Boys?

Good question.

Too much nostalgia for me so Lost Boys is my jam. Must have watched that movie 100 times. So I might give it the edge but would have to watch both again to make a fair comparison.

A better comparison might be Edward Scissorhands, another Burton flick that is sort of a Xmas movie.

Imagine swapping main characters and putting Batman in ES and ES in Batman.

Now that would be an interesting set of movies.

On that note, I'd almost argue Die Hard 2 is more of a Christmas movie, as it's set during the same time of year and there is a ton of snow, but nobody ever talks about that one.

I watched Die Hard 1 today, and a different Christmas movie litmus test occurred to me. Die Hard opens with no Christmas music, no snow, no talk of Christmas. It opens with oranges and greys, a plane flight. I would have to go back and check some of the big Christmas movie classics, but IIRC they all open with scenes that unmistakably convey Christmas and holidays, either through the music or visuals or both. This movie does not. It's several minutes into the movie before you're even aware that it is set during Christmas time. I kind of had it half on while playing CoD, and not once when looking up did I see anything Christmas related, blink and you miss the Christmas content here.

I just put in Die Hard 2 and it opens with sleigh bells, snow, Chrsitmas decorations everywhere, and John trying to talk a cop out of a ticket because it's Christmas. This is 1 minute and 30 seconds into the movie.

After a recent viewing (last few years), I don't think Die Hard has aged all that well. I never liked Die Hard 2 but I probably haven't seen it in a decade or two. I should fire it up.

Somewhere around here, I have some fan edits of this movie made back in the VHS days.
One is the whole movie with every bit of Penguin removed from it.
The second one is the whole movie with every bit of Catwomen removed from it.

It's a christmas movie, just a sad one.Penguin,Catwoman, and Batman are all longing for family, the fact it's christmas only catalyzes this for them.If this movie was set at any other time, their bleak situations wouldn't be accented as much.
