Ray needs to work on delivery and flow, at least in terms of breath control and adding/deleting certain words from his bars so it sounds better

UFF: Ill Will vs. Sno. Judge: Swizz Beatz

I think I've had enough of Sno. I used to want him on the big stage but there's only so much fucking your slut bars I can take, sorry. Didn't like Ill Will's angle in this battle either, but his 3rd round was okay. The quality of these battles severely declined as time went on. It's gonna be the same next year if they don't give these dudes more time between battles.

I think I'll end up going back to last season's battles more than this one's because of all of the chokes.

Agreed on all points. Sno's schemes are growing stale, and Will could have stole his soul, but instead, he was phoning in mediocre race schemes. Sno's white. We get it. Pretty underwhelming battle overall.

Check out some of the battles in OP. I think that's a good place to start building what or who you do/don't like, although, admittedly, it is a bit street/Smack focused.

I think it's also better to start with good battles rather than checking for rappers to follow, since you might somehow stumble upon a bad/irregular showing.

Alternatively, just watch JC vs. Chilla Jones.

I don't think so, but I want to find it now. I know vs. KG (in the PG battle) he used "filler".

The reason I don't think so is that when it happens it gets blown up and WorldStar'd. Last time I think that happened was Prophit vs. Millenium Ls (18 mins in). This battle was hilarious, because he got progressively racist as the battle went on and then that and then he starts doubling and quadrupling down haha watching this battle again, Millenium's first round is actually damn good. Norbes looks like he's scared as hell when he keeps going in.s

EDIT: I'm watching Sno vs. JC now and he sort of admits to dropping it in the first round.

I still find it hilarious UW couldn't get their heads out of their asses to eventually upload the battle to the official Youtube channel. Lost money all around. Not only do they lose money they lose branding power. Put ads in the front and back of the video, keep people coming to your channel, get more subs. etc etc. They also have people remembering the battle in shitty quality. Sure the PPV quality was insanely good, but you have to understand eventually 75% of your views come later, and they get stuck watching a horrible janky ass sub 480p video uploaded by joe blow. As much as they like to talk about how good of a business they run, they are behind about 10 years or completely oblivious on how to take better advantage of a once in a lifetime battle event.

Ars took his money and ran. Sure he did pretty well for himself, he just failed to understand he could STILL be making money off it and keeping his brand alive.

Did the details of this ever come to light? I always got the impression UW sunk far too much money into this event, overestimated PPV returns, and are now scrambling to figure out how to make money from their High Stakes footage.

I haven't heard anything concrete, something shady is going on though. I remember Hollow said he didn't get paid in full in one interview.

If they did release them on youtube at this point, they'd get a fraction of the views they would have. If you totaled the amount of views Hollow vs Lux got from all the bootlegs, including the ones UW took down, it'd probably be nearing 2 mil imo. Hardcore fans that have been waiting eagerly will watch the official footage, but most casual fans have probably moved on.

Seems like they kinda fucked themselves all around with High Stakes.

Pretty much agree with the above. They seemed to get decent sponsors for the event (McDonalds, Monster DNA) but all signs point towards them probably just breaking even or maybe even taking a loss. I remember Ars saying he has a venue full of 1000 people that he can charge x amount back to recoup but apparently only 300 or so came out. Another thing too is that the PPV numbers estimated from the page was actually just the number of people who were on the channel but not necessarily watching a purchased PPV (IIRC).

I wouldn't put it past them taking losses. They did hire a Hollywood film crew as well. "We're saving the footage for something special" is pretty much what URL has been saying about the Yung Ill vs. Conceited battle for years; difference is it wasn't a battle of this magnitude. These guys hurt the culture by not putting that shit out. It could have been bigger than the Calicoe battle, because it wasn't a one-sided ass whooping and IMO a much better battle as well.

And where is UW right now? Where is the growth? Beasley is sitting somewhere elated he didn't have to deal with this but the battle still happened, and the live stream did end up getting pirated everywhere as well. Their site hasn't been updated since January, and it turns out their rumoured card isn't real.

I just want fucking HQ, edited footage of those battles, not the shitty rips of someone recording the livestream. I paid for the PPV too but I can't seem to find a reliable way to rip the recordings off of the website (and the non-Hollow/Lux battles are all in one big video, not separate, too).

DNA is looking better for that Ill Will match. He's still taking a while to get to the punch but he had some good ones in this. Prez just... ehh, idk about this dude in general right now. I like his voice, makes him stand out. He should focus on being more disrespectful than trying to flex the word-play. I like him better when he's on that shit, it suits his delivery.

I'm telling y'all, don't sleep on DNA. When he's motivated, he shows out. Last time people counted him out, he shut down Stage 48 against Chilla.

In the Prez battle he seemed fairly aware of what people are saying about him and why he fell off, and I have a feeling he's gonna go left for Ill Will. DNA's success is COMPLETELY dependent on if he stumbles or not though. He's gotten too comfortable over at KOTD and he just stumbles like its nothing now. He needs to become thorough, and stay away from go-to lines.

Who are the people capable of headlining?

I guess what I wanna know is, even though b magic is top tier, he's not headlining an event/ getting the top billing (shoutout to audio two). I can never see him going last at a NOME or KOTD event.

As a someone famous once said, there's levels to this shit.

Shotty has potential to be on the upper level. If he battled more, I would've given him another year. He's more focused on his music though, after his first two battles (which was really just one that got delayed) couldn't come together and now I think he is having issues leaving his country.

I agree about Daylyt also. There are a lot of talented battle rappers that have potential to make the list and headline eventually. But I think there are problems that make it difficult for a lot of people to break out or be seen as the next big thing. Its a management thing, a money thing, and battle rapper thing (both new and established rappers).

Big T co-headlined BO4, and headlined NOME 2. Hitman Holla is like, one of the most popular battle rappers, like top 5 without question. Of course he can headline. Surf headlined NOME 3 and Born Legacy, and his stock is still super high for whatever reason. Verb/Conceited/Illmac/The Saurus etc. are legends that should be able to headline but never manage to. Daylyt headlined SM3. Magic can't headline unless he's facing someone who will give him the shot. I think Rex can headline outside of NY.

I don't think headlining means much anymore, TBH. There are main events and under cards pretty much.

I actually went back to Surf vs. Clips and besides the choke it wasn't as bad of a showing. I'd actually give it 2-1 to Clips now and give Surf the first. Unfortunately, the whole vibe of the battle makes it look really bad for Surf, Clips just styled on him. Like, badly.

A lot of memorable Surf lines from that battle.
