Last question: all of the "equipment" that you pick up at the end of story missions are basically items that you have to use shards to activate during both co op and PvP matches, right? You make a load out and then choose if and when to activate your buffs? Is there anything else to it? Any more permanent aspects rather than temporary buffs?
That's exactly it. There aren't more permanent aspects, and I think it's a good idea, or more veteran people would have advantage over new players.
Why does it take so long to find a game? The matchmaking in this game seems to go about the process as if it some sort of MMO but it is more a FPS. I don't get why it does not go about it like any other FPS. Seems so artificially implemented to give the guise of being more a MMORPG.
Matchmaking is slow yeah, one of things I don't like. I think it's faster in Smite, for example.
They should really give people 5 min to reconnect and then replace with a bot. Every single match I play is tainted by quitters. The game already has bots, use them. I supposed they are worried about a bot helping the enemy team by being farmed, but that can't be worse than being a man down.
Oh, I didn't know there were bots. Then you are right, it would be a good idea to replace them with bots.
It's very satisfying to see the opinions on Battleborn moving into a positive light. I played the Closed Technical Test and thought Gearbox did a really good job melding shooter and MOBA mechanics and blended an interesting world to boot. Very happy to see people enjoying the beta.
I think it's the best thing they have done, the melding of shooter and MOBA. I like how they didn't transplanted the classic MOBA into a fps, they just took the general ideas, like tug-of-war style of fight, minion waves you have to attend, a small side of economic part (scrap, gear and deployables) and reimagined them in their own modes.
-Can already tell game will require way too much grinding for my tastes. Looking at how you unlock characters, like geez. I dont doubt there will be options to outright buy characters when it launches.
I don't think there is going to have an option to buy characters. I would also like to have the heroes directly available, but the grind isn't so high. I estimate in 25-30 hours you should unlock most of them. Some of them will unlock with playing the 4 hour campaign, others winning just 5 times with a faction (which comprises of 5 characters), etc.
But I'm sure they will have paid skins, because the present "free" skins are super lame, just very basic recoloring ones. So I suppose the proper skins who really change their aspect will be in micro-dlcs or something like that.
-Seems like the heroes could be better balanced, the sword guy is super frustrating to fight.
He is fine.
So guys tell me about the Mobaish mode. That's what i'm mostly interested in.
It's called Meltdown.
-Two lanes instead of three.
-No proper towers as roadblocks in the lane.
-They are shorter lanes, they don't extend all the way from your base to the enemy's base. In fact they start being very short, and once you reach half of the needed score, they extend a little more (but still not up to the bases).
-No final objective of destroying the enemy base, you win when you reach 500 points of score (you are given points when your minions reach their goal).
-The lanes are pretty close, you need just a few seconds to switch lanes.
-No jungle with camps, but there are some small and big crystals to destroy to earn credits.
-No shop system, but you can spend your credits to activate a series of pre-selected passive buffs and to buy and upgrade deployables in set places in the map (a mini tower in the middle of the lane, a supply station that heals you a bit on the back, another station that speed ups your minions, etc). They can be destroyed by the enemy, and pretty easily.
-You can back to base like in LoL/Smite.
-You level up from 1 to 10. I think the game is a bit more lenient and "feeding" the enemy team is bad, but not as bad as in classic mobas, they don't win as much power.
-A nifty trick to finish: each wave has a big minion and a group of small ones. He gives a buff to shields (overshield) to everyone who is close (including yourself) in specific places where he will activate it. Useful to have an edge for the fights.
edit: I think it's interesting that the other mode, Incursion, is only 1 lane so it feels less like a MOBA but... actually it has some elements from it not present in Meltdown. In Incursion you have to reach and destroy the enemy base (well the guardian), so the lane extend up to that point, there is a forward guardian who dishes out a lot of damage which is basically a tower, and there are neutral camps to defeat to gain an advantage.
