Battlefield 4 PC performance thread

Just weighing in...

Specs:
i5 3570k(stock clock)
7970 3gb oc
8gb
SSD

Running at 2560x1440-120hz, everything ultra and 2xmsaa, 120FOV, getting a solid 50+ minus the expected dips during heavy action.

Performance is great on 7970 Ghz ed. The game itself has problems. Crashed couple of times and a buncb of lost connections and rubberbanding.

Ah well its being hammered ai its expected I guess. Love the game so far none the less.

Nice. My rig is pretty similar to yours. Are you on Win7 or 8?

How are graphic cards with only 2GB of vram holding up? Wondering how my 690 would do...

Ultra everything with 4xMSAA and 90 FoV at 1080p. 60-90 FPS depending on map and what's happening, dips under 60 sometimes when shit really blows up. I haven't done a fraps benchmark yet, so I don't know the exact numbers for those settings but it's been at 60+ most of the time during the whole evening I've played and no stuttering.

So no stuttering at all like I experienced with same settings during the beta when I went from 2 to 4xMSAA.

Got 2GB 680 DCII Top, i7 4770K@4,3GHz, 8GB RAM, Win 8.1.

And I fixed my artifacting I was getting earlier, turned down my overclock and now the game doesn't look like this anymore after maybe 15 minutes of playing.

Windows 7. I should mention I'm using the newest AMD beta drivers(released prior to BF4). I'm pretty satisfied with the setup myself. Ever thought of picking up another gpu? Trying to take advantage of the 120hz refresh rate is going to be quite the task.

I guess some people can not appreciate abstract art.

so, is this game fully playable with a gamepad ir is it like B3 that you had to use the M/K for quicktimes

No on screen controller button prompts, and you need a mouse to mess with the menus or the ammo/weapon box. Kinda sucks. All the buttons work fine though once you figure out what is what.

This is maddening. My PC automatically restarts anytime I enter a game in multiplayer or save settings in the test range. Has anyone heard or come across this problem at all?

I just want to play this game!

same things been happening to me but i just got a 290x and it started to happen in bf3 also, i do have 1000w power supply but it is 5 years old and if i limit the power limit settings by -50% it stops it from happening

it always happens in the same part of the single player, when you board the attacked ship and open the hatch to dive into the water or just at random in MP.... so i ordered a new power supply pretty sure thats what it is, my old card 5870 only needed 450w 290x says 750+ lol guess the extra strain cant handle it, least thats what i hope it is :(

so DF employee and "the human framerate counter" (amongst others) called me out for suggesting that a $200 GPU could push 1080p with a mix of high+ultra settings:

Bullshit.

You're not going to get comparable performance at 1080p Ultra on a sub-$200 GPU. The framerate will be dipping far below 60 fps on such a card. You're massively underestimating the requirements.

how are those 7950s holding up?

Dude can write analysis but I don't think he ever claimed to be an expert on GPU's and their performance. He leaves that up to us real NeoGAF pros.

Well, he was right about the beta map. I get horrible performance in that map. I'm not sure what the deal is with Shanghai.

Yeah I just ordered a new power supply as well. I'm pretty much at a loss as to what else it could be, tried almost everything. We'll see in a few days. Post an update if the new supply fixes the problem.

That Shanghai SP mission with effects at Ultra was a 30-40fps slideshow. After playing this game at 90-120fps it came as a huge shock.

I'm getting smooth gameplay on ultra now after the patch but after a couple of play tonight I started crashing non stop. The game would freeze, I kill the process, rejoin the game and crash again 2min later. I gave up after the 3rd consecutive crash.

Anyone have any idea how to fix the random crashes and audio loop bug? It's happening to me every few hours now :(

Did a test on my rig to see how it stacks up to the PS4 version, resolution set to 1600x900, all settings high except deferred AA (none) and using HBAO.

I tried taking screenshots in the same area as other ps4 vs xb1 comparisons to make it easier to see differences. PC specs on performance graph.

This is for the first level, I stopped the benchmark after the large building collapse

Looks like your single 570 runs much better than the ps4 with better assets. Man, 1080p really does wonders because those shots are burry.

1080p looks magnitudes better, I played through part of the first level with the settings at 1080p before switching down to 900p and it was a world of difference.

But the thing is when I compare my screenshots to certain PS4 screenshots, the lighting on the PS4 screenshots are better quality and it has less aliasing, so I suppose they might actually be using 2xMSAA. My PC definitely uses higher LOD settings though, but the framerate drop in between areas was really jarring (13fps jesus).

Considering just upgrading my graphics card and picking up the PS4 for console exclusives and such around the time Infamous is released. The Nvidia price drop just hit Australia, I can pick up a gtx 770 4GB model for $50 less than the PS4!

Lowering effects to High makes a big difference. Now I can run SSAO and 2xMSAA and still lock at 60fps.

Definitely give it a shot if you have it at ultra and ur not getting the frames you want. I can't really see the difference between high and ultra

Anyone else getting long hitches in the campaign along with giant CPU latency spikes. This even happens during movies playing in between levels. The CPU and the GPU are not overheating but both are overclocked.

I've never been very good at FPS games and this is my first one on PC. That in mind, when I'm having a good (for me) round and the game crashes, it really bums me out. Why can't stats be synced in real time?

Stats will save when the round ends, so you will keep your stats even if you crash out. If the server crashes (which happens a lot on 64 player servers right now) then nothing is saved.

Ultra everything except Mesh Quality/Effects Quality/Anti aliasing Post (running on Medium). 2xAA

Staying above 30fps at 1080p

On my 2nd mission. I somehow ended up in some underground ice rink and had to restart the mission.

Nice, got about the same everything. Will be running on my crappy old 1440x900 monitor. pity me :(

Nah my PC is an mATX build, so I couldn't fit in another for Crossfire anyway haha. I'm happy atm with 60 FPS @ 1080p anyway :D

my 770 has 2 gigs of ram, and everything is fine. I've been playing on Ultra, with the exceptions of AA and ambient occlusion, those 2 are on a lower setting. I've been doing 60 fps at 1080. It will drop to like 55 fps every now and again, but thats it

So is it advised to disable Post AA? Frames are no issue, I just heard it makes the game look blurry as it is FXAA smeared across the whole image.

Wow, the campaign is absolute balls but I'm still playing for the graphics. Managing to get pretty good frames on high/ultra settings, 1440p. Long live the 6950.

wondering how much system ram the game is using for yall?
task manager reports 2,104,640k max usage, seem normal?
that's on a 64 player conquest map near the end of the round.
specs: i7 870

This game looks better with FXAA on high and MSAA off to me. It doesn't blur the entire image as the engine was build with FXAA in mind and it's done via forcing it through Nvidia control panel therefore it looks infinietely better.

Try FXAA on high and then try MSAA, you'll like FXAA I believe.

I've been running SP at 1080p, everything Ultra except Effects which are high and 2xMSAA and I've been getting a solid 60fps with the odd rare drop in cutscenes when shit hits the fan hard. I'll get numbers over the weekend I wont get a chance to play today.

This is on

Hmm, it seems like AF isn't working for me all of the sudden. Texture filtering is set to Ultra but changing the setting has no impact on the textures. It looks pretty awful without it. :\

Did that piss you off so much? Jesus. You were the one parading that around in a console thread.

It was a guess based on my experience with the game and I'm still not convinced that you're going to see a solid 60 during gameplay. Maybe close to it in single player but in multiplayer? ATI cards had a lot of performance issues with BF3 and BF4 seemed to be more demanding out of the gate. I'm running a card a bit faster than a 7950 and cannot maintain 60 fps at all times (close, though).

Give me a break.

The skepticism comes from the fact that a lot of people seem to miss framerate dips. You'll hear people talking about high framerates on their PCs or consoles and, upon reviewing what they're seeing, you notice all sorts of dips and drops. Nothing too serious but they're there. I found it hard to believe that a slower card could out perform a faster card in this game. That's all.

edit - Wait, the 7950 is hardly a $200 card. I'm sure if you find a sale you could buy it for that much but that's not the price I'm seeing around Newegg or other sites. You can hardly call something a $200 card when the only time you'll find that price is during a sale of some sort.

Yeh the performance in multiplayer is a completely different beast than singleplayer, I haven't made any proper benchmarks like I did above but my GTX 570 really struggles to handle larger maps on high settings. Paracel storm was a stutterfest.

Really debating if I should upgrade to Win 8.1. How's the input lag?I read it was pretty bad...

If you keep reading everything on the internet, you wouldn't do anything. Every game runs bad. Every series have a bad ending. Blah Blah Blah.

I am on 8.1 and it runs good enough for me to explode your heads.
