Battlefield 4 PC performance thread

I7 960 3.2 ghz
6 GB Ram
GTX 680 EVGA Superclocked

Thinking of just getting another 680 and running SLI ...

Would this be a good idea to improve my fps? I really don't want to build a whole new PC just yet, thinking of waiting 1 more year total. But I am definitely going to be doing it soon.

Right now I figure another GTX 680 would at least let me run 1080P pretty nice. I am dropping below 60 into the 30's at worse with everything at Ultra (no AA). I have to run at High to never really drop below 50 FPS.

I had some absolutely unplayable stuttering going on.

I tried the core parking fix, which did nothing, so I reverted to default for that.
Then I disabled hyperthreading, and the stuttering completely disappeared.

Silky smooth now with the occasional "normal" slowdown from lots of explosions and shooty shoots on screen.

Now they just have to catch most of these annoying crash bugs in the next client patch. >.<

EDIT: Forgot to say, this was on Win7 x64, Core i7 3.4GHZ

Crikey just had the RSOD ('red').. seems to be a common issue among AMD owners. :S

Didn't get it once in the beta. That was probably a few minutes after I used the Renderdevice.renderaheadlimit 2 setting so I'm not sure if it's related or not.

i have a 680 evga sc and 8gb ram with i5 2500k stock and running everything ultra with 2x msaa between 55-70 fps

my driver is 320.49 and is working well

Is the CPU parking thing safe? It won't alter any other performance with other programs?

It's unparking your CPUs. And yes it's safe.

It's like if you have doges and you have them leashed up to a post in an open field (parked). Unparking is like letting the doges free to run in majestic tandem sprints as they see fit.

If you have a crazy stupid fast PC and you unpark you might want to put a frame limiter on so it maxes at whatever your refresh rate is so it isn't overworking itself for no reason.

Anyone have a problem with the game not launching?? It happens all the time in battlelog where I click to join a server and it says joining but nothing happens. Sometimes I have to quit out of origin and close the browser and try again. Also Vysnc set to dynamic on RadeonPro caps the fps at 23.

Unparking helped quite a bit. That's nice.

Also, resolution scaling is awesome, but I can't really put it higher than 120%.

At 200% my game is at like 19 FPS.

OK, so just started playing some (campaign first to see how it runs) and it runs great on ultra but some times I enter a room or something and the world hasn't loaded. Like, there's men in there and some objects but no walls or floor etc. Is this a common problem? I'm running a EVGA superclocked GTX 780, 8GB RAM (should be 16GB soon) i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz running from a HDD. Everything is at Ultra or the max it can be. No real issues in framerate yet though I've not had Fraps running. I've just not noticed any dips in frame rate.

Well that's weird.

Up until tonight I was playing BF4 and only had the problems everyone seems to have.

Now I went out to get myself a SSD today, format my old hard drive, reinstall everything with BF4 on the SSD thinking it'd help run smoother.

Well, nope! I get more stuttering than before, and now I get some weird shadows/blackened textures where there was none before.

Did I forget to reinstall something? Drivers for 570 are up to date, DirectX is up to date...does the game just not take kindly to being on a SSD?

My 680 is OC'd, but I did the H60 mod and it never runs over ~53 C. I've also looped Unigine benchmarks without errors.

I know artifacts usually point towards hardware failures, but I'm really hoping it has something do with the software, since I was hoping on not upgrading until Maxwell (plus it wouldn't be the best idea to get a new card now since PS4 is in two weeks).

Hmmmm personally know from my old 670 that unigine valley wasn't as hard on the gpu as unigine heaven. Also Metro Last Light with ssaa or whatever that setting is - is imo a better benchmark and coupled with downsampling will give a more realistic outcome on stability.
Make sure you're running the latest unigine, and check your vram temps if there is a sensor for that - see gpuz.

I agree. I have it at 150% at 1080p/60fps with every setting set to ultra and it looks amazing!

Yup gotta agree. Max with 2xmsaa wasn't cutting it. 125% maxxed, hbao (msaa disabled) looks soooo much cleaner.
2nd 770 arriving this week. Hope to bump it up to 2xmsaa 150% at 1080p

Loads faster and runs just as good if not possibly better on a ssd. Drivers, windows etc up to date? From the monitoring I've done it seems highly reliant on initial round loads to be gpu and ssd reliant. Will chew through some 100% gpu trying to load iirc, cpu not so sure.
Edit: Have os cloned to my raptor 10,000rpm drive. Will see if there are any differences when I get around to it.

Anyone have any recommendation for Nvidia driver? Went with the latest certified, and the latest beta drivers, and both of them give me crazy artifacts. Am I just gonna have to wait for the game to be patched at this point?

That's not normal. Have you tried other games? It may be a sign that you have GPU issues. Latest beta drivers have always worked great for me with NVIDIA.

I have been getting the same thing with my 680 in this game, have never happened in any other game with this overclock. But when I did lower my clock some it stopped happening in multiplayer. Still get it in the SP though, but I'm done with that now.

I have the DCII Top that has a pretty big overclock out of the box, but it's never been a problem before and I didn't get this in the beta.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend installing it on a SSD from what I heard.

Just to show you guys what I mean by blackened textures :

3nz71Ns.jpg

Very visible seams on texture borders, black textures, distinct object popping when I'm flying in a helicopter...the game is suddendly very ugly.

IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!! It wasn't there yesterday! Anything I can think of is up to date already.

Pls halp >_>

Turn down effects to high, maybe disable MSAA. 60fps. Kthxbye.

... If not, you're CPU bound.

you can get 960s safely up to 4ghz. a little more ram couldn't hurt, either.

When in game, press ~ to open the console. Then type those things

Pressing ~ did nothing for me?

Performance update:

i3 3220
GTX460
4GB RAM

1080p @ medium and runs sweet...even at 90 FoV!

Think W8 definitely a major factor since prior to upgrading I had a stuttery 720p on low!

i7-3930k, 16GB DDR RAM, 2 x MSI Lightning GTX680 in Sli, BenQ XL2410T.

Running the game at absolute maximum settings at 1080p/120Hz. Stays at a locked 120FPS for the majority of the time, sometimes dips below but nothing that impacts gameplay.

Running CoD: Ghosts however....I maxed out everything and that shit struggles to maintain a frame rate of 40-55FPS, let alone locked 120FPS. I honestly don't understand why. Shit optimization?

B also opens the console. On my Swedish keyboard the ~ key in games is always the ½ key that is next to 1.

I think I'm done tweaking settings for the moment. Got it to where I'm quite happy. Actually, that's an understatement. I'm pretty blown away by how well this game runs. And I'm getting pretty much equivalent framerates from single-player to multiplayer as well, which is nice.

My setup:

Intel 3570k@3.4ghz(stock)
MSI GTX670 Power Edition OC 2GB(stock)
8GB RAM
Windows 7

My settings:

Texture Quality - Ultra
Texture Filtering - Ultra
Lighting Quality - High
Effects Quality - High
Post Processing Quality - High
Mesh Quality - Ultra
Terrain Quality - Ultra
Terrain Decoration - High
AA - MSAAx2
Antialiasing Post - High
Ambient Occlusion - HBAO

Pretty much everything I turned down, I didn't notice any difference apart from MSAAx4 to MSAAx2. Perhaps more sensitive eyes can tell, but I cant. So they were entirely worthwhile.

1080p. Will occasionally drop to high 50's and rare drops to lower 50's, but averages low to mid 60's.

I really thought I was going to have to overclock my CPU in order to get reasonable performance at decent settings, but its pretty damn impressive as it is.

I'll post this here too...

I think this fixed the crashes for me, i normally never could play 2 full rounds. Now i'm on my 3rd in a row without any problems.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMB4FTqziqw

Try this and first update your Punkbuster.

Edit: Now 6 rounds in and not a single crash/freeze/disconnect.

Normally without port forwarding i couldn't last 2 rounds until disconnected from the server.

Try it guys, for me it worked wonders.

I give up.

Reinstalled the game three times, tried installing it on the regular hard drive as it was before, tried everything but it refuses to be as pretty as before.

For the first time in my life, I'm understanding what consoles enthusiasts says about "All the troubleshooting on PC is a bitch". GG Dice, you made me admit it. >_>

Interesting I'll certainly try this. I noticed one thing, I have a network adaptor and after a couple of rounds I lose the internet for a few moment, back on wireless and seems fine.

Starting to think my PC is liek the little train that could. The BF4 beta ran at about 20FPS for me, on medium. I was convinced it was the end of the line for my PC, but BF4 is running great even on my older hardware. And the CPU unparker has helped even more.

Im now running the game all on Ultra, 1680x1050 w/ 120% rendering, SSAO on, and the worst performance ive gotten since using the cpu unparking is about 30FPS during the start of the 'old town' mission. Even blowing up the dam it hit 40FPS or so. The actual Dam shootout level was 60FPS. Its insane.
Im running an outdated Q6600 and a 560TI 2GB.

Heres my performance, (pre-cpu unparking). Gonna do another video post cpu unparking to try and highlight the difference

Umm is this Core Parking feature only relevant for laptops? o.o I spend the last 20 minutes reading about it and looked in the Windows 7 Resource Monitor only to find out that all my cores seem not parked by default, atleast none of them have the "Parked" label.

Well I don't have the game yet, but here are my specs:

i5 3570k 3.4GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
GTX 650 1GB

I'd be running at 1600 x 900. Anyone here with a similar setup? What kind of performance can I expect? I've got plans for a better GPU as well as an SSD but I still haven't decided on which models to get.

This game (in multiplayer) is NO JOKE. It taxes/stresses components like no other game (IMO). I've run my GPU OCs through all the benchmarks you can think of, and then BF3/BF4 will crash. So if you're OC'd and experiencing crashes, try turning off the OC altogether and see if it goes away. If so, try to slowing increase your OC until you experience crashes again. It will take some time, but it's worthwhile considering you will then have solid performance and no worries of losing your game when you're down to 80 tickets on a 1,000 ticket server lol.

I think this is the right thread for this, but has anyone gotten this horrible flickering? I've tested on many other games and it only happens in BF 4.

So I finally finished downloading and installing BF 4 after deciding to take the plunge, and the first thing I'm greeted with is a rainbow flickering which is making it unplayable. Frame rate is fine, but the flickering is just crazy. My temps aren't getting over 62c and I have Nvidia 331.58 drivers installed. I have 3570k/660/16 gigs of ram. This is the only game I've had any graphical error on since I've built this PC in January. Anyone experience this? it's completely isolated to BF 4.

It's like a strobe light.

Someone might still find it helpful - here's a video comparing many settings from low to ultra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqzpFYHZS0M
So as usual, Ultra is almost completely imperceptible with most settings.

I've heard several people talk about having this. I'm pretty sure I also heard that the issue is resolvable, but you'll have to look around for that as I didn't pay close attention.

680m here - upgraded to Windows 8 and my performance increased by 20%. That's a HUGE deal as it means I never drop below 45 on a mixture of high and ultra at 1080.

I appreciate the assistance, guys. I was very excited to play until I had this issue pop up, hopefully new drivers work, cheers!

Edit: Great news! Everything works fine with no flickering and I'm playing on Ultra right now and it runs pretty well, thank a bunch.

Really considering picking this up, I am certain my system will be able to run it (i5 3570k @ 4.4ghz, HD 7870 GHz edition, 32gb ram) but I keep hearing about crashing/weird game issues, is the game pretty stable for most people now or is it worth waiting until it's fixed?

I was skeptical, but the unpark cores utility worked like magic on my i7 920 @4.2GHz. It's like playing an entirely new game.. perfectly smooth. No crashes yet.

Is it normal for this game to have performance hiccups in which the FPS randomly goes down to the 30s and back to the 70s? I also have these hiccups when I suddenly turn. Normal?
I am running the game on 2 580s, everything on ultra with MSAA off, and FXAA on medium. I also have an old i7 960 @ 3.8 GHz, and 12 GB of ram.

I'm having the same issue, 2 580GTX in SLI. Did you fixed it?

I have the 331.65 drivers. Even If I turn everything to normal, the stutter is still there, so I'm guessing is an SLI issue, not that my cards can't handle it.
