Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

Valkyria Chronicles was a PS3 exclusive game before releasing on PC, so it used PS3 specific APIs.

And of course it means something, from a multiplatform point of view, D3D11 and its shader model adjusts much better to current gen tools and hardware.

There is literally no reason to rebuild a game's renderer for DX11 or above if you aren't going to make use of new features it introduced.

DX9 is much simpler, more supported, the last major version before DirectX started to suffer from Diminishing Returns, and better optimized than any following DirectX versions.

I don't know about other people, but while playing at 4K on a GTX 1060, high SSAO tanks the framerate to the 30s during heavy combat, whereas it maintains a mostly locked 60 when it's off. I didn't bother trying low/medium. I didn't think the effect really did all that much, so I took some screenshots. Screenshotcomparison wasn't working for me for some reason (filesize too big, maybe?), but I've got some imgur shots comparing no SSAO vs high SSAO, and well, the difference is meager at best: http://imgur.com/a/JsJMt

I love the Bayo 2 weapons to death because they all looked so damn cool, especially Kafka, but some of them just weren't very useful - especially Kafka.

I thought so too, then I actually started using it in some challenge and it fucking carried me through it, it's actually pretty dope, but situational.

Does the performance get much worse later on?

I played through the Prologue with everything maxed and 2x MSAA at 4K on my RX 480 @ 1300 MHz with no issues.

Also lmao at that SSAO comparison, looks like I'll be turning it off.

I'm pretty sure this means the "dream" of Bayonetta 3 for the Switch is dead. Good riddance.

Why? This franchise has gotten a lot of extra promotion - smash hype, PC release. Maybe Nintendo will fund it again. Or Sega will publish it solo as a multi-plattform release.

The game using DX9 instead of DX11 may be an indicative that a ONE/PS4 port is not planned, but if it sells good they will surely do as with Valkyria Chronicles.
I dont see how that would prevent a PS4/Xb1 port...We've had games ported from PS3 to PS4...Now that it's on PC, I think it's much easier now to port the PC version over to consoles....Just like the HDRE4 versions and all the rest (5,6) were ported from PC....

That's awesome. :) fingers crossed for Vanquish in the future too.

What's the lowest-effort way to get a Dualshock 4 to work in this game? I saw something about Steam Big Picture support. I just don't want to have to download apps to do it.

Yeah and some people play RE6 like a regular TPS and wonder why they run out of ammo :p

Playing a game 'wrong' doesn't change its core and how it's supposed to be played.

Which is exactly why people that aren't using dodge offset in MGR are playing it wrong.

You literally go into Steam Big Picture mode, go into the controller settings and check "Dual Shock 4 support". Done. (This works with any xinput and dinput pad with Steam nowadays, I think?)

You might need the Steam Beta client though, not sure if they rolled it into the regular one yet. There's honestly no reason not to use the Beta imo.

Bayo1 has motherfucker Jeanne

Bayo2 Jeanne has to be rescued by Bayonetta (Platinum pls)

That alone elevates Bayo1 over Bayo2!

Bayonetta 1 also builds up to its finale a lot better. The final boss in 2 is better from a gameplay perspective but it's nowhere near as epic and the denouement is just underwhelming.

Are people actually pulling a locked 60 at 4K with mid-range cards? My 1060 with everything high except SSAO off still gets drops to low 40s when shit's going crazy with wicked weaves during witch time when lots of enemies are on screen.

Also, PC version with Steam controller config means I can play with the superior Bayo 2 control scheme where L is lock-on.

It would be lot more interesting if we knew if anything is happening with Bayo 2 as playing part 1 only to have part 2 locked to Wii U is going to suck.

Yeah SSAO kills the performance at 4k even on my 1080 sometimes and the effect it's barely noticeable (I couldn't tell on the previous screenshots and on my own tests) so I'm leaving it off for now, at least until they fix the MSAA so we don't need to downsample.

I think it's odd anyway...the Nvidia Control Panel says the game isn't compatible with SSAO at all. Maybe it's something they added for this port, too? Shadows have a much lesser quality on consoles too.

I didn't realize how buff they made afterburner kick in part 2.

I catch nothing in this game with it unless it's already in the air.

Guess I should just use the lock-on launcher :/

EDIT:

Oh, it catches large enemies fine I guess lol

Still kinda wonky tho... the hit box for that move was gigantic in 2.

Shit, I really miss afterburner kick from part 2.

I didn't play this too in depth, but does anyone know a move that's just as godlike in this game as that was lol

Do we have a PC performance thread?

I feel like MSAA isn't really doing anything within the settings and I'm trying to figure out the best possible res to play at.

Shit. I want to play the game with my Dualshock 4 but it's not working.

I tryed using the TocaEdit X360 Controller Emulator like I did with other games, but this time there is no success.

Can anybody play the game with a DS4? How did you do it?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I have the same problem - I don't remember if the original game had SSAO anyway, and I'm not seeing a huge difference with it on or off. Anybody else have similar experiences?

Great someone confirms this, so this does not seem to be a problem with my machine...
SSAO seems to be broken for me performance wise

Did you try 3200x1800?

Nah, I'm playing on a 4K TV (55" LG B6). I ended up going with 1440p because I can't really tell that much of a difference (it's slightly blurrier, but overall jaggies are kept to a minimum), and I'm getting a near locked 60. Much better, imo.

Point blank to enemies, preferably many: 360 Left Stick > Jump > Instant Kick + Hold. Enjoy!
