The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is slated for release next spring and Mr Kutaragi says it promises to usher in a whole new era of entertainment, though observers point to hype like this about the PS2, which never really materialised.

Ken Kutaragi was the engineer at Sony behind the venture. He told Click Online he faced enormous internal resistance to the original PlayStation project: 99% of senior execs were against the idea
"Thankfully our team made a prototype very quickly, and everyone involved was convinced that the project would become a huge success in future.
"We brought the prototypes with us to a presentation of senior executives, and outlined our dream. The then CEO, Mr Oga, gave us the green light so we were thoroughly delighted."
"I am an engineer and I like technology. I want to change the world with technology and I want to change our lives. The best way to realise it is, for us, PlayStation.
Mr Kutaragi would not be drawn directly into commenting on the threat from Redmond, but he does believe that the power of the PlayStation is making PC makers think again.
While the computer itself is evolving significantly, it's also the case that new types of computers, like the PlayStation, are going into millions of homes all around the world.
"Companies working on PCs worry that their markets may be reduced to being simply the office environment. That's why they're making various attempts to approaching the next big market - real-time computing and the home."
"I am really pleased to be occasionally called the father of the PlayStation.
"But my dream, and the dream of all my team, hasn't finished. In fact we haven't achieved even half of what we're going to do.
"We want to lead with the PlayStation 3, and beyond that to the PlayStation 4 within the next decade."

So very false.PS2 is better-looking than DC, but not by all that much, especially the first couple years (and PC was way ahead anyway).
Play the game. The Silent Hill series is incredibly stylish and features some of the best art direction this gen. That screen shot is less than impressive. It has detail, but no emotion, style or anything remotely "wow". but I'm not a techie graphic whore that goes ga ga over technical feats.

trippingmartian said:I would say early adopters of the PS2 got their moneys worth. Just for the sheer number of games you can play on the system.

The press blew things way the hell out of proportion and said many things that just weren't true. The fact that the internet wasn't quite as popular also prevented people from seeing the reality of the situation. I never believed any of that and, in fact, slandered the PS2 quite a bit in favor of the DC. Very foolish of me as it is a great machine. I've learned that acting like someone such as, say, Jeffahn is just moronic and pointless. I enjoy all machines and what they offer.
I feel that the PS2 impressed me more often than any of the other current machines simply because it often went above and beyond what I thought was possible at various times. There was a HUGE ramp up in quality over the years as well. Look back at something like Rumble Racing and then take a look at Burnout Revenge. That's a larger upgrade than most XBOX->X360 games have been.
Grug said:Where is my PS2 Toy Story graphics Ken!?!?!?
dark10x said:So very false.
The PS2 brought about what I'd call "the era high poly models". PC games were poly starved at that time and relied only on textures. The PS2 was throwing around much more complex games with many more effects at 60 fps. It took the PC some time to catch up...
BigBoss said:You should ask MS that question since they were the ones claiming Toy Story quality graphics, not Sony.

Mr Gump said:"Toy story" graphics encompass both the models, textures etc aswell as the animation, and in that case no game this generation would come remotely close on any conceivably measurable scale.
