Added a front pic, and yeah the chin is more dense, I always had that problem, but I think it can work if I trim the chin and let the sides grow more.
It's an experiment but I'd like to wear it for a while.
Thanks.

Yeah, definitely give it more time.

This is me!

A very classy beard

1 month down, 11 more to go in my quest to grow an epic ginger beard in 2015
One month!? You have managed to grow that awesomeness in only one month?!

After eleven months I am expecting you to look like this (I am certain that the tattoos will just grow over you once the beard is long enough) :

Or then you start to lose height and become Gimli.

Haha nah actually it's been growing in since November. One month into the year is what I meant, cuz I'm taking this shit through December. I better be able to braid my beard like that dammit lol

Hahah, ok, cotcha.

Also yes, you better. I am looking forward to that as well. :p

Does anyone else get really self-conscious when out eating? There's a new Burger place opened locally and I've been asked out on a date there but I just know it won't be a pretty sight when I'm eating.

I regualry trim my tache down and wax it so it's not over my lips or in the corner of my mouth but food still ends up in it. It's not a great amount and it's easily wiped off but I just feel like I'm being constantly watched and judged.

Never get any food in my mustache, just in the beard. Sometimes my friends wont tell me and I just keep eating. Wont happen too often now that my beard and mustache are only 6mm.

There is a guy that comes into my work every once in a while and he has the longest beard/hair I have ever seen on anyone. His beard/hair aren't in a full braid, but in sections and they both are below his waist.

The worst part about shaving off a beard is that you notice all of the food and drink which would otherwise have just ended up in your beard. I am constantly having liquid pour down my chin and my neck after a shave since usually whatever junk drink I'm drinking just settles in my beard.

It is a bit longer at the bottom now, this was taken a little bit ago. Hello beard GAF!

edit: Bah, can't get the pic to post. I will find a way... there we go!

I know the feel, I can no longer eat cheeseburgers or chicken wings in public anymore

With The Order 1886 hype and whatnot, I've decided to grow some facial hair. What say you, BeardGAF? Yay or nay?

Curled the 'stache for the photo. :P
This is the first pic of me on the internetz, I'm ugly as sin ;_; will probably remove after a while.

Cool stache, cool beard, not ugly at all. Most definedly yay.

And this is coming from a straight Guy. :)

You need to shave along a clean line on the top and bottom to look professional, and you'll have to use your judgment to find where that is. I only take just enough off the top of the cheeks to maintain a reasonably straight line, and then round off the bottom where my jaw meets my neck, tapering up to the base of my ear/corner of my jaw.

Serious question because I know jack shit about beards. Do guys with long/full beards shampoo or condition it? Does doing that actually make a difference since most beard is coarse? Conditioner makes my hair extremely silky/smooth, must be good for a beard too!

I definitely like what you did to your 'stache. Looking super cool! Definitely keep it! :D

And you are gorgeous looking lad and this comes from a lady who generally drools this thread.

did some trimming, trying to keep it in check.

idk. do y'all ever think about shaving your beards??
Damn. You look like Mr. Badass!

I don't know what I was really expecting, but you exceeded all of my possible expectations none the less.

Never shave it off. I have had mine for near a decade now. I have trimmed, but never shaved it all off.
Yeah. I know people like this as well. For example I haven't never in my life seen my father without full beard. He have had facial hair since he was like 16-year-old.

I have nighmares where my beard is gone and I wakeup in a panic and touch my face and its still there. I let out a sigh of relief and go back to sleep. So no.
It is good that you are planning to keep it. Even little angels would cry if you would get rid of that. Totally sweet beard.

on Sunday I'm finally paying a barber for a proper beard trim. I'll post pics when I'm out. Hopefully he'll get it looking balanced .

Thanks Sadetar ;)

I just wish my goddamn mustache connected. I hate having to keep it buzzed down, makes me look Amish or something.

No other choice though. It's not like I'm gonna shave my face or something.

How expensive that kind of thing generally is? And we want comparison pics! Before and after shots you know. :D

And talking about trimming I should actually get my hair checked and cut a bit. I am very lazy with it even though it isn't even that big of a deal and some nice students will trim and layer it for 16 euros / 18 dollars.

Thanks Sadetar ;)
Oh you are very welcome!

How come I vaguely remember you oiling your body for shirtless selfies... did those ever see the light? ...just innocently asking... ;)

A proper beard trim is around $8US where I live, less than half of the cost of a full haircut. But to loop in with your second point, I personally think both hair and beards need similar maintenance schedules, but I know that may not be everyone's style. You can go full hobo and just let your whole head and face get unruly, but that's never a good look (unless you're a wizard, shaman, or recently rescued castaway.)

How long should I let my beard grow before shaping it BeardGaf?

So like my previous thought there, I'd recommend keeping some kind of shape from the beginning, although knowing what you want the end result to be before you try a style is key. Just like a haircut, waiting until it's overgrown and then trying to shape it will just make you look sloppy in the meantime. Trim your beard early into a mini version of what you want, and keep up with it as it grows in. Avoid looking like a vagrant...

Thanks! I'm only two weeks in so I guess I'll let it grow out a little more before shaping it. My first time growing a beard so I'll probably make a mess of shaping it. Maybe I should let my barber do it next time I get a haircut? I'm not sure.

This is what I'm thinking of doing. I've been letting it grow for some time now (about 7 weeks, but mine isn't growing terribly fast or I've hit the limit of the natural length it will grow to) and it's about time I started tidying it up.

But as I don't really know what to do, I'm tempted to find a good barber and speak to them first.

Oh it isn't that expensive at all. I have a general idea that in here it is more than general haircut since only couple places do it.

...Ouch. I am quite often 6-8 months without any kind of haircut. Then again I have long hair so I always tell to myself that I can get away with it and that nobody really even notices. :p

yeah prices can depend on the place. Theres a place here called the Art of Shaving that is suppose to specialize in facial hair care and they charge 30 bucks for a damn beard trim

So my beard looks much more tamed after sleeping on it. Stray hairs are more or less none existent, should I avoid combing or Washing my beard every couple days?

This is me after two weeks:

I just trimmed it though, but I think I trimmed it too much. I used a number 4 guard on my trimmer. I haven't really grown a beard before, so I don't quite know how to.

I generally cut the neck about two fingers worth down from the Adam's apple. I try to trim the hair that's about to touch my upper lip because I find that pretty gross. In terms of when it gets thick, I find it difficult to handle the itch because parts of my hair grow in different directions. Any advice on this?

I ultimately just want a fuller beard, but clean.

That is a lot. Hopefully they are worth the money... Like I mentioned, in here very few places actually even offer it so they can charge quite much.

It's time to clean her up a bit. Getting pretty scraggly lol.
You just must to send a picture after trimming it a bit.

Nice sharp cut and you will look ridiculously hot. ;)

Ended up costing me $75 after tip ($15 dollar tip because he was a cool dude and it was excellent service)....

After:

whole thing took about 45 minutes. Nice hot towel action, straight razor to clean up the back of my neck, he talked me through how to keep my beard trim on my own and the best products to clean my hair and beard with. JP Kempt in San Francisco.
