-Sleeping with a beard can be irritating
-Hate waking up and beard goes 1 way cause of the way I slept

Its either take a shower then and straighten it out or go through the day with a 1-sided beard.

Contemplating on shaving it but have weak hair genetics so need the beard to have something on my head :/

Also putting on beard oil and combing it can be a chore as well

You people with weak growth, I will post a pic shortly that will give you faith from someone that takes three months before I consider myself as having a beard.

If I can't shower I will wash it with a natural soap to get it to a point I can brush/oil/comb.

I ended up just trimming away some of the strays with the clipper and no gate. almost just said fuck it and got rid of the whole thing. good looking beards guys keep it up.

oh and wenis if you shave your beard I'll have you banned.

Thanks for the vow of confidence. I think I will give it a try. I am starting a job in June, so I think this is a good (and possibly only) time to start. It gives me almost two months.

Do it! Worst case, after two months, shave it. Beat case? You join the ranks of 24/7/365 beard GAF.

I just realized I forgot a 6 month update. Here it is at 6.5 months. Trimming be damned ('cept that mustache so I can eat, ya dig?).

Epic beard King

I want to get there again but the in between is so fuzzy I always end up trimming it. plus huge dark beards look a lot better than my huge red beard.

I'll post a close up later. My beard has a lot of red. It is like 1/2 brown, 1/8 grey, 1/4 red, and 1/8 black. The girl that cuts my hair says it is "beautiful" which isn't what I'm going for but I guess that's a compliment.

I've just started the third week of having this beard or whatever it is.

It's thickest under my chin, and my cheeks aren't quite so whiskery anymore. Individual hairs are more closely grouped together, but nothing that could pass for a beard.

It's a little wild, but I don't think it's really thick enough (save for under my chin) to use any oils.

I've trained myself to sleep mostly on my back (it's certainly how I fall asleep now), but I'm a bit of a fidget when I'm in bed so I don't always wake up that way. Often my beard has an almost angular shape when I get out of bed that I just can't recreate myself. :p

Mate mine has about this ratio of colour too. I haven't trimmed or cut it in 4 months now so its pretty bushy. One side is greyer than the other.

What adjective are you striving for?

I also have a bunch of red and white beard hairs it's super weird

Edit: Just did some research and reddish beard hairs seem to be pretty common.

Yup. I know a few people who aren't obviously redheads but their beard comes out full on ginger. Mine'a a mixture of dark brown, light brown and a little grey/white mixed in for good measure.

Super jealous of people with jet black, even though it wouldn't suit me at all.

I've been starting to grow s beard and I'm wondering if guys find it more attractive on other men than women do because I hear guys talk about beards all the time but rarely hear women mention it

Why don't you just shave the side you sleep on and go with a nice neat half beard?

Some do, some don't. Gets more polarising the longer it gets, I find.

I love having mine though, not sure anyone's objections would be enough for me to shed it. Probably not.

It's going to depend on who you ask, and what your beard looks like (tastes differ for all kinds of reasons). Only one way to find out! If you're happy with it initially I see no reason not to keep it, but if you find it has an adverse affect then you can just get rid. There's a good chance you'll get loads of feedback as you grow though - most people can't help but comment on it.

I will concede however that once you get to the bigger beards, it's more likely to be men that say FUCK YEAH LOOK AT THAT AWESOME BEARD. But again, that's not to say women don't exist that feel the same way.

I mean it really depends on the woman. Having said that, keep whatever you have neat, clean and well groomed. If that's makes some women uninterested so be it. It's your hair/face.

Hey guys, thinking of investing in a trimmer, since I don't like my face clean-shaven, and am too cheap/lazy to keep buying razor blades. Any recommendations? I'm looking for something long lasting and preferably can get me down to close stubble.

The "depends on the woman" part is very true. My wife thinks it looks weird when guys perfectly line-up their neck or cheeks - I'm quite thankful for her outlook, because it allows me to go without doing anything except for keeping my mustache trimmed so I can eat and kiss without interference. I can just go full-on grizzly.

That's one good looking beard.

Thanks beardbro.

I caved into the itch and shaved after almost 3 full weeks. It also looked terrible - I don't think I'm destined to have a beard.

The itch stopped at 3 weeks for me so i'm glad that's over. I don't think i'm going to be shaving anymore since i'm actually starting to look my age.

Yup. I know a few people who aren't obviously redheads but their beard comes out full on ginger.

This is why I never go full beard, it starts out darkish, then goes light brown, at about a 1cm length it suddenly starts going ginger, aside from the white patches which so far are symmetrical.

My hair is light brown. I end up just trimming it to 2mm and letting it grow to 8mm before trimming again. Never go clean shaven.

Shower, towel dry, oil, comb. Never tried blow-drying. Seems excessive, but to be fair, my beard is sometimes a tiny bit damp deeper into it even after towel drying.

Sometimes I'm really rushing in the morning (especially if I'm on dog duty and she takes forever to poop)

But yeah otherwise I like air/towel drying

People I know have tried and recommended blow drying as a way of straightening your beard (temporarily), but I've not tried it myself.

This is my 29 day progress. Some places were growing way faster than the rest so i used a beard trimmer to even everything out.
Pedostache is growing five times slower than everything :(

Edit: I shaved, i look better with stubble.

It's okay, my stupid little mustache has been growing for around a year or so now and it's barely passable now.

But the beard is nice and full.

Finally ordered some beard oil, shampoo, and conditioner. Before it's just been the usual everyday stuff but I'm starting to get some flaking to my beard :/

Thinking about growing a beard because I'm lazy and usually only end up shaving once in a blue moon anyway... and I have some acne scars that I'd like to cover up a bit.
Kinda want to try going for the Riker:

Seems easy enough to maintain. Anything I need to know?

Should I shave my neck area? if so, how far up? I've noticed that some people do and yet others dont. I'm clueless when it comes to beards halp.

Here's my three-month beard. I was completely unaware the pic was being taken, but it shows off the completely random nature of my hair/beard color. Red, blonde, brown and completely fucking white at points.

Been trimming the sides to keep stragglers in check, but it's at a point where I can let it go completely and it'll eventually fill out into the right shape.

I must be some kind of freak. If I don't shave in two months my facial hair is ridiculously long. From my experience, most women like facial hair, but they don't want it to be crazy. For example, inches long. Short and trimmed is the way to go. Nothing nuts.

Great looks, guys.

Pseudo-douchy selfie for the boyfriend at the airport.coming home from NOLA, but it shows the current shape of the face fuzz.

PS- I have a quarter sized total hole in my beard growth on my chin line right side so if you think (like I did) you can't have a good beard, let.it.grow. Hair can solve shit. LOL

Getting through the 'itch' phase is the worst, but once you've been through it the first time it gets easier subsequently.

I made it to substantial beard phase over the winter. Mustache definitely needs to be on point to successfully pull it off. Thankfully mine is. Any holes in the beard itself will grow over usually, give it a while.

Experiment with oils and balms but I feel a good barber is essential. I was decent on my own but the barber changed everything. I'm back to low beard/stubble for the Summer but come September I'm letting it loose. Will be glorious by Xmas.

Oh man, ive just been to the barbers for a hair cut and asked them to trim my beard at the neck line. I had quite a bushy beard and liked the rough unkept look of it. The barber has taken the clippers and shaved it right down so I now have a short, neat tidy beard like wot a footballer would have. I don't like it and I'm thinking of now just shaving the whole thing off. I feel like ive lost some of my power.

If you shave it off it'll just take longer to get back to where you want it to be. Let it grow out again if you liked it that much! I had a similar (not as drastic) experience last week (and with my regular barber who KNOWS that I don't want the length to be touched) and it sucks, but you'll regret it more if you get rid.

Hey guys, so I ran out of my usual stuff and in a pinch picked some of this beard balm. Anyone use stuff like this before? I'm struggling to figure out how much to use at one time.

Having never used it before, I'd say start with a pea size and work up from there until its where you want it. That seems to be a pretty consistent amount among balms.

I did use some balm (not that particular one) when my beard was big and thick and magnificent (snif) but I found it to make it a bit clumpy and greasy so I switched to oil which had a nicer result. I think the balms work well on shorter beards? Not sure. Like the post above I would use a small amount and work up.
