Thanks! I actually have some more recent photos I took right after I had a trim before a wedding the other week:

Having a beard seems to impede the ability to smile.

Looks pretty fucking awesome. And no, it reduces the NEED to smile. The beard smiles for you :)

Been growing mine back out since the beardocaplypse, still not happy with it at the moment, I took a pic about a month ago where it looked okay, I'll see if I can find it.

So I need balm/ wax suggestions. I fucking LOVE my beard. The ladies LOVE my beard. But, its starting to flip under the longer it gets and grow wings. Since I can't find any balm/wax locally where I live, what's good from amazon?

I still have a little bit of oil left that i use every other day already, but I need something for control and a good brush.

Sorry so big! Can't figure out how to change size on mobile imgur.

How come you guys don't get wiry beards? Is it genetic (i.e. I should just give up) or are you using some sort of product? I don't want to look groomed (and I don't want to *have* to groom my beard daily or even once a week), but I also don't want to look like a hobo.
How do you guys stop the crazy itch that you get when trying to grow one?
Mine never itched, not even when it's hot.

You've gotta groom it, or at least use product on it. My beard is naturally insane. Like, every hair has 30 kinks and it's wiry and thick as hell. I use shampoo on it once or twice a week, one for dry scalp with tea tree oils in it to help keep the skin underneath healthy. Every day in the morning out of the shower, I use Honest Amish beard balm on it, which is a leave-in conditioner that gives it a bit of a shine and makes it controllable. Then a brush, and then a combing to get it all going in the right direction and laid down. Once you start the ritual, it's actually rather calming.

My beard still looks closer to homeless than haute couture, but it's better than it was before I started a regimen.

Also as an update on the Yeard: 3 month mark!

It does look super awesome.

And I agree, you don't really need to smile - the beard does everything for you including smiling. That bastard is also very flirtatious. ;)

I am here just to support your claim - at least I totally love your beard! <3

Oh, thanks man. I don't want to give the impression that I'm a nasty hobo, I actually shower every day (sometimes twice a day) but I've been bald since I was 21 and the thought of having to go back to brushing or shampooing every day seems pretty boring to me.

LOL @ Honest Amish though. I got to try that just for the name alone.

I'll post a few pictures tomorrow if I can. I hate taking pics of myself (I feel like a loser when I do it, don't know why) so I'll see if I can find some recent pictures.

Pickman, Echelon, Shaneus & Fonz, you guys have amazing beards. I envy you guys!

Shave the neck, and depending on how hair grows on your face, establish a cheek line. Mine gets super crummy looking on the upper parts of my cheeks below my eyes, so I shave there. It looks clean, but some people have fuller hair throughout their cheeks. Just try it out,

Awww <3

I always kinda knew I'd have a good one. When I'd grown my facial hair out for more than a few days, it was never patchy and always fairly even. May not have been blessed up top, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to make the most of what god gave my face! (The ability to cover most of it up ;) )

This is a great brush for the money.

Very high quality comb, leagues better than the $.99 black plastic combs.

This is a very small mustache comb (just over 2 3/4") It fits well in the watch pocket of your jeans.

I use Grave Before Shave "Bay Rum" scent beard oil and I like it a lot. It is the only beard oil I have used so I can't compare it, but it works well and smells great. I assume their beard balm would work as well.

I bought Firehouse Moustache Wax based on Amazon reviews. It works pretty well, but I have a heavy mustache and it starts to droop after a couple of hours.

I highly recommend watching Youtube videos on how to use Mustache Wax and how to apply Beard Oil. Proper use really does make a difference in the effectiveness of a product.

Thanks, man!

Taking care of a beard is much simpler than hair care.

You should NOT shampoo everyday. Over washing will strip your beard of its natural oils which will make it brittle and more tangled. When you do wash use a high quality shampoo and conditioner (Not Suave or whatever.) I only wash my beard with shampoo once or twice a week at the most. I do rinse with hot water in the shower daily, however. Since I stopped washing everyday my beard lays much straighter (The natural oils weigh it down.)

Brushing/combing and applying oil/balm takes a couple of minutes at the most and is very easy to work into your morning routine. See my post above. It has some great links for beard care.

How do you guys deal with the flakes? I'm assuming its dry skin under my beard but it's so annoying. It's like I have to constantly wash my beard. And it's itchy. Mind you I don't have not used any balm products. But I did order something off Amazon.

Washing it constantly is making it worse. Soap everyday is bad for beard. A very small amount of oil everyday is good for bead. Beard must be fed correctly to stay happy! See my post above.

Welp I've tried and failed.
I left it for 5 weeks or so (didn't keep count of the time) but my right cheek was not filling in at all, not nearly enough hair growth (as in there was no hair growing on much of my right cheek, only at and below my jawline , left side was fine though)

Got used to it by the end (no more discomfort or it feeling out of place to have hair on my face) but it the right side looked bad and it wasn't going to fix itself.

Guess I don't have the genes for it
It's weird that I can't seem to grow a full beard, because other than my back, shoulders and inner arms the rest of my body is really hairy.

Certain hair takes longer to grow in. I am going on 28 and just now am able to grow a some what decent beard. For longest time the hair that connects my mustache to my beard would not fill in.

About to order the KENT comb and the #1 selling beard oil they have on amazon......is there anything else I should order?
Balm or wax? Or will I be good with just the oil?

Balm is basically oil + wax. If you don't need to model your beard, oil should be enough.

Soooo this is still a work in progress but check out my clothing line catering to the Beard lovers out there.... The logo was inspired by the classic Skull and crossbones design. I must say some of my models have some pretty wicked beards! Looking for more models too so if interested shoot me a PM.

Well update to one of your brethren who is laid out in the hospital with a fractured left leg + 4 screwed ankle + fractured tibia....

Been in the hospital since February 18th, on my 7th week in the hospital, still have 5 weeks of recovery then maybe a week or two of rehabilitation

Had a small beard coming off the holidays, but tried to maintain it, but being encased in my body as a prison, hair growth went ten fold

Welp that's me with an extra 1.5 month worth of growth

Sorry to hear that.

Nice growth though!

Oh man, loads of good beards here, got me all jealous. From looking at some of you I can tell I should definitely trim and shape mine more.

Yep, this is certainly one of my favourite threads. I am more or less always drooling in here. :p

No need to worry, yours looks equally awesome! If you want, bit of trimming and shaping wouldn't hurt it though. :p

You are hot as hell, just saying.

Trimmed and tidied up
Very convincing. Love it.

Just did a trim, it was getting quite shaggy.

Haha thanks, Always appreciated :D and yeah I think I might go to my local barber and get it professionally trimmed and shaped next week.

I wish I could grow an awesome beard, but they just don't compliment my facial features well.

T_T

As someone who can't grow a beard for shit*, this thread is equally impressive, envy inducing and de motivating.

*did no shave November a few times to hilarious disastrous results. At it again, about a month or so in, and I've got plenty of time to look scraggly and not care so we'll see what happens with a few months and tidying it up.

Keep at it. Just getting to the point where I think mine looks OK three months in - some of us just need to work at it and have some patience!

I'm about two months in and I feel like my beard is reaching critical mass.

I work in an office so I don't know how much longer I can keep this managable.

I'm 29 and there's so much space that won't fill in that I don't have much faith, but again time is on my side. Nobody to impress, no rush, just being realistic. :P

Okay I need to get this out there..

Im getting sick and tired of everyone asking me why do you have a beard, as if I need to defend my choice.

There was this girl and shes in military police and she said that she'd like to have a drink with me if I'd lose the beard. So I jokingly said that Ill Veto the shaving but would do the drinking. She said "no, I don't do VETO's" to which I replied "I don't take military orders as well as you do apparently". Haven't heard from her since.

Another one : I asked this random woman in the supermarket where I could find the chili paste. She just looks at me and says nothing. So I ask her "excuse me, but why don't you answer? Don't you speak Dutch?" To which she replied " since the attacks at charlie hebdo in paris I dont talk to people with beards anymore".

What the fuck is wrong with people :(

All this sound so very absurd...

Do you happen to look like an agressive hobo terrorist that will steal everyone's money, abuse their wifes and blow up their working places or what is going on?

I personally think that a good looking beard/stubble will generally make men look better than they would be without them so I am totally lost about what is going on with you. Poor thing.

Excuse the link to Instagram (in case the direct embed doesn't work). My daughter has been pestering me to post a selfie (!) and I thought I'd use it as an excuse to reveal my work in progress to beard GAF.

Needs a trim, but I'm scared. D:

That is a great beard. I am envious.

My beard project is a thesis writing one. I started growing when I started writing and the idea is to cut it when I'm done and put between the pages of the book, but I have grown fond of my beard. So I'm conflicted. And I'm almost done writing in a few days.

Personally I do not think I look like a terrorist hobo who's out for peoples money and lives (see my picture on the previous page). And I do not understand why people must make such a big fuss about it.

Something nice though.. I teach at a secondary school and I had parent night a couple of nights ago. One of my students is from India (He and his family are Sikh) and when I was done talking to his mother she said that she appreciated the beard very much! So it's not all doom and gloom I guess ;)

I checked your pic (and realized I have been looking at it earlier also). And yep, I agree that you look not at all threatening and your beard is very neat, professional, clean and nice looking.
And you do look quite handsome I may add.
You are just surrounded with people who don't know any better.
