Someone called me Osama Bin Laden last night. I know I'm brown, but man I'm Native American/Mexican. I don't even have middle eastern features.

Ok, here's mine

Some of you guys have awesome beards.

I am 27 and my issue is that I have too much light hair intermixed with dark hair. So while it is not patchy it looks like it.

Also keep it shorter than most in this thread looks like a couple weeks old rather than a fully fledged beard.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not. Anyone participating in no shave november? I'm doing it this year, and am taking pics as a daily progress report. I'm clean shaven for most of the year, but I can grow a pretty brodacious mane in short order if I let it go.

First-time poster, long-time mini-beard-grower. I tend to shave once a month or so by which time my beard has gotten to around 1/3rd of an inch in length. But... recently I've considered letting it go for a while to see how it looks. So, I need some beard maintenance advice.

1) I shower daily. Do I shampoo my beard daily or just a couple times a week? Do I shampoo it at all?
2) Do I use my conditioner on it and if so should I do that daily?
3) Do I buy a beard oil for after showering to avoid beard dandruff and to keep it softer? If so, is this product reasonable or am I buying snake oil?

Thanks Beard-age.

I certainly will, although it feels like cheating as I haven't shaved (the odd tidying trip to the barber aside) since July.

Don't mind the bad quality and lighting that makes me look way paler than I really am, or the weight vest I'm wearring. Just here to showboat my beard with a picture taken at around 3 am.

Lol anyways, I usually keep it cleaner, but I'm trying to grow it out a bit for now and see how long I can keep it not too wild. The beard on the higher part of the cheeks is usually too scarce so I just shave it off. I'll be letting it grow on the cheeks too, see if it doesn't all come together in a month. If it doesn't I'll just shave it off, but meanwhile I don't hate the look, I'm just more used to a cleaner/shorter beard.

Really jealous of some of GAF's mustaches. There's some really majestic ones in here.

I've been keeping mine pretty close lately:

Damn that's a fine short beard, looks almost painted on.

Dat mustache! Even If I tried for a year, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get one as good as that. What do you use to let it stick like that?

new sheriff of beard county checkin in, shout out to all my split-mustache fam
I hope you wear this hat in public

Because you absolutely should

For some reason I have started to think I should start over. Don't know why just a thought I had. And if I did do it, would there be a difference to making it a close shave or just use my smallest size trimmer.

I am. This is the first time I've gone more than a work week without shaving. 3 weeks in obviously and my beard is 1/3 inch long. Interestingly I have brown hair, but my beard is coming in a darker shade of red. Not sure how common it is.

I don't know what to think of it right now. On one hand, I totally have a baby face - I'm 25 but people would say like I looked like a teenager. With a beard, suddenly I look like a late 20's or early 30's. Two separate women at different times commented that I looked "sophisticated". I don't know how to take that... good, I guess? But then a male coworker said I reminded him of the lucky charms guy. Fuck. He's immature as hell though and possibly just jealous. I wish I had more people I could trust to give an honest opinion.

I would take pics but neogaf is fuckin ruthless. I have low enough self esteem as it is. I think I'll make it through November and then shave it off and try to gauge the reaction.

Beard envy, you can ignore that guy.

And this thread has been pretty supportive of people posting images so I wouldn't worry about posting it in here.

Gafs pretty good when you post pics actually.
I've done a few recently!
Just wear a nice shirt and you'll be fine.

My beard just happened to coincide with Movember, but it's more of a mustache thing here I think.
Fuck just growing a mustache!

Alright beard gaf, how do I fix this shit? Do i let it grow out more, do I trim it, or something else?

This tends to happen a 1-2 hours after I shower then oil/balm and comb/brush, is there a special technique I could try?

EDIT: forgot the picture

Is there supposed to be a picture attached?

Regardless, best answer is usually let it grow as much as you can/want and then trim. Just remember that whatever you do it'll grow back either way. :)

Cant grow beard under my mouth. Any advice how you can start growing beard there?
At all? Mine grows from a tuft just beneath the middle of my lower lip and while it covers a reasonable amount I still have gaps to the side (for some more naturally hairy people it seems to grow right along the line of the lower lip).

This was mine before I foolishly shaved it off in July (I don't normally do that with the tash), it fills out pretty nicely down there but it needs to grow pretty long for the coverage to reach acceptable levels.

Ya, sorry added the pic haha
If you want to shape it to the shape that the rest of the beard is then I'd probably trim it now (make sure you go to someone who knows what they're doing and be *very* specific when you ask for the trim), if you think you might want some extra width then see what happens when you grow it out.

Looks good though. Personally, I'd probably trim those to match (and grow it longer, but that's me).

considering getting my beard professionally trimmed for the first time. any pointers? what is the correct lingo?

or should I just stick with doing it myself and taking my chances?

GAF, I shaved the first week of October and haven't shaved since, so I'm just shy of two months of growth. I haven't trimmed at all. I wash my beard twice a week with regular shampoo while showering and also use conditioner a few times a week. I apply a bit of beard oil after each shower and then comb everything back downwards/into a neutral position. Any styling or maintenance suggestions for me at this point? First time growing my beard. My wife really likes it apparently so it may be here to stay for quite a while.

I'm jealous you have no neck hair. I have more neck hair than the hair on the top of my head.

I'm not naturally hairy, which means my tash isn't as full as I'd like it to be and it doesn't grow fully under my lip (just in a patch, although that gives me good coverage)... but the fact that it keeps itself in check at the neck line makes up for those disappointments. When I go in for a trim he just has a little tidy up.

hitting 4 weeks on monday. she's getting there. I get no hair under my lip minus that lil patch. This is the longest I ever grew it so its kind of exciting. I'm not going to lie. Even with my face pubes I feel different.
Let it grow at least until you notice it in your shadow, and you can feel the wind in it. ^_^

When I shaved mine all off in the summer my shadow looked WRONG.

GAF, my beard is shit. My mustache grows like a 13 year olds, I get practically nothing on my cheeks, and nothing directly under my mouth. It's pretty much all neck and a little on the sides of my mouth.

Awful. I don't think it looks too bad but just the amount of it just sucks. Wish I could grow a thick, full one.

And yeah I know I gotta clean up my neck, getting a haircut soon.
