Ryder and Keaton both signing on has me hopeful, just so long as Depp doesn't weasel his way into it somehow. I wonder if the parents (both sets)will come back as well, at least as cameos.

Uhhh.... I'm pretty unsure of this idea. While I like the original movie, not sure if it needed a sequel.

So long as it's not the Beetlejuice goes to Hawaii script they offered Kevin Smith in the 90's, im okay with this. He talked about it on one of his evening with Dvd's

Super cool. Michael Keaton is becoming A list again... It's so crazy to see :)

I can't imagine this movie without Catherine O Hara for some reason

No reason she shouldn't be in it. Everyone important except the designer guy is still alive.

I would be okay with Tim Burton just producing.

This is going to sound weird, but Keaton is sorta slumming with this. I mean, it's a fun nostalgia project that fans (sorta) want. But he's been in two Oscar winners in consecutive years. I was hoping he would find another good project and win.

When I saw a commercial for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 it got me thinking that taking a significant period of time off could benefit a sequel instead of sacrificing quality to rush a film out while it's at its peak popularity. Are there any successful sequels with massive time off that aren't franchises or reboots?

Mad Max?

its kind of a franchise, but it wasn't super huge originally.

Its not a movie, but the (sort of) anime series Mysterious Cities of Gold got a second season after nearly 30 years.

...just waiting for that Innerspace sequel. :p

Love the first one, but i've given tim burton too many chances. I'll wait for GLOWING reviews before I see it.

And another 90's kid bait going straight into the pyre of unnecessary sequels, reboots and overall nostalgia shitfest

I really, really hope they don't try to explain Beetlejuice. We don't need to know why he's such a crude, freaky and powerful poltergeist, we don't need to know who he was in life, when he lived or how he died, and we definitely don't need to know about the ecology of the Saturnian Sandworm.

Whatever happened to "And they all lived happily ever after" and "I had a great idea, I can have another, completely separate great idea".

Those oscar winners don't exactly pay the bills. This isn't slumming, this is collecting a fat ass cheque.

Hasn't Keaton been wanting to do a Beetlejuice sequel for God knows how many years?

The original Beetlejuice(which I love) is nonsensical as fuck, so this doesn't need a good script to be a good sequel. It just needs good performances, imaginative visuals and a good soundtrack like the first.
I think Burton can at least do that.

Good point, I'm not hating. Usually you see actors trying to revive these projects when their career is on a downturn, his is the opposite. But he would get a nice payday, and maybe this is something he wanted to do for awhile. I've just been hoping he gets that Oscar soon.

What? How did this happen and I didn't know about it? Loved that show when I was a kid, best thing on tv.

Beetlejuice 2 and a Ghostbuster remake, what more could you wish for?

kill me

For all that it's worth, Beetlejuice 2 at least features the same main actors and the same director, and it is a real sequel. Not really similar to the Ghostbusters case.

Dude, Keaton has stated that his absolute FAVORITE role of all time was Beetlejuice. Someone I knew met him on the street once and talked to him about how much she loved the movie and the guy started crying. This is not slumming it for him this is returning to a character he's loved playing more than any other he's done.

Exactly.

No way, they actually pulled it off?! Never believed it was going to actually happen, I mean we've heard stories for decades now.

Thankfully won't be Beetlejuice in Hawaii.

I have always disliked the notion that a new movie will tarnish the memories of the first one. Is the movie has bad reviews, just don't watch it. I remember everyone outraged abut the TMNT movies and I didn't watched them since I am not obliglated to.
