This is going to sound weird, but Keaton is sorta slumming with this. I mean, it's a fun nostalgia project that fans (sorta) want. But he's been in two Oscar winners in consecutive years. I was hoping he would find another good project and win.

When I saw a commercial for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 it got me thinking that taking a significant period of time off could benefit a sequel instead of sacrificing quality to rush a film out while it's at its peak popularity. The original Beetlejuice(which I love) is nonsensical as fuck, so this doesn't need a good script to be a good sequel. It just needs good performances, imaginative visuals and a good soundtrack like the first.
I think Burton can at least do that.

Good point, I'm not hating. Usually you see actors trying to revive these projects when their career is on a downturn, his is the opposite. But he would get a nice payday, and maybe this is something he wanted to do for awhile. I've just been hoping he gets that Oscar soon.

For all that it's worth, Beetlejuice 2 at least features the same main actors and the same director, and it is a real sequel. Not really similar to the Ghostbusters case.

Dude, Keaton has stated that his absolute FAVORITE role of all time was Beetlejuice. Someone I knew met him on the street once and talked to him about how much she loved the movie and the guy started crying. This is not slumming it for him this is returning to a character he's loved playing more than any other he's done.
