Ben Carson: "Gravity, where did it come from?”

where did gravity come from? legit question.
even if all you can do is point me to an article or video id appreciate it

His audience is comprised of simple minded people that have been encouraged to speak their minds and feel authoritative about things they have shown no interest in throughout their lives and have little understanding of. Ben Carson having a public platform as a Presidential candidate is the result of Republicans convincing the ignorant that their opinion matters, and that their ignorance is the virtue that will save the country from liberals.

How is it possible for a neurosurgeon to have such anti-science views?

Remind me to never go under his knife.

Not his field.

You could be the world's most experienced, renowned, and wise geologist; but you could still have as much knowledge of astrophysics or biology as the next regular person. No reason for him to know any more unless he was curious in those areas.

AFAIK we don't actually know where gravity comes from. Its one of the four fundamental forces which means that we don't know how to explain where they come from. Or at least not yet. We thought the same thing about atoms at some point, and now we're at quarks.

"Fucking magnets, how do they work?" - Dr. Ben Carson
Even Jesse Pinkman is a better scientist than this clown.

I'm not any of those things and I know what he's asking. Having a field of study does not excuse the ignorance on display here.

You know, for a neurosurgeon, he would have to have a brain, no?

This isn't the first time he's tried to show the public he may be a human without one. His comments about homosexual conversion in prisons is also hilariously inept.

Sure, but plenty of other regular people don't, which is why they have their views. You don't have to be a biologist or astrophysicist to understand that evolution and gravity are true natural phenomena with theories to explain them, but not everyone will believe, let alone understand, those topics when they are misinformed or brought up believing otherwise.

I think there's actually a negative correlation in my experience. If you're absolutely focusing on one field to the level that you become one of the world's best in it, then you're probably not going to have as much time for others, and may ultimately take major hits in that regard.
I think I was much better politically informed back in high school as compared to now in college because all my focus in terms of learning is on what I have to do rather than that I should also be doing, you know?

You said not his field. We aren't talking about "regular people". We are talking about a Yale grad.

"I'm not a scientist, but how about these ideas instead? You too can make up your own bullshit if you want, but might I suggest my bullshit- I'm a neurosurgeon."

You said not his field. We aren't talking about "regular people". We are talking about a Yale grad.

That's exactly what I am saying. Because it's not his field, his knowledge wouldn't be any different than regular people. He's a Yale grad in Psychology, not in anything else. In topics outside of Psychology, he wouldn't be expected to know any more than others.

Doctor Oz is an exceptional heart surgeon, but that doesn't stop him slinging his bullshit. An intelligent mind is uniquely capable of self-delusion when it turns on itself.

I'm more than sure he is being ignorant to pander to the average American.

These subjects are middle school level science. You have to pass both general science course and more to even become a neurosurgeon, which is nothing to cough at.

And he went to fucking Yale.

He's good at believing his own lies.

You don't have to believe in what you learned in those classes to pass them. You just have to remember the material. My Micro Biology Prof told us at the start of class that he was a Christian and believe God created us but he learned these alternate theories of creation too.

The Big Bang was the start of time, space and everything else, gravity too.

I wanna point out that while haha what an idiot is great.

This man isn't just some bumbling conservative halfwit.

He is running for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. And people SUPPORT HIM.

That more than anything is an indictment of our society.

What a scary world we live in where we give people like this a platform

What a scary thought that the smartest and most powerful nation in the world, one that put a man on the moon, has someone like this actually running for President and leader of the country and has a large contingent of the population actually wanting to vote for him. The guy is a neurosurgeon and yet dumb as shit when it comes to science topics.

Okay... so, um, we don't actually know. Objects with mass produce a gravitational pull proportional to that mass, but we don't actually have any idea why, or even the mechanism by which that pull works. It's easily the least understood of the four fundamental forces.

Halfwits have been presidents before. Trump is currently polling higher than him too.

I appreciate it, but it's hardly something that needs to be pointed out anymore.

FINALLY! I have been waiting FOREVER for somebody to avatar quote me! Nobody gets the expression.

lol happy to help!

Yeah I mean the question is there and there are theories out there. But the question isn't asked for any other purpose than to prove science wrong about something. Carson would have been the first to deny that the earth is round if that was still the cool thing to do.

This is Terrence Howard levels of thundering stupidity

Edit: full quote
And later in his three-minute response, he said, “Just the way the Earth rotates on its axis, how far away it is from the sun. These are all very complex things. Gravity, where did it come from?”
I don't think he was asking that in disbelief, but more in the sense of "universe is complicated"

Again I know it and I'm regular people. You're not making sense.

After listening to the video the thread title is misleading as hell. I'm far away from supporting this guy but the context makes it sound like he was saying it more as a "Things are complicated" way.

He did ignore that guys question though and just returned to normal GOP talking points that the crowd cheered for. Also I really hate "micro-evolution" what the hell is that :/

Microevolution is genetic variation that develops over a short period of time, relative to the scale of these things anyway.
Any evolution older than 6000 years is a lie yo

Universe man, that's some heavy shit.

Maybe he should have pondered these questions in University by smoking some weed.

i don't understand how a neurosurgeon can't believe in evolution when there is brain tumor evolution happening to his very patients

Holy crap, some people really are that ignorant i guess; I doubt they were trolling.

As for Carson... he's still in my top 3 picks, but that doesn't mean I have to be proud of the fact. : / I'm not feeling this election.

It is famous troll Ken M

He can also see evolution happening at a rapid pace by looking at antibiotic resistance in common bacteria that fill the wards of every hospital.
