career over. it was a nice couple of years.

nice. So he just pulled a Jason Williams on top of it all too, huh?

You'd think these idiots would learn by now.

I swear, all you assholes making jokes about this deserve to be hit by a car and banned from this place.

This is very serious and this guy's life could be effectively ruined. How about showing a little respect by either saying some kind words about how we hope he gets better, or just STFU.

how about not being such a woman?

O whatever **** face. Regardless of Ben's lack of a helmet, he still deserves enough respect to not verbally beat him down after such an accident.

Severely injured both knees, you say? Damn shame Pennsylvania repealled their long standing knee pad law.

TOOTHLESS BEN ROETHLISBERGER IS IN A HOSPITAL READING GAF AND CRYING DURING REHAB YOU SOULLESS BASTARDS OH THE HUMANITY HE IS A HERO!

**** that... it's his own goddamned fault for not wearing a helmet. HE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE DRIVING A MOTORCYCLE. NFL teams have clauses in contracts to avoid shit like this happening to their franchise/star players. It sucks that he's all ****ed up but he doesn't have anyone to blame but himself. I have NO pity for him. He should have been wearing a helmet at the LEAST. I'd be extremely pissed off if I was the Steelers owner at this juncture.

Okay, but I'm not retarded enough to be a million dollar quarterback on a motorcycle without a helmet!

TOOTHLESS BEN, GENTLE WONDER.

Seriously, that's what it boils down to. How can he be so stupid?

If I found out my mom was riding around on a motorcylce without a helmet, I'd tell her she better stop or I wouldn't even come to her funeral. But I don't have to worry about that because my mom's not a ****ing moron.

Do you send angry letters to the Darwin awards or something? Or are you just an overreacting Pittsburgh fan?

typical pxleyes, talking about "caring for humanity" then "haha, you're mom's fuxxored." WHICH WAY IS IT????

shit that is terrible if his career is over. i wouldn't jump to any conclusions until the autorities/doctors have had more time to examine him. what people have to understand is that athletes aren't like us. they have obligations to their employer who is paying them more in a year than most of us will make in a lifetime. if i were a professional athlete, i would not be riding motorcycles, jumping out of airplanes, hanging out in clubs with my posse late at night, or anything else that stupid.

and to the guy who is bitching about everyone saying "i told you so!" get a grip dude. NO ONE is saying "YESSSS!!! gentle ben is going to die lets celebrate!" i think everyone wants him to pull through this and be ok, but at the sametime you do have to criticize ben's decision to ride a motorcycle and to do so WITHOUT A HELMET! whether he is ok or not ok that was a ****ing stupid decision on his part, especially considering his stature and what he does for a living.

Right now, George W. Bush is looking a lot smarter than Toothless Ben!

The teeth's no problem, he can just call up that white rapper in the ad and get an ICY GRILL of his own.

People are not necessarilly happy he hurt himself, but they ARE lambasting him for making a poor, poor choice by riding a motorcycle and on top of that not wearing a helmet. There is a difference. Unfortunately, the way of the world is to make fun of people who make stupid choices, and he made a very stupid choice.

EDIT: I said exactly what FMT did. I swear I did not copy you!

WHO'S ICY GRILL IS THIS?
- Flava Flav
- Paul Wall
- Ben Roethlisberger

shantyman's thinking it, though. :D (I kid, I kid...)

Seriously, though, I don't see how some people think these two thoughts are mutually incompatible:

1) It is a terrible shame that Roethlisberger is injured like this, and it will be a loss to football in general if his career ends here.
2) Anyone who rides a motorbike without due care and attention (and that includes wearing a helmet, Ben) is responsible for the consequences to themselves, and is also - on some level - an idiot.

pxleyes said:

So you would happily acknowledge the irony, and even revel in it, if someone who was laughing at the fact big Ben hurt himself riding without a helmet had a family member suffer the same fate. But laughing at the irony in the fact that Big Ben hurt himself for riding without a helmet on, despite being told numerous times it wasn't safe and ignoring them and even going so far as going on national TV and laughing at the people criticizing him for it is "inhumane"?

Sounds to me like you're just a big hypocrite.

So dumb for not wearing a helmet. All of these insults are crazy, though.

I don't feel bad for Ben as much as I do the rest of the fans here, and what this could possibly mean for our team. It's not that I don't care about Ben as an individual, but not wearing a helmet is just stupid. I can only feel bad for him to an extent. Just because PA state law doesn't force you to wear a helmet doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do.

"Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said. "

This is just unbelievable. His knees can't take any more damage. I honestly do wonder if he'll be able to play again. At least he isn't dead.

Ben said:
"He talked about being a risktaker and I'm not really a risktaker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."
Ooook, Ben. :rolleyes

It sounds cold, but I'm really not trying to imply it that way... but at least we did win the Super Bowl. Not only for our sake, but for the team's, and Ben's. I didn't expect us to be the New England Patriots II or a repeat of the 70's Steelers, but this really rubs it in, and if Ben can't play the same or at all... chances of winning another Super Bowl in the next few years will be very hard. I wasn't expecting another dynasty, but at least one more win this decade could have (and hopefully still is) possible.

I have a confession. This is a 100% true story.

I was watching the Reds game on Saturday night, and they lost. This of course put me in a bad moood. The game was followed by a 30 minute interview show with Big Ben, which annoyed me even more. I said to everyone in the room "I hope he gets in a motorcycle accident!" And then it happened!

Karma is going to get me. :(

Wow, thats horrible. I cant imagine how bad this feels for Steeler fans. I was pretty young but I still remember when Jerome Brown died in that car accident.

no offense but there is no way in **** you guys were winning another superbowl even with gentle ben at the helm

What the hell. Nobody knows or can know for sure, I never said it was definitely happening but the Steelers are a good team. Even if Chris Hope and Bettis are gone.

What the hell.

just don't think you guys could win another superbowl even with your team intact (which it wasn't going to be anyways). all the pieces fell into place for you in last years playoffs. if palmer doesn't get hurt, or the patriots beat the broncos, or the colts gameplan for blitzing or even the chiefs beating the cowboys instead of choking you guys don't win it. i realize this is a lot of if's, which is my point: steelers were extemely fortunate last year and i dont feel they are a superbowl calibur team this year

Lets see him shrug off tacklers now! Best news about this?!?!?

AFC North wide open now!

A healthy Ben would have won at least 3 Superbowls playing for the Steelers. The head injuries sound like they will make him fugly but not really effect his football. If he ****ed up his knees badly it is probably over.

This is the most disgusting thread I've ever seen at GAF. Yuo all should be ****ing ashamed of yourselves, you're all terrible people. Yes, Ben was too cocky, yes, he had to pay the price. But look what the **** happened to him, thats ****ing serious as hell. His career is probably over now, the team is losing a huge star, and you ****ers sit here and laugh about it. I just can't ****ing believe you guys.

p.s. does anyone remember what ended jay williams career? was it that his knees were all ****ed or something else?

I'm not wishing anything bad on the guy, I hope he makes a full recovery. We bag on each others' favorite teams and players alot in the NFL threads but I like Ben, hes one of the most fun QBs to watch each week.

But with that said, that doesn't mean I or anyone else can't pull his moron card. For a normal person I fail to see the allure of having riding motorcycles; but for a pro-athelete, I don't care if this was Charlie Freakin batch in full protective gear from head to foot, much less Big Ben in jeans and a T-Shirt its ****in idiotic. You're gambling EVERYTHING. Come on, especially when you're a football player and contracts aren't garunteed, you just can't take that risk. If Ben is out a year, two years, or god forbid has seen his career come to an end, this his a tremendous blow to the team, and the other 50+ guys that bust their ass every week. Its not fair, and its not worth it just for a cheap thrill.

What makes it worst is that people have WARNED him about riding without a helmet, on national TV no less. And you can't forget that one of the major stories last offseason was K2 ending his season because of a Bike accident, a guy thats in his friggin division.
