Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary Clinton for president

The better scenario would be that he uses his support to boost Clinton by energizing his base in Clinton's favor.

There were toxic aspects to Bernie's campaign, but he's still a useful asset.

This is pretty much every campaign ever. Almost without exception.

I look forward to seeing Sanders campaign in the fall. He would be good in places like Colorado, Nevada, Iowa and New Hampshire, and he could help the downballot too. Having the Obamas, Bidens, Clintons and Warren on the trail too will be great.

Every sane person will come out to actively support Clinton now that we're heading into full campaign mode. The idea of a Trump presidency scares everyone, GOPsters included.

So, basically, 'we have to stop trump at all costs, and Hillary is obviously better than he is'.

I understand the sentiment Bern, and obviously we've known this is the path you would take, as you admitted when you first announced your campaign.

But a lot of people's eyes were opened by you who's eyes were once closed. So its probably going to be very hard for you to turn your back on them and what you once talked about: how money in politics influences policy, and how the government at large is broken because of that, including but not limited to poster children like Hillary and Bill Clinton, and the rest of the two party system.

That hasn't changed just because you lost and Hillary won, the struggle on the ground has to continue regardless.

An agenda likely to be pushed forward by Hillary, who can appoint liberal Justices and thus get cases back in the court which can push things back in the people's direction.

But, no no, let me not stop you from aggrandizing the man and cutting off your nose and shit.

Yeah you don't want to go down the road of comparing accomplishments. He'd be demolished and I don't want to clean up the viscera and whatnot.

Why would I be bitter? We won. He's out, and he's nobody. It's not a cheap shot to correctly point out that he's irrelevant and that he's unlikely to really contribute anything legislatively in the future, just like the rest of his career. It appears cheap because others supported him and wanted him to win. They still don't like people saying things about their man. I, on the other hand, simply don't care enough about their feelings on the subject. I'm going to voice mine the way I choose. Lest we forget that the campaign for the final months largely composed of conspiracy theories and praying Hillary gets indicted for e-mails, much like his worst supporters.

He endorsed her, and now he can move back into the shadows. How can it be wrong to be happy about that?

This is true, but the way the American electoral system works, any change has to come through either the Democrats or the Republicans. Pushing money reform through the Republicans is much more difficult than pushing it through the Democrats. So you need to push it from inside the Democratic Party; and so you need a healthy Democratic party to do that. It's all very good managing to push changes in the party platform if you then don't help the party get elected.

Pretty apt analogy.

I'm very happy to see the two main leftist political figures of this campaign finally shake hands so their can focus on defeating Trump. I hope Sanders' supporters haven't spent too much time and energy hating Clinton for so long now that they decide to abstain or vote Trump come November.

On behalf of the rest of the world (except Russia and NK I guess), please don't do something stupid America.

I always supported Bernie because I liked Bernie, it had nothing to do with Clinton. I was always resigned to vote for whoever the nominee would be for the Dems. But it was Bernie that got me excited enough to register with the Democratic party.

And unsurprisingly I am seeing conspiracy shit on facebook about threats against his family and selling out to someone who is his exact opposite in every way.

Hooray!

Finally, jumped over to Hillgawd a month or two ago, not happy but it's necessary and now Bernie can move on to the next step.
Then they were never about Bernie in the first place.

I started out liking Bernie's ideas more initially, but quickly noticed he was tone deaf of issues that were important to minorities beyond socioeconomics. Hillary's campaign had their shit together for the most part, and she continues to acknowledge implicit bias and bigotry as a major issue in America.

Either way I would've supported either candidate. When you're black and fully understand what's at stake with the supreme court and other initiatives, you can't afford to play chicken with your voting decisions.
Gaf garbage that doesn't hold up with young minorities/the current social justice movements in America.

voting/polling sure said otherwise

He said "young" which polling backs up. And re:social justice movement -- anecdotal, but at the Dallas rally (before shooting) one of the speakers was a Bernie delegate and the crowd exploded in cheers when she mentioned it. I was honestly surprised. GAF is really fringe when it comes to the levels of Bernie hate.

This is such a fucking weird thing to read. Nothing about Bernie's message was particularly new, novel or inspiring. What about his calls about undue influence in politics resonated while all the others didn't?

My suspicions are that unlike most others, he pointed at financial institutions as easy targets to blame for all the worlds ills

I'm not sure I'd hold a BLM rally up as a prime example of a random distribution of Americans either.

But Bernie's done himself and the country a good service by not saying anything for the last month or so.

Just as a warning to people trying to engage with Inuhanyou.

Yes, i went there. If a person is going to throw their sword down to support someone like Hillary over the facts, who is the very nature of the beast called money in politics, i will say that principles are not something that person has.

Unless said person is coming mentally clean into the voting season thinking that everyone is just playing fair and there's no such thing as influencing factors like special interest money, or corporate favors, or media narratives based on who owns what and has stakes in who, i will say that voting for Hillary or the GOP right now is essentially perpetuating a system of governance that turns ever closer towards fascism and oligarchy.

I. am. not. kidding.

So....yeah.

inversely, the internet really makes you think bernie is more electable than he was

but more importantly, he was replying to this:

which is completely true, and not only has it be discussed to death other places than here, the polling & minority turnout across the board showed it to be more than "GAF garbage", whether folks wanna hear that or not

Umm, I wasn't. I was holding it up as an example of a social justice movement.

Right, but he didn't object to the patterns of the larger electorate, so you're not disproving anything he said -- he specifically objected to "young minorities/the current social justice movements in America" and he's right. Polls showed the gap disappeared with young minorities and I think there's a big overlap with social justice movements and Bernie supporters -- that's where the anti-establishment angle really helps. GAF's image of Bernie supporters largely came from the /r/s4p spam they'd constantly post over here. Just look at this thread.

edit: and I'll back up my "GAF is really fringe when it comes to the levels of Bernie hate." claim beyond those limited demographics since you mocked it.

After Hillary had won California and was the presumptive nominee, when GAF was in full rage mode because he hadn't dropped out, most dems were cool with him staying in. That included all races, all age groups, and all education levels. Most dems didn't vote for him, but most dems didn't have this crazy hate that GAF had.

it was less so with younger minorities, you're not wrong - but if we're assuming that poll was accurate, again, it showed nothing at the actual voting polls. you're right that i should've instead pointed out how useless a metric he was focusing on, in the bigger picture. the initial point about tone-deafness and not winning the black/other minority vote was the point.

still, though: you just got done saying social justice movements - which have much of their presence online - made a huge part of bernie's base, something we'd both agree on. is it really cherry-picking if quotes/images are taken from some of the largest sites/sources of said supporters, then?

edit: and I'll back up my "GAF is really fringe when it comes to the levels of Bernie hate." claim beyond those limited demographics.

while i'm reluctant to indulge the notion of GAF as a monolithic entity, yeah you're dead-on here about the weird frenzy a number of folks had about bernie staying in later, even after stump & other mods pointed out why it shouldn'tve been an issue

What's your point? Same goes for the other dude. I'm pretty sure his name was only on three bills that ended up becoming law.

I was only talking about Hillary, no one else. My point is that criticizing any candidate for that reason is fucking stupid.

It's time for Bernie bros and Hilladies to unite against Trumpelthinskin

Will he actively campaign for her I wonder

Good guy Bernie. I mean he should have dropped out after March 15th, and shouldn't have dragged her name through the mud for the last four months ruining her credibility and causing her unfavorable numbers to stay over 50%, but hey it's better late than never.

Can't let a petty thing like the thing you wanted to happen happen get in the way of continuing to talk shit.

I voted for bernie and even donated a few bucks but I never read/subscribed to /r/s4p and I had to stop reading /r/politics. I think reddit was a particular slice of his supporters, but not necessarily representative of his base. But when finding posts to paste over here, they naturally go looking for the most zany posts -- that will obviously skew things even further. It helped fuel the hate. It's just not a productive thing to do. We need unity.

After the Fart-In and near-riots at the caucuses, how can you say that?

There was a lot of anger in Bernie supporters everywhere I looked: real life doscussions, my friend's FB, twitter and IG, youtube videos, reddit, even here on GAF with some of the more extreme zealots.

Excluding the gross fart in (did it end up happening?) there's a lot to be angry about, so I'm not sure what's the point.
There's a difference between being angry and being crazy. Those Internet trolls are just internet trolls. The people that went to his rallies are the real base, and I bet you couldn't find any of that stupidity in those.

Near riot is a bit of a stretch but things do get heated up

That would be a great narrative to assume that just because he endorsed her, he, or rather the movement he took advantage of is now irrelevant. But you know the progressive movement doesn't end just because he lost.

Bern has said since he started that he'd endorse and support the Democratic Nominee to stop the GOP. And while i can sympathize to a certain extent, and don't think he is a sellout in the least for it, the fact that the movement for actual change and not kissing up to establishment politicians who operate in the revolving door has to continue irrespective of who wins or loses the democratic nomination or becomes President

Most definitely. It is outstanding.

I would be surprised if any except one of the Bernie supporters I know in real life even posts in Reddit. The majority are just young, passionate people that care about economic and racial justice. Young (under 45) is the most obvious trait that they share.
