Bernie Sanders Univision interview.

I find interesting that people find Hillary is more experienced yet this board was very Pro-Obama in 2008.

Obama displayed an understanding of policy and an intellectual curiosity that Sanders has not. Obama built an incredibly effective campaign team, he won by always being over prepared. Everything about his 2008 campaign exuded competence and confidence.

And I preferred Obama over Clinton back then.

For me, it's not about experience per se: It's about intelectual curiosity.

probably because obama actually seemed interested in learning the things he didn't know about, and did so over the course of his campaign

This is something I can get behind. Sanders hiring abilities might not be what's needed to go against a political machine as Hillary, that can change her rethoric freely in order to get more votes and actually succeeding at it.
.

Good job Ignoring his point. You argued that Sander's doesn't need to know the answer to some questions because he can surround himself with people who have the ability to do so. it's then pointed out that his campaign is indicative of his capacity to do so, and that's he's done a bad job at staffing his campaign as evidenced by his lack of prep for this interview, (or the fact that he's going to lose in general)

Your response? Doesn't even acknowledge the point.

The ignorance of some Bernie supporters is really starting to show. The guy calls himself a socialist, but doesn't even follow the politics of nations that are perceived and/or are self-described as socialist? What's he going to do when his socialist label is discussed and the failures of venezuela and cuba are thrown out there? Not be able to defend himself because he doesn't know? I could go on but christ, it'd be one hell of a rant.

Sorry, a president is expected to know about one of the fucking major regions of earth (latin america). Jesus fucking christ.

Foreign policy is the one thing that Presidents explicitly has power over Congress and the Supreme Court. It's the one thing that presidents have direct control over with some limited interference from Congress. If he doesn't understand his role as president, then he doesn't have the qualifications as one.

People will believe what they want to believe or what they favor above others. This goes for Hillary supporters, Bernie supporters, and Trump supporters. Pretty sad imo.

He recently gave an interview with the San Fransisco Chronicle and they asked him some of the same questions that the NY Daily News did. He still couldn't answer them
http://www.sfgate.com/opinion/saund...as-no-strategy-for-his-war-on-big-7872811.php

His complete lack of strategy and planning on policy was also present in an interview he gave with The Buffalo News back in April, again this was after the NY Daily News interview
http://politicsnow.buffalonews.com/...o-how-his-economic-plan-would-affect-buffalo/

I honestly think that he doesn't care about anything but his stump speech.

God can California just be this week? I'm so tired of dragging this shit out, let him get bodied, end this farce, let his followers move on to the last stage of grief and lets all move on so he can be his Ron Paul footnote in history.

Desperation at it's core. No. Kicking while down. Pathetic.

Guy was asking almost exclusively about Latin America to a ridiculous degree. Bernie rightfully basically told him to fuck off. I'm running for president of the United States. That's what this interview is about. Can you ask me more about that and not about other countries please? Yeah? Okay.

It's ridiculous seeing these 'interview bombs' being used against Sanders. Ever single one has been blatantly disingenuous garbage used to spin misleading headlines and rile up stupid people.

Yes. Because he's a reporter for Univision, a Latin American TV and News network.

What did you expect a Univision Interview to be about? Questions about banks and free college?

Do you even know what Univison is?

No shit. He started on immigration (very relevant) and soon began questioning exclusively about latin American political matters. Bernie openly said he'd rather not talk about that, and the guy still kept asking questions about it. "I'm not well informed enough on this to answer you" is a completely honest and understandable response.

EDIT: Right wing sites are even using this shit. "See! Bernie can't explain why socialism has failed! Socialism is bad! See guys? He can't explain it!". Come on. Pathetic.

It's too bad that foreign policy is one of the areas under a president's purview that they have almost exclusive powers for their own agenda. Making questions on any foreign policy stance very relevant to someone running for president.

Yes, if he was being interviewed on Fox news.

He was being interviewed on a Latin station about Latin countries, no shit he was asked questions and expected to know. The interviewer was rightly sticking with these questions because, surprise surprise, Latin America is right next to the US and represents a massive voter and demographic base within the US.

This isn't like asking him about Kyrgyzstani trade agreements. This is shit he should know if he agreed to do an interview for Univision. Bernie should have been prepared to answer those questions because of the avenue through which this interview was conducted. It's on him, not the interviewer.

This speaks overwhelmingly to the point that people continue to try and make. That Bernie isn't interested in doing anything but repeating his party line over and over and over again.

And the Ron Paul tactic stops working once people see that there is nothing deeper than that.

What do you expect from a station that caters to Latinos, not just the generic umbrella of Hispanics, but specifically Latin American immigrants. Especially when the interview is framed not long from the California primary. A state with one of the largest demographics of Latinos in the nation.

Moreover he was asked about an opinion of a country he himself had touted about before due to their socialist history. Why it failed and what he thought on it. It's not out of left field. Our neighbors aren't going into political/economic turmoil in a void. They're not far from our doorstep.

Selling immigrants from Latin America on why his brand of socialism won't fail like the ones in Latin America seems very relevant.

And hello a lot of Latino people who watch Univision have family in the countries. I mean you wouldn't do a Bloomberg interview and expect not to talk about money issues

He should be is the point. I don't know anything when you are running for president is not the answer.

Univision (Spanish pronunciation: [uniβiˈsjon]) is an American Spanish language broadcast television network that is owned by Univision Communications. The network's programming is aimed at Latino Americans and includes telenovelas and other drama series, sports, sitcoms, reality and variety series, news programming, and imported Spanish-language feature films. It has the largest audience of any Spanish-language television network in the world, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Oh cielos, me pregunto, por que sera?

Do you know most LatinAmerican countries also get Univision locally, right? So is not only directed to Latino Parlantes en US but in all of the American continent?

I think most people here hate Bernie and excuse the things that happened in 2008 like Hillary not bowing out until the convention and Obama's lack of experience.

Most posters seem to try to find reasons for their support for Hillary while trying to justify a contradictory stance from 2008.

The truth is people like Hillary to the point where has become the type of fanboyism that seen on the gaming side.

Like I'm assuming they didn't just schedule this interview like 4 hours before he did it.

He should have had days, if not weeks, to prep for this. The fact that he refused to move from his stump speech is pretty damn telling of how little he gives a shit about doing anything but rattling the saber as long as he can at this point.

For fucks sake man it's like agreeing to do the interview in spanish then when you get there going "Oh but I can only say one sentence".

"I'd rather talk about the issues that face latin Americans in the United States" is essentially what Sanders responded.

He wanted to speak to the issues facing Latin-American people residing in the United States. When asked about the countries they came from, he declined a response citing a lack of information as his excuse.

If you think this is some terrible, disqualifying response, I can only hope this primary wraps up ASAP so you can snap the fuck out of it.

Hillary was a lot closer and the race was a whole closer. Sanders wishes he was as close to Hillary as Hillary was to Obama right now.

You quote someone who gave a answer to why Bernie is not the same as Obama and all you can post is a long winded post calling Hillary Supporters fanboys.

The irony is so rich considering this primary and how people have acted.

You continue to miss the point here.

Approximately 90% of current Clinton supporters on this forum campaigned for or supported Obama in 2008 (to the point that most of the people who've been here that long were attacking her for the same shit Sanders is doing now).

You're not making as good an argument as you think you are.

Hillary kept it competitive till late May/early June.

Bernie was done after Super Tuesday.

This isn't a hard concept to understand here.

He wanted to go in to Univision and appeal to Hispanic voters. Many of the Hispanics in CA are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, generation immigrants. Immigrants who have fled dictators and socialist regimes. So why was he not ready to make the distinction between those regimes and his brand of socialism?

It seems really easy to expect that question.

And he's coming to Fresno and Visalia CA, plenty of Hispanic/Latino people here. I wonder if anyone will ask him about Venezuela then.

Dude, if Bernie went on an interview with a Chinese language newspapers, I would expect his team to prep him about US-China relation questions.

I think when your entire campaign has been advocating an economic policy revolution it's a fair question to ask about times where the viewers have seen similar rhetoric leading to situations where once-functioning nations are now rationing food.

It's not a campaign-ending disaster, but Sanders is taking an L on this one. Just own it, get better, and move on.

Bernie supporters.

Your candidate lost. The system is not broken. He got less votes because people like Hillary more. There is no revolution. There is no saving grace. Momentum does not exist. He's not going to "save" things.

He lost. It's over. Get over it.

I want to extend a warm welcome to you as clearly you have been asleep this whole time. Apparently your truism IS a hard thing to understand.

Once a candidate gets a 100 point lead in primaries, historically, it's a herculean task to come back from.

That was pretty much cemented on Super Tuesday

"Stop defending your candidate of choice because he can't win."

Yes?

He lost. There is nothing to defend he lost. There is nothing more to gain. He's not going to "shift the party left" he's not going to storm the house. He's not fueling any change.

He's just an old man from Vermont that can't accept that he lost with some grace and dignity at this point.

That was the point he was making. I think.

And guess what? Many of these American Latinos have close connections to their country of origins. Many still have families living there and actually live there themselves, either to vacation, school, for work or all three. Sometimes, they even send money to their loved ones in those countries. What happens in there directly affect their lives here in the USA.

"I was ready to talk about Dunkin donuts, but then they asked about Krispy Kreme and milk and it was downhill from there."

FOH. He should prepare better. There was no gotcha.
Then again, it doesn't matter in the long run.
