Berserk 2016 Anime |OT| Prelude to the CGI Boat

I don't think anyone is calling Miura a hack here, I don't think I've ever heard that leveled in his direction. However doesn't mean he can write and manage a show and even then we have no clue how much involvement he has with the show. The Musou game coming out could very well be terrible as well and he's working on that too.
I was just pointing out that comment was hyperbole & a blanket statement. You can't say the people who made it are "hacks" without including everyone who's involved with the project. There is talented people working on it.
Do I wish it was made by Madhouse? Yes, but I still like it & I don't think it is made by hacks.

I think the thing that makes me so angry about this 2016 anime is that there's no real good music. I really miss the iconic music such as guts theme, murder and etc. That being said, I did enjoy episode 7 though I can't stand that baby noise from casca. Yea I know she reverted to that infancy after the eclipse but I don't believe she should have a baby sound effect. I don't believe a voice can just change like that. At least have an adult voice and make the infant noises sound reasonable.

The original show is really not animated that well with very limited animation even though I still love it. It features basic panning over stills & the scenes that actually do have animation there's not actually that much going on. The only reason I would have not thought it was greatly animated is because I re-watched it recently. I thought it was the most awesome thing ever when I first watched it in 1999-2000 but it was nostalgia that made me think the animation was actually that great. It really did not age well and the animation is not close to the best animated shows from that time.

Please. I'm watching the 1997 Berserk anime for the first time right now, and it has aged like fine wine. BD quality really shows off its art to best advantage. Disparaging comments about its animation are misguided - it's hardly some slideshow fest, and when it does use stills for action or other purposes, they're almost always stylish looking stills, with copious use of Dezaki postcards. I'll take stylish stills over painfully awkward animation any day.

Almost frame for frame.

I sure love it when an anime directly copies manga panels but makes them look worse.

Ironically some major figures on this Berserk anime are ex-Madhouse people: director Shin Itagaki directed Devil May Cry there, and character designer Hisashi Abe worked on numerous Madhouse shows including Devil May Cry and Wolverine until the mass exodus of Madhouse talent after the studio's purchase by NTV.

But it is an adult voicing Casca? It's the voice actress that did her in the movies.

Right I should have clarified better. The voice actor should use her normal adult voice and create the infant sounds instead of changing her voice to match an infant and then make the infant sounds. I have a mentally handicapped neighbor who can't speak at all except gibberish. He's still a grown man and uses his normal voice to speak that gibberish. I know it's nitpicking but I absolutely cringed when she made those noises.

NTV.

There's a blu ray release of the '97 anime? Would definitely like to purchase that.

I knew that & it is why I wouldn't say everyone involved with this project are hacks. I like Shin Itagaki's work. I just said madhouse because that is what a lot of people equate with high quality animation.
Also I like the animation from the first Berserk too (it is one of my favorite anime), even though at times it looks like a motion comic (I did say I wished they would make motion comic of it), but it certainly was not the best from that time. I'm at heart a cel animation fan and I wish they still used it more, but it's just not cost-efficient which is a shame.

What are the chances the 90's anime Blu-Ray gets a western release? Who even has the rights? I know that the CGI Berserk movies were just re-released here by Viz in one complete package..

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Again we don't know how much Miura worked on the show aside from doing some scriptwork. For all we know he might have just walked into the office, punched his agent in the throat and kicked the directors in the balls before walking out in a huff.

Does anyone in their right mind think Miura wrote a scene where an Apostle chews Guts for 3 minutes while talks about meat? He probably pitched some stuff and outlined the story (which he was credited from my understanding, that's it. Not script).

Miura brought in a redhot brand of the sacrifice and started branding everyone at the studio.

In the chewing scene at 10:46 seconds you can see Guts is keeping the demons mouth open with his other foot to keep him from chewing it off. It's a fast moving scene and I can see where people can miss it.
Also here is another article about Mirura's involvement with episode 3. He wrote the plot for the episode.

That scene is still terrible and out of character for Guts. He's not one to let an apostle prattle on.

Yeah I agree that it is not that good. I thought episode 3 was the worst one. There was too much patch work in those first few episodes. It is following the manga much better now.

I have not missed that. If you continue to watch the scene, you will see that foot disappears where it should be, yet it's pretty clear the apostle keeps chewing his right one while discoursing about meat.

And as I said he probably outlined the story. That's exactly what's in there. He came up with the plot. In the episode he is only credited under story, not script.

Makes since that the studio would need to pad the episode to fill the 25 minute ep.

Sorry I put script in my first comment. The comment was just to prove Mirura's involvement with the project. Also if you keep watching the demon it is distracted and runs towards the picture at that point I don't believe he was trying to bite his leg off because of being distracted and thinking of his love for that lady. A little later in the same scene you can see that Guts was prying at the demon's mouth with both feet again. I agree it was a sloppy scene. Anyway I made my point that not everyone involved with this project are "hacks" because saying that would mean that Mirura is a hack, which was why I made the Initial post. Can we just drop it. You are distorting the meaning of my post which I don't think you read it clearly. You are just focusing on the words "he wrote the script", which I'm sorry I made the mistake. Or you can keep going on about it but I'm done with the topic.

Forgot to add this when I saw you asking for a motion comic. I'd kill for one as good as this AMV. Then again this is probably the best Berserk AMV out there. Spoiler warning but everything is out of context and coming so quick that I don't think its that bad.

Agreed it would be awesome if they did entire manga like this & also have the voice actors do the dialogue. I wonder if it would be real expensive to produce?

I'm fairly sure if Berserk actually got a digital version for the Manga in English the series would explode in popularity. Easy access for a reasonable price could transform the manga's identity in the West overnight.
I agree. Also I think if Berserk had a cheaper omnibus manga it would help, especially if it was digital. $370 for people new to the manga would be a tough pill to swallow.

this is my first time watching/reading anything Berserk. just finished episode 4, so I'm way behind, but.... I like it.

This really is an adaptation for people who think Berserk is just badass fights and blood and tits

that's mostly what I'm liking about it

Is any of this intelligible for someone watching a Berserk related property for the first time? If I didn't know the story, I'd be beyond lost as to what the fuck is going on right now.

Guts is a dude with a dark heart, one hand, and a big sword. Some little fairy joined him on his journey cuz why not. There's a group of knights after them. Guts has to kill some apostles to break a curse or get revenge on a thing or something. There's a blacksmith with some kids, and then some girl who's been turned dumb for some reason who ran away. And now there's some insane religious leader, I guess the leader of the aforementioned knights, who's fucking everyone's shit up. EZ STUFF

Pretty much.

Let's be honest, the conviction arc doesn't have much beyond "Guts is quite flustered" after the existential brotherhood of Golden Age and finding morality in the darkness of Lost Children.

If you go back to the show/movies after you're done, you will experience the best "prequel" in any medium ever.

This synopsis is missing so much context...those kids aren't even the blacksmiths kids. The girl is someone she adopted and Rickert met Godo the same time Guts did. And Casca wasn't up "turned dumb." She wishes what happened to her was something that simple.

What's sad is how far off you are with your description and only continues to going to show why this series is doing such a disservice to the manga and story overall. I'm glad you like it but you'd be doing yourself a favor and going back after this show and catching up on the manga or at least the prior movies. You've literally missed a good third of the story and so many major events that make all this make sense. Its like trying to jump into the Wire at season 3 without watching the previous 2 seasons.

This arc is more about setting up the bigger elements to come and introducing and expanding on the side characters around Guts. He doesn't do much growing but the world and everyone around him does.

that's the show I'm watching, and I like it! fuck the story. there's so many other anime i like for story. Berserk I like because it's cool.
I honestly have NO intentions to go back. YOU ( the collective you) don't like this show because it's not living up to what YOU wanted it to. it's not as good as the old one or whatever. NOT RELEVANT

I didn't think they were the blacksmith's kids. there would have been a mother if the show was trying to portray that. it was made pretty clear Rickert met Godo the same time Guts did (I did think Rickert was a lady tho). I still don't get what happened to Casca, but I'm behind, I'm sure it'll be explained. I just watched the first episode where she was mentioned.

If you like Berserk so much why don't you want to see more of it by watching the movies or the older series? That is like watching the Star Wars prequel movies without watching the original trilogy and when someone asks if you would like to watch them you're like,"Naw I'm good, I already saw Darth Vadar at his prime! He killed some children, it was bad ass". I mean don't you want to see Guts doing more bad ass stuff? Its not like it starts with this anime, he's basically doing that kind of thing the entire story.

The show will probably never go into what happened to Casca cause the show operates under the assumption the the people that are watching this already knows what the fuck is going on because they've read the manga.

Great news for the fans of the series! An announcement of the Berserk 2016 DVD boxsets scheduled to release in Japan on 2 sets. Set 1 & 2 will come out on 10/28/2016 & 12/21/16. On April 2, 2017 there is a stage event be held outside Tokyo. It will feature the seiyū along with 9mm Parabellum Bullet.
Will they announce the continuation of the anime?? I'm so excited!

Episode 7's later half was pretty good, I'm actually excited for episode 8. Episode 6 reminds me of low budget episodes before big fights in some shounen anime, where battle episodes suck all the season's budget and it really shows. For the orgy scenes, they really should have just traced over the manga and did pig image panning scene instead of trying to animate it.

Holly shit at the camera movement during the spanking scene, how old is the director?!

Yeah those scenes of her and Guts together really bring out just how dark she is. Pisses me off that they're doing this.

The original anime was far from perfect, but at least it got the feel right in a lot of ways and characters actually looked correct.

And music/tone was pretty perfect. Adore the '97 series.

.

This is such a strange mentality to have. I love this show but I REFUSE to see the beginning! It's like starting ASOIAF from A Storm of Swords, loving it, but refusing to read the first two books because other people say they're better. I dunno, but a lot of the story in this arc that's being covered rests on the viewer already knowing quite a lot - also if you're disinterested in the story there's still loads of cool stuff that happened earlier, in fact it looked better because the animation wasn't arse and chips. Obviously do what you want, but it's still pretty perplexing!

One of the better episodes. Really liked how they did the Guts vs. Serpico fight, and also liked the bit where Guts was grabbing Isidro.

Can't wait for shit to go down next episode.
