emma pollock out of the delgados. one of the most amazing live acts i've seen, incidentally, and i go to a lot of shows. i'm totally smitten with her, and not in the leering, objectifying way that this generally happens. she scrunches up her face when she sings, as if with effort, but produces this perfectly effortless, perfectly limpid voice, which none of their recordings have really captured. it's sublime.

I don't know about best but I'll write down some of my current favorites.

Jennifer Charles - I don't care for Elysian Fields but Lovage is godly. Nothing beats her half panting "you fucking piece of shit..., fuck me" on Sex (I'm A).

Mirah - Pretty vocals, intelligent songwriting, she's cute in a "could actually be my girlfriend" kind of way. I'm a little smitten.

Other than that, "In The Backseat" is my favorite Arcade Fire song so I have to add Regine Chassagne.
