Too many good games to choose a definitive. XCOM2, Rez, Vagrant Story, Elden Ring, Zelda OoT , CoD4 MP, Metroid Prime, Bioshock. Out of those, Zelda was the only game I genuinely did not want to end...Just another few dungeons, just a few more bosses...Think I turned clinically depressed when I completed it.

After hours trying to compile a top 100 I basically came to the conclusion that it's Sekiro. The game just does so many different things so well and pushed me to a level of combat focus I've never experienced with another game. Elden Ring and The Witcher 3 were 2nd and 3rd.

WoW Vanilla was my first MMO and Im old enough I got to play it right in its prime. I was in college and had nothing but time.

Everything was so new to everyone, there really was a sense of discovery. Playing on a PVP server was so much fun.

WoW Vanilla through - Burning Crusade, man Ive been chasing that high in gaming ever since.

Doom Eternal
You?
My take on that is- there is no best game ever, best we can do is to "appoint" current king in specific genre, like for example in survival/action horror atm its re9 but even then for best game of 2026 it has at least 6 very legit competitors: crimson desert, wolverine, fh6, new 007, pragmata and last but defo not least gta6(maybe gets delayed to 2027 but for now it has official date of nov 19th).

Personally i love too many games and too many genres to ever chose 1 ultimate best game, how can i even decide, was it ff7 i completed 3 times(once fully with everything maxed, all secret quests, bosses, items etc) or was it ff10 with over 500h of playtime, or maybe WoW i played solid few years(quit only few weeks before panda's xpack), or maybe diablo2 which i loved, but then how do u even count it, does lod expack count, or d2r, or its mods? or project diablo 2 mod?
Maybe og gran turismo that looked "photorealistic" to our eyes back in the 90s, or crazy content packed its succesor- gt2- who doesnt remember those mitsubishi gto twin turbo or suzuki escudo twin peaks versions? :messenger_smiling_hearts: But is it fair to not chose its younger more handsome brother gt3 which was crazy jump and trully showed off ps2 power?

Or is it one of elder scrolls entries, then its deathmatch between morrowind, oblivion and skyrim which all were totally revolutionary for their time, as was witcher 3 which i love and returned to it many times? Cp2077? Or maybe something totally retro like tekken 3 from og psx, which back in the days we had organised actual local tournaments for? Or maybe i should dig even deeper to first mortal kombat, to play that i had to risk getting beaten up by local thugs since first proper original arcade model in my smalltown was put in questionable pub/bar which was frequently visited by all kinds of carrier criminals? (yes, me and my teenage buddies risked it all anyways :P )

Again, too hard to chose, i still skipped at least 50 if not 100+ other beloved games here coz noticed my post turned into wall of text already, i love my fav games like parents love their children :messenger_sunglasses:

Yakuza 2 on PS2.

The Kiwami remake's fantastic too, obviously, but the original is more focused. In some places it's actually got better art, and it's just got a very different feel, in part because of the fixed camera but also different art direction. It's also got some interesting stuff that didn't make it into the remake, like the minigame where Kiryu is a host, which wasn't thaat great, but it's got some fun parts, and the sidestory with the origin story for Kamurocho Lullaby, and the part with the tower in Osaka. Also the combat was a massive step up from Yakuza 1, it's still really fun to play. I think everybody who's a fan of the series should play the original Yakuza 2 at some point too.

Crimson Desert . . . it was just revealed that playing the top 20 rated games of all time is also some of the systems in the game.

Depending on my mood, it could be any one of these...

Resident Evil 4 (the OG and not the remake although the remake is fantastic)

Super Mario World

Silent Hill 2 (again, the OG and not the remake although the remake is fantastic)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Mega Man 3

Super Mario Bros 3

Doom and Doom 2 (oh fuck it, add Doom 64 as well)

Bejeweled 3

Tetris

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
