Best game ever

Did you edit the explosion size to 99, too?

Such a classic.

I'm currently replaying it (remaster on PS5) and it's just so good. The perfect level design and that blend of sci-fi and dark horror fantasy is just *chef kiss*

One level you're taking out dudes with guns and attack dogs, the next it's medieval knights and lovecraftian horrors.

If this series gets a reboot, I'm hoping we go back to the horror style of the original, rather than the sci-fi sequels.

Anyway, I can't pick one game. From the top of my head it would be down to 3.

Medieval 2: Total War
Bloodborne
Mass Effect 2 (with the DLC)

100% on this hill.

One of the very few games as a total package was worth every penny of my 69.99 (steel book in CAD) from that time.
Full fledged campaign, with local and online co-op w/8-10 hours run time, added replayability with addition of skulls/game modifiers.
Robust multiplayer w/ several maps and future DLC content - various game modes and support for local and network play- inculding local splitscreen to online multiplayer
Multiplayer with cosmetic unlocks - no MTX
Full fledged theatre mode across campaign and multiplayer - w/ server browser like interface to see full clips from entire multiplayer or campaign sessions
Full fledged map editor/maker in Forge mode- leading to many game modes that are staples of the franchise today - Griffball, firefight (early iterations)
At the time of its release- banging visual fidelity (minus character faces lool - cant win everywhere)

Honestly- not a single game i have purchased since then, including other Halo titles have ever felt as good to play as a completely out of the box package. Gaming after 2007 imo, began a downward trend.

Simon the Sorcerer 2 or Day of the Tentacle
If only there was an "indie" developer out there that could bring back the old days of point and click adventures like the Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full throttle etc....that being said I was slowly making my way through the first part of Simon the Sorcerer but it hasn't really "connected" with me, and I heard that in the first game if you miss obtaining a vital item then you are pretty much done for in completing the game and you can't track back? So I am eager to check out the sequel to see how that was like...as I have played all the noteable LucasArts adventures, I most recently tried "The Dig" which was an absolute joke of a game in a bad way, and is overrated.....

Link to The Past

The first two post are the worst two post.

My pick too

There's no words how playing this game when I was a kid was special. I am not English native either so it was one of the few SNES games or games in general that had a French version. Finally understanding a grand adventure and one of the GOAT, it has a special place in my heart.

Fun thread. For me the best game ever is Mass Effect 1. I first started playing it in 2010 and I haven't stopped playing it since. I'm always replaying it.

If I try to be objective and put aside my fandom I'd say the following games are probably in the conversation:

Super Mario World
Super Mario Brothers 3
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Metal Gear Solid
Final Fantasy VII
Chrono Trigger
Halo

Ocarina of Time and Chrono Trigger were really special for me..

Only played it once when it first came out but I thought Dragon Quest XI was a perfect game
Super Metroid
Castlevania SotN
Xenogears - a flawed masterpiece
E33 - damn I feel like people aren't talking about it anymore lol

There's alot of games that I think of are some of the pinnacles of gaming but the 5 above are my "Chefs Kiss" and succeeded in the aim of what they set out to accomplish

What do you like about ME1 over the other 2 in the trilogy?
I think part of it is just the mystery of ME1. Everything is so new and alien (no pun intended). You're introduced to this world and it's presented in a way that makes it feel like it existed long before I played the game and will continue to exist long after. Plus I had never played a WRPG before and the freedom to approach the story was new to me. I loved it. I also loved the uncharted worlds and Mako exploration (there are dozens of us!!!). It really added to the vastness of the world and the lore. I also played it at a time in my life when I needed a game like that. There magic in ME1 for me that's hard to replicate because it goes beyond the game itself.
